Anyone have a proven aluminum headed, 500 hp, 440 six pack build?????????????

500+ hp six pack build is easy and doesn't need be expensive either. It's a long read.... we Machined/Built and Dyno tested 2 identical 440's and we used a 4 BBL and Stealth Heads for the factory appearance, but go have a 'Boo through this for a few ideas on the basic engine build, the...

[SOLD] 340 X Heads, nice original shape

Like the title says, a nice pair of 340 X Heads complete W/2.02"/1.60" Valves & Springs for rebuilding ? Date codes are June 23rd and July 7th 1969. I really don't know if they even need rebuilding, they are a shed find been sitting for probably 30-40 years since removed, so lots of dust and...

413 marine industrial (E) engine, to, not so industrail......

The ootb Stealth Aluminum Heads from 440 source will bolt on just fine.... but they really need no less than 9.5:1 Compression Ratio even with 87 octane regular fuel, just to heat up whatsoever. Be sure to Check Valve to Bore interference on the 413's small bore, you can put reliefs in the tops...

    383B Stroker Build

First off, may I ask how much power you are targeting ? and, keeping in mind rpm is a function of hp, just what range you are looking at that hp ? upper and LOWER. Because the Car is 50% of the equation.... and serves as the platform to run the Engine, things like Tire Diameter, Gearing...

    piston to wall measurement

Correct, they are calling for the Bore Diameter, to be .0020" to .0025" larger than the Piston. That is a "minimum" reccomended clearance for installation. Additional clearance may be required as per the application... C.R., RPM intended, Etc., etc. USE A TORQUE PLATE, or you will have...

New guy to big block world, need a 400HP 383 Recipe

Here is .030" over 383 Magnum "resto", if you like it I will post up the build in detail. * this particular build uses the stock cast "jobber" Pistons because the Customer already had them.... but far easier to repeat today with KB's. Stock Rods W/ARP Bolts Ported Iron Heads w/stock 2.08"/ 1.74"...

    438/451 Lowdeck Dyno

1 7/8" Header on a 451 in my experience is always a few hp better than the Dyno 2 1/8" EGT Headers. Yes, the 2 nd Sheet is just a pretty run of the mill RB 440 Build, "Prepped' stock ly rods, Icon Pistons, Ported Stealths with the CompCams XE284 on 1.5 Rockers @ .510" lift.

    438/451 Lowdeck Dyno

OK, here is a couple of photos of the Stock 440 Forged Crank Counterweight prep for use in the Lowdeck 400 Blocks. I get a kick out of the "451 manifesto" posted here and elsewhere on the Web ? Don't get me wrong here... I think it's GREAT that the info is written and saved for posterity... I...

    440 Build Help...Piston Delima

Part of what used to make the 2355's so heavy is the 250 gram pin ? Not sure if they are still using that Pin ? ....but we used to order the 1915 SP Pin and shave 40 grams off right away(not sure if that's available anymore either ?) Nothing wrong with the 2355, virtually indestructible...

    900+ HP Pump Gas HEMI

Not a fair comparison Bob.... we're up here in CAN-A-DUH where EVERYTHING costs more ? I mean we pay $5.50 a gallon for regular, the same Gasoline we export to the U.S.A. and sells it for $2.78 ?? But we're OK on this one at $40K Canadian, out the door "DYNO'D" for 8 Hrs, in the Customers...

    Is connecting rod bushings needed?

Look, I am done here OK ? I have covered everything from TODAYS oils(not 30 yrs ago), to the 1053 steel Rod oon the Tool steel Pin, to Piston Alloy, in your case High Silicon Hypereutectic, although it would not matter HS 4032 or lower silicon 2618 Forged. I have told you my opinion here, but...

    Is connecting rod bushings needed?

What I would like to know, is what POSSIBLE advantage you think you are gaining running "Steel on Steel" to Float a Rod ? You can answer your own question here ? The quick answer is NOBODY ever made "Floating" Rods the way you are planning ? So, any ADVANTAGES you may think you are gaining ...

