    Brainstormin' 440 vs 5.9 ...

My 70 Charger ran 12.30s at Wooburn with a stock NYer shortblock, MP template ported 906s , headers and a .550 short duration roller cam . I was running a 6pak but a good single plane would have worked. 4000# with driver. I also had a 65 Coronet 500 with a similar build except a MP 284/ 484...

    Brainstormin' 440 vs 5.9 ...

If only want to spend a total of $500 buy a bigger cam for the 5.9 and a porting template kit. A 440 will require a different transmission, exhaust , mounts etc… Unless you are maxed out for head flow and cam already you can pick up quite a bit .

    Weight loss.

Haven’t read the entire thread but I have a few questions . Brett… did you make both the bottom cushion and the folding seat back ? My 68 Fastback rear folding seatback weighs a ton ! Did you make a lightweight console ? Another ton of weight …. I would consider a bench due to weight of...

    Tow points under K member

Yep… same reason you alway strap your dirtbike down with hooks pointing up depending on your trailer hook orientation. If the strap relaxes the hook will fall off . After a long ride with a friend as we were driving down a rough mountain road and I glance in my side mirror to see his bike...

    Tow points under K member

Fab up a bracket that mounts to the bumper bolts on the frame. Make them triangle shaped with holes at bottom large enough to accommodate your strap hooks . They would be out of sight and high enough to not be prone to scraping over speed bumps etc . Not to mention you wont bend any suspension...

    2-Step Switch Ideas

I run a Daytona Sensors CD-1 ignition which has 3 limiters . Max rpm , burn out rpm and launch . It will also datalog , trigger nitrous and a myriad of other things .

    2-Step Switch Ideas

I used a stock flasher switch to arm mine . Looks stock on dash as long as the looker doesn’t know how many switches a 69 Dart came with . Or they can’t count…lol

Salter Racing Engines rule of thumb, port 90% of Valve ?

His latest vid popped up and it appears to be a 2 part rant against other engine builders. Lol Didn’t burn any of my life watching.

Duster Breaks FAST Small Block Record

And Vettes came with the biggest tires of any 60/70s muscle cars . I know where there is a 73 Vette with 50k original miles that I can buy pretty cheap and am half tempted to move on . Its been sitting inside for many years with the dash taken apart because it needed a heater core and the...

Duster Breaks FAST Small Block Record

My assumption is that it’s not just max HP that counts . Its power delivery that will not blow the tires off but pulls hard into higher rpms . 115 LSAs , high compression, trick timing curves etc…. Then you need to tune the suspension to maximize traction. But because you are limited to...

Duster Breaks FAST Small Block Record

The FAST class cars are hooking due to suspension setup / weight distribution/ cam grinds that push the power into higher rpms and softer low ends / timing tricks / tire shaving and many tricks I haven’t even thought of . Pretty impressive builds!

Duster Breaks FAST Small Block Record

Not that I have had any blazing fast cars but I have always (since the 80s) built my cars in FAST fashion . My 408 W2 Swinger might hit the 10’s but it has headers and a Victor intake . I think the key to hooking with bias ply's is weight transfer , loose front suspension, semi loose rear ...

Duster Breaks FAST Small Block Record

My 73 340 4sp Dart Sport ran high 12 in FAST form and I drove it from Idaho to Brainard MN and back . The key to success is in picking a platform that came from the factory with wide tires , good intake / carbs , light weight , decent exhaust manifolds etc . Corvettes kick *** because of...

    Eric's cam challenge

Yes… it was my engine . We did around 7 power pulls but spent quite a while doing low rpm/ part throttle tuning . This guy was exceptional though… he had my engine for 3 days. Day 1 he hooked it up, Day 2 he broke it in and did some baseline tuning , day 3 we did part throttle and wide open...

Hope taller tires won't hurt pinion angle too much

I haven’t raced in years but maybe bringing rpms up to close to stall will help in loading the tires to get more bite ? My thinking is the stabbing it from idle might be equivalent to dropping the clutch at whatever your stall speed is . This is me just thinking out loud.

Hope taller tires won't hurt pinion angle too much

I missed the part about raising the rear end . I thought he was saying the taller tire would raise the rear…. So it depends on how you raise the rear end . The question is “will your car be faster with the bigger tires?) They will add rotating mass and the overall ratio of the rear gearing...

Hope taller tires won't hurt pinion angle too much

This is why we have so much trouble setting pinion angles (driveline angles..). It has nothing to do with IF the car is level . It is the difference between the trany to diveshaft vs angle of pinion to driveshaft . The car could be upside down ! Then there is also the negative vs positive...

Pinion angle has nothing to do with tire size . It is the difference between the front /rear ujoint angles
