So I think I possibly found a car.

Yea I don't want to offend him or anything, but there is a guy with a 1974 Scamp that is running and road ready with a 360 and he wants $1500. It just needs a paint job. I'll bring $800 bucks with me, but I'll start at $500 and hope he bites. I hope I can get as lucky as I did with the engine...

So I think I possibly found a car.

Yea, but it sounds like he wants it gone and its been sitting for 16 years. I don't know if the breaks need work, if the steering is shot. There will be a lot of work that needs done to that car before it is street ready. Plus the guy posted the add two months ago and still has the car so...

So I think I possibly found a car.

1967 Valiant. No engine or tranny, but I have a 383 BB that I will be picking up this week. The guy is asking $1500, but he said it's been sitting in storage since 1998 and he want's it gone so I think I'll show up with $500 cash and a flatbed. Thoughts?

Yep I totally agree. I plan on offering $300 and see where that gets me. The worst he can say is no lol.
  6. HEMI_POWER

    So I found a 383 fully assembled.

Well as of now I don't have a car to put it in, but if it a smoking deal like this I can get started working on the engine and then find a car to put it in. I need to give my Dad's '66 Chevelle SS a run for it's money haha. I'm the black sheep of the family because I'm the only Mopar guy. The...

Heck I'll probably just go pick it up and rebuild it so I have something to do until I can find a car to put it in.

    So I found a 383 fully assembled.

The guy said it ran 5 years ago and then he took it out of his truck. It's been stored indoors ever since. He wants $200 bucks for it. Is that a steal pr should I just stick to building a 318 for a Dart.

I haven't looked at the car yet, but he said it turns over. I haven't offered anything yet, but I asked how much he wanted and he said 2,000 OBO lol. I can tell just be looking at it it isn't worth more than $650

So here is the car: How much should I offer for it? http://www.wrightwaysalvage.com/store/p92/1972_Dart.html

Price wise I thought it made the most sense. There is a place in Kentucky that rebuild heads and fully tests them. They even come with a warranty. I just have to figure out how much it will cost to do a 3 angle valve job, a mild port, and bowl blend. If I did the 302 cast heads and ran KB...

Thanks! I'll check it out. The reason I was thinking the 302 Cast is because I can buy them fully rebuilt and assembled for $285 per head.

I'll have to keep an eye out for some 308's. I cannot find them anywhere online.

    1972 318 la

The RHS Heads I was looking at cost $1500+ (per pair) Unless I'm not looking in the right spot lol.

    1972 318 la

I would like to spend less than $2,000 on the engine. I have a little parts list going and so far I came up with this: 1972 318 LA (bore .30 over) stock crankshaft 302 Cast Heads ported 1.88/1.60 3 angle valve job and bowl blend KB 167 Pistons/Moly Rings Scat I-Beam rods Comp Cam XE275HL...

So it would be wise to bore the block .30 or .40 to get closer to the 4.00 bore.

Where is the best place to ?get a set of those heads?
  18. HEMI_POWER

    1972 318 la

Thanks for the input guys. Now I plan on doing the KB Pistons for sure I just need to decide if I want to add 360 LA heads or find some 302 heads. Since I'm going with the KB pistons what would I need to do for porting/milling as far as heads go?
  19. HEMI_POWER

    1972 318 la

Thanks for the INFO. I have been reading a lot about the "302" heads as well. Would that be a good option or should I just look for pre '91 360 Heads?

I was thinking this may be a good start PISTONS: KB Flat Top (KB167) CAM: Comp Cam XE275HL HEADS: EngineQuest (CH318B) PUSH RODS: Comp Magnum (7960) Do you possibly know what auto transmission came stock in the '72 Dart Swinger? Would it be worth it to just swap in a A833 4 Speed?

I have no clue. I'll look into it!

I have access to a 1999 Magnum 360, but I really do not feel like messing with the computer and EFI.
  23. HEMI_POWER

So the Dart I am looking at has a 318 in it with the stock automatic. What would I need to do to build this engine up? What should I look for as far as heads go? I would like to get to the mid 300's (325-375) if it's possible.

Ok so I got the VIN back and it already has a 318 in it with the Automatic. Now it comes down to negotiating a price lol.

    1972 Dart Swinger

The new 5.7 Hemi is an awesome engine for sure. I'm thinking about doing a 360. My brother has one out of a 1999 Ram 1500. Is there a way to carburate a late model Magnum 5.9 so I don't have to worry about the computer?
  27. HEMI_POWER

    1972 Dart Swinger

I haven't looked at it in person yet, but hopefully the guy sends me the VIN today. I would want something I can drive on the street, but let it loose every once in a while. Kind of a sleeper car if you would. It's definitely a budget build since I have a lot of funds tied up in my 2014 Ram.

    1972 Dart Swinger

Ok so I may be picking up a '72 Dart project car and I was wondering what engine/trans I should run in it? I know a guy willing to sell me a 383 Mopar BB for $400, but it needs rebuilt. Should I just go with a 318/360 SB instead? Any input would be great! Thanks guys.

Hello everyone! I'm Mike and I'm new to the forums. I drive a 2014 Ram 1500 Big Horn, but the reason i joined is because I may be purchasing a 1972 Dodge Dart Swinger and I had a few questions that I'll be posting in the near future!
