Ever search for a past car and regret?

Ever wonder what has happened to a girl you used to go out with...? I find it's the opposite phenomenon, though -- when you come across one and she looks like she's been in the demo derby, you feel a little bit better for having dodged that bullet. Had this happen just last month. Went to a...

Just a little memory, maybe a confession.

Tangent to your tangent, my grandfather had a body shop in the '40s. When he had the concrete poured, he ran a wire through it, then when it dried, he epoxied a quarter to the floor by the door, had the other end connected to a Model T spark coil on a 6V battery with a doorbell button. When...

    Would you use this?

That stuff's $16 per regular grease-gun tube. Looks like a grease for electric motor bearings and similar stuff, all kinds of uses, but I'd keep it away from wheel bearings and really high-force bearings, like loader or excavator pivots. Something like that you could probably bring to a...

European A-body owners: where are you?

"Over here" that's a tiny car. I towed a Ford 9N tractor locally last fall with my '21 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I didn't like it much. I usually tow with my '02 Dodge 3/4-Ton 5.9L van or my '90 GMC 3/4-Ton 6.2L diesel pickup (out of service because something gnawed the fuel return lines)...

Now you sound like my kid. Absolutely incapable with his hands. I tried many times to get him to do something practical, but no go. So now he's got a good job, makes a ton of money, and has nothing at all to do with cars, which suits him just fine. Not to sound mean, but, considering all...

    People suck

If I may add one more, perhaps psychoanalytic, point: In my experience, this degree of frustration and all-or-nothing thinking points to an unconscious perfectionist mindset. "If it's not perfect, I don't want it." This way of looking at things can act like a straightjacket [bonus psych...

Never sell anything that's broken. Fix it up first, then re-decide whether you still want it. Maybe you do and maybe you don't, but if you fix it first, you'll know for sure. And you're right. You can't have anything nice. Neither can I. Sooner or later, BAM! It's just the way it works...

But the question is where did he get them? If he raised that species of domestic sheep, then all is well, but if he didn't and there is any chance that they are from a wild species, watch out. The horror stories are real. If they are from a wild species, and they are legal, they will have a...

Sad day when you cannot even give away mopar parts, off to the crap yard.

They already are. Ponder: When most of use started down this greasy, rusty, disreputable road, it was probably about 40-60 years ago. So, if I pick 50 years ago, that's 1975. The last Model Ts were 47 years old then. How old is your car? The one I'm playing with now is 61 years old...

What are you folks using for a high outout alternator in your hotrods?

Clearly you didn't see this thread. 60A, straight-up, in addition to everything else in the car. At least when it's hot out. Actually looks interesting. If there's a spot to put the condenser under the rear of the car, you could put all of the components in the trunk and route cold air...

Restarting my French Plymouth Duster 318/904

Interesting how much these things can vary. Over here, there is a Federal component to emissions regulation, so any car of OBD-II age or later has to pass some kind of test. In NYC, the car has to be driven on rollers with constant monitoring by a camera connected 24 hours a day to the...

    Brakes locking up

$9.50 for the pair plus $3 shipping seems fair for those. By the time you search and find an auto parts store that has them, then have to buy two or more of each because that's the size of the package they come in, it's been more trouble than it's worth. Heck, I may get a pair. – Eric

    Brakes locking up

That package is for three fittings and you only need two. Also it doesn't list the sizes anywhere, so I guess you just have to take their word for it. What you need for the master cylinder is two nuts for 3/16" tubing, one 9/16-20 and one 1/2-20. The 9/16-20 is the tricky one (if I recall), as...

You shouldn't have any adapters on there, and is that TEFLON TAPE I see??? Just buy a roll of Nickel Copper tubing and a bunch of the correct-size nuts and a flare kit and remake it yourself. I never trust anyone to work on my brakes, and you shouldn't either - look what happens. - Eric