    Is connecting rod bushings needed?

The stock "ly" Rods only require a "light hone" to full-float, no "Boring" maybe about 20-30 Minutes including Machine setup ? VERY cheap to do THAT way ? They are usually -.001" to -.002" interference stock, opening them up to .001" CLEARANCE to full float... so only .003" to Hone does not...

    900+ HP Pump Gas HEMI

You are Welcome if you are contemplating anything BB Mopar related in particular... just ask ? I've probably already built it and Dyno'd it over the last 35 years. Always good to see how somebody else did it as info. I am pretty much retired now... so no big deal. However, I do have to...

    438/451 Lowdeck Dyno

You have a VERY FINE Engine there Fisher ! I certainly meant no dis-respect by referring to the power output as "normal" earlier, for UN-Ported Eddy Heads in that application ?? Nonetheless, the numbers pretty much..... ARE "normal" from what we see here with UN-Ported Heads on the Dyno. My...

    Is connecting rod bushings needed?

I have not done it since the 70's ? The reason is, there is no point. What potential miniscule gain does anyone think full floating a Pin steel on steel will provide ? The answer is absolutely NONE ! if there is ANY other option, which there is... Simply Pin-Fit the Pin in the PISTON at...

To sleeve or not to sleeve

Depends where it cracked.. if it went over an edge onto a deck... or below a cylinder into the case. personally, I don't sleeve rb mopars as general practise. NOT saying it can not be done, just saying I don't do it much anymore as power outputs keep rising.

Just for sh*ts & giggles We do these for some of our more "monied" Customers, who want the eye candy the HEMI has to offer, but don't want the hassle to put Race Gas in a Street Car ? So, * KB Water Block * Stage V Heads * 91 Octane * Roller Cam @ .640" Intake, .617" Exhaust(easy on...

    438/451 Lowdeck Dyno

I will find and post some Pics of the angle grinder "windage" Crank Prep for less parasitic power loss, as opposed to actually "machining" the counterweights which merely makes the Crank "Fit" the Block with no gain. 2 birds with 1 stone..... FIT it.... AND Gain power. The size of...

    438/451 Lowdeck Dyno

I posted this on another thread... thought I would put it up here, more as an example to stress the IMPORTANCE of PORTING, when it comes to the Eddy or Stealth Heads ? just my opinion here, but really, NOBODY should expect REAL power from OOTB Eddy's or Stealths, by just bolting them on ?? If...

    a "Lowly" 440 Dyno

OK, here's the first one we did back in 2007, hit 10's in Edmonton(still is today) on 91 Octane, and caused all the ruckus and more phonecalls. It was, and is, still a very nice pump gas package. We do a 426/438 version as well for the Guys using 383 Blocks, very close to the same power, just...

    Is connecting rod bushings needed?

Something wrong with simply running the Pin with an "interference" in the Rod small end ? installed thermally ? Yes, running the pin "floated" in the rod "steel on steel" has been done in the past, and was common back in the day.... but Old School & outdated today at best on TODAYS Oils...

    a "Lowly" 440 Dyno

WE use stock 440 Cranks for our 383 & 400 Block based 438/451 stuff, as a good application for otherwise unwanted stock stroke forged cranks. WE have about 8 of them running around / Bracket Racing in the Calgary/Edmonton area over the last 4 years... very popular. XS282S Solid Cam is the...

    a "Lowly" 440 Dyno

I can't say for sure... but I believe "some" at least ? IMO, The 274 CompCam ITSELF just hits a wall.... better Heads should fatten the curve overall, but really it's a Leave it in D auto camshaft as the Customer is a resto guy ? and, just let it upshift on it's own off the kickdown adjustment...

    a "Lowly" 440 Dyno

yep, the 274 deal is 10.36 rounded to 10.4:1 and the 284 Engine just slightly higher at 10.48 again rounded to 10.5:1 Stealths all seem to CC right around the 83 mark, we took them down to 80CC, then just Block Milling downfill variance. Both run great on 91 Octane Pump Premium... No...
