I did the forbidden swap. No, not the LS LOL

This block I had shaved to get the pistons at .010 below deck, and I'm using .028 gasket set. The heads are not shaved at all yet. I also wanted my adjusters up high to keep my fulcrum and contact points in line for best geometry I'm going to get short of a kit from b3. All said and done and I...

I did the forbidden swap. No, not the LS LOL

These are procomp/speedmaster 170 as cast. I did a moderately decent Port job on them here at the house. I used brass tubing to sleeve the push rod tunnels, and ground away all of the aluminum to open the pushrod pinch until I hit the brass. Worked on the roof and the sides, took the ridge off...

I did the forbidden swap. No, not the LS LOL

For the double gasket job I brushed RTV on them and glued them together, waited until they dried and then put them on. I did do the RTV on the China rails and around the water ports as well. I think the biggest problem is simply that the bolts were bottoming out against the side of the bolt hole...

No but that would be pretty good combo. And these are the procomp/speedmaster 1.6 stainless rockers.

I did the forbidden swap. No, not the LS LOL

That one *is* going to have to wait till this weekend, once I discovered I'm leaking water into the oil I shut it off. I don't want to run the risk of scoring my bearings. Turns out I cut my intake flanges on the manifold down a little too far and had to double gasket. I don't think that's the...

I did the forbidden swap. No, not the LS LOL

I got another 15 years before my youngest is out of the house, nicer heads are going to have to wait a minute.. in the meantime though these heads are flowing better and saving me 50 lb over my original Magnum heads so I'm as happy as a hog in slop at the moment

I did the forbidden swap. No, not the LS LOL

Okay, I know I said I'd have it up and running by this weekend but screw that noise. I skipped dinner and got it cranked up about 20 minutes ago. We getting oil up top! It's filling up the rocker and coming out the dribbler hole to the valve tip just as planned:D:D:D don't look like much right...

By this weekend, I will have the results in. I'm still buttoning up a few things that you can see ain't quite put together yet, and then I got some tuning to do, but when I see that beautiful Texas tea oozing out of all the right places I'll make sure to snap a video.

No offense to all the fine folks who said it was a pain in the ass, because it is. Just not in the same way y'all thought.

I'm running out of room, so I've got a couple of parts to get rid of. Dead on 2 and 4

Even guesses can be helpful, because it wasn't my own guess. When you're working on your own stuff sometimes you get single track minded and overlook some obvious things that other people, being a little further removed from the frustration, may think of when you don't.

    Dead on 2 and 4

Wow.. good info. I'll have to pay attention to that when I get the manifold off and verify.

    Dead on 2 and 4

About three and a half years ago while replacing some head gaskets, I didn't get the pushrod centered on the lifter. It got stuck on the lip and I didn't catch it before I cranked it over. It bottomed out the valve spring and bent the push rod. I must have damaged the spring back then, and it...

That's exactly what it turned out to be, broken exhaust valve spring

    Dead on 2 and 4

Got plenty of clearance on that front, they are good to .575 and I am at .555 at the exhaust. Thinking back a few years, I installed the pushrod incorrectly on that spring once, push rod was sitting on the lip of the lifter, I cranked it up and bent the push rod. Turns out I must have damaged...

    Dead on 2 and 4

I certainly will before it comes back together, looks like I have to pull the whole top end off of the motor and run through the valve train. If I can have one broke spring I can have another sooner than later

    Dead on 2 and 4

It was suggested that I pulled the valve covers to check the rocker arms, and since I am out of my own ideas I went ahead and did so. Exhaust valve spring on cylinder 2 is broken. I guess that's why it took a couple of extra turns to get a good reading on the compression tester. Air pressure was...

    Dead on 2 and 4

I did notice when I pulled the spark plug that it did not smell like gas, I have no idea why it would not have fuel, they are not even on the same plenum..

    Dead on 2 and 4

That was one of the thoughts I had, but they do have strong spark after I get it put back together..

    Dead on 2 and 4

I had some errands to run and a kitchen faucet to put in for the wife, my payment for having her help me work on the car (turn the key ). That helped to take my mind off of the car for a minute and now that I'm a little less frustrated I want to thank you guys for jumping in so quick. This is a...

    Dead on 2 and 4

I need to pick some brains here, mine is shot at the moment. I'm getting no fire on cylinders 2 and 4. I pulled all of the spark plugs and tested cylinder compression, every single cylinder is within 3 pounds of 140. I have not done a leak down test yet, but the leak down tester has been...

    [Found!] A904 pushbutton transmission

I also have one I pulled out when I did my V8 swap, worked just fine other than needing the drum band tightened. Just need it off my fab table if you don't mind paying for shipping.

    Ol' Blue's magnum swap

Up until just recently, number three and five header tubes were mashed in to about 30% of their original volume to fit around the factory power steering gear box and it still ran way better than the rear tires can handle. Since I put a smaller gearbox in it I was able to fix some of that damage...

    Ol' Blue's magnum swap

To the best of my knowledge, HEI distributors were designed in the era of 7.5 compression and restrictive bead type catalytic converters. On those motors these supplied advanced curve works perfectly, but with Magnum engines you want the timing to come all in by 3750 and be limited to about...

    Ol' Blue's magnum swap

I made the looms out of some scrap aluminum angle I had laying around, and the wires are 10.5 mm. I'm not running enough juice to need that much insulation, but the big chunky boys had a nice visual pop to it I think.

Took care of the wire routing while I was in there too. Any excuse to play with my tig welder..

    New alternator, not charging

At almost every turn I prefer the idea of mechanical over electronic, but I have heard that the new ones aren't built as well. Unless you have one you trust?
