The 440 came out of a motorhome so obviously the manifolds need changing. I took all the "spagetti" off the motor and am installing. Proper carb. The manifolds I am hoping to use came out of a 68 383 c-body. Also I am hoping to keep my power steering...

    Cam Suggestions

I will go measure again but I am pretty sure it's correct. Most of the "smogger" 440's were over .100 in the hole. This engine on paper has only 230hp and 340 ft lbs of torque. That same paper says it has 8.2:1 compression but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a bit lower than that. I will cc...

Jim, How I am interested. How important do you think changing the lifters is? This motor looks like it has less than 50 on it.

    3rd Times a Charm, Low comp 440

Just tore down my 78 California Emissions low compression 440. This is now the 3rd engine I have opened up hoping to find a little life left in her. These pics are the result. Mains all came out at .002 with plasti gauge and the rods came out just a hair under that. All the cylinders look...

    440 Bearings

Dang. I am desperetly trying to make mine a runner with a cheap low compression 440 while I spend dollars and time on proper machining and parts for my 68 steel crank core. Seems like there were enough of these motors made I should be able to snag a runner. I have one more 440 that I am...

    Big Block Advice?

Way to be different man!! I give cudo's to any youngster who likes old cars, especially mopars. Dont feel bad for your budget man. We all have to play the waiting game with our toys and dreams for them. My wife and kids always take priority so I understand the budget concerns. Speaking as a...

    Just picked this up

That is what I was thinking. I was trying to find a driveline at the yard that had a 727 and 8 3/4 ends so I could just have it shortened and balanced. I will check the yolk size. My 8 3/4 rear has the small bolt pattern axles so I would not be surprised if it is the smaller yolk size.

    440 Bearings

I will definetly take it out. How long on each one? Also If I did hone it myself would I use a ball type and for how long? Would a new set of rings seat properly? THANKS FOR THE HELP!!

    440 Bearings

I noted the chain slop as well. I was already planning on replacing it. I have been robbed of power before by an overlooked chain. Will the engine take well to having new bearings put in it without any machine work? (My goal here is to make a runner so I can play this summer while building...

    440 Bearings

Here is a bearing from the 73 440 I am hoping to install in my Valiant. What do you think? I am hoping to run this motor as is. Also number one cylinder has some light rust in it due to that having an open valve while in storage. The rest are fine. I will post a pic as soon as I get the head...

    Just picked this up

Here is the 727 and 440 that came with it. I did not realize it but the yolk pulls right out. I think it was left in there so the trans would not leak. This was why I was confused because I thought I was buying a proper car long tailshaft 727 and I didnt think they came with a fixed yolk on...

    Just picked this up

I just picked up a big block 727 I am curious if the yolk on the tail needs to be removed or can I get a driveline made for that. Also, will my 904 driveline fit this tranny and yolk with a shortening or do I need to get another from a factory 727 car with and 8 3/4 rear.

    My low compression 440 build

I think I may buy some tri-y headers. I was hoping to save a buck and keep it quiet but I am not interested in chasing down mismatched old manifolds that would then need modification and still restrict my exhaust flow. I just thought if i could throw on the ones off my other motor I would just...
