Can't start, no spark getting to plugs

Interesting theory, Mac. I'll have to take a look and test it. I've tried pretty much everything I can think of. I even removed the electronic ignition conversion from the distributor to see if it was burned out (apparently, leaving the key in the on position for extended periods of time is...

Can't start, no spark getting to plugs

Thanks for the help. Yes, the coil is the stock coil. I have heard of using a coil that is made to use with the electronic ignition kit that I have, but the current one has worked just fine for the past 10 years or so. I wonder if I should look into the coil as the possible culprit? How...

Can't start, no spark getting to plugs

Thanks for the input. As stated earlier, I installed a new cap and rotor, still the problem persists. As far as my methodology for testing spark from the coil? I just unplugged the coil wire from the cap while it was still plugged into the coil. I could see and hear spark coming from that...

Can't start, no spark getting to plugs

I've had my car sitting since January, everything worked fine back then. Now, I can't get my car started. It almost wants to fire the first couple of cranks, but never actually does. After more cranking, there is no indication that it wants to even start. I'm getting good fuel, spark from...

    Exhaust Pipe Diameter 273

I had the 40 series on my 318 Duster. Paired with headers, they were pretty loud at the tips. I decided to chop off the tail pipes (just behind the muffler outlet) one day to see what kind of racket I could make. Now, that was some serious noise right there, especially inside. They sounded...

Thanks for the pics, Lou. Nice setup you have there.

    Exhaust Pipe Diameter 273

Never plan to go that far. When I eventually rebuild the 273, I might hop it up a bit to commando specs, but that's about it. I like the idea of having a smaller displacement and original block in the car. Would 2.5" be overkill for now on the stock motor?

    Exhaust Pipe Diameter 273

Thanks for the input everyone! I'm running the stock manifolds btw. I got an estimate a while back: $650 [FM 40 series, without an X-Pipe (seemed a bit high)]. Thinking I might shop around a bit more...I know a lot of people are anti-flowmaster. I've always loved the sound, but not so sure...

    Exhaust Pipe Diameter 273

Just wondering what size exhaust piping I should be running behind a stock 273 2bbl. Been wanting to do a dual exhaust system for a while from the manifolds back. Thoughts on H or X pipe? Is it even necessary with a stock motor like mine? Undecided on mufflers too, any suggestions would be...

    Power Steering problems

Yeah, he thought he'd replace the pump to see if that makes a difference first. I know, grasping at straws can be annoying sometimes when trying to troubleshoot. When I first saw the car, I noticed the pump right away and figured it was probably not the right one. Which, in turn, could have...

    Power Steering problems

My bro just purchased a '71 Dart. He's having issues with his power steering (jerky movement and wandering steering wheel while driving). He decided to replace the old power steering pump with a new one. However, the pulley from his old pump is pressed on, while the new pump from napa is...

    1968 Dart 2dr sedan

So, is that a self morphing grille you have on there. You can be a '68 on one day then a '69 on the next? All kidding aside, good luck with the sale.

    Flowmaster

Had flowmaster 40 series with headers on 2 1/4 exhaust. Originally, the exhaust went all the way to the rear bumper. Sound was nice, didn't really notice any drone. One day I decided to cut the tail pipes off, so the exhaust was basically dumped right behind the muffler. Much louder and...

    Headers?

If you want loud and obnoxious, go with the 40 series flowmaster. They're even louder if you dump the pipes right behind the mufflers (no tailpipes). There are plenty of other loud and obnoxious muffler's out there, but I've only had experience with flowmaster and magnaflow. Both can be very...

    Headers?

I had 2.25" behind my 318 with long-tube Hedman headers. And for the record, those headers were absolute garbage. I think anything larger than 2.25" is overkill for a stock 318.

    Hello from Northern CA

Welcome to the site. I'm a bit south of you, about 20 miles NE of Sacramento. I have, however, been through Redding many times. I went camping at Whiskeytown lake when I was a kid. Nice looking Dart you have there.

    7 1/4 rearend

Man, I feel lucky after reading some of these 7.25 horror stories. I used to burn the crap out of my tires back in the day with my Duster which had a 318/904/7.25. Never once did I have a problem with that rear end. The wheel bearings did go out on one side once, but that was an easy fix...
