As someone who has cut apart factory cast iron intake manifolds and exhaust manifolds and re welded them, I would not attempt fixing it. You will chase those cracks into areas you won't have access too.
That was always my dream for a f.a.s.t. build, big bore and a touch smaller stroke but that hasn't materialized yet. No doubt I'm sure it has been done dozens of times but 9's @ around 3200lbs is achievable with J's. Not sure what your end goal is.
Is it possible you have the upper control arms swapped side to side? It may be the angle of the picture but it appears you have a ton of negative caster (upper ball joint forward of center line).
For what it's worth I was able to achieve 4.5 degrees of positive caster using the factory...
Use the 1/2" impact everyday. The small and the large. Great bang for the buck. My cordless Milwaukee is more powerful, but I only have to pull that out maybe once a month to get something off the aircat can't do.
Winter updates for me is PRH is spec'ing a new cam that is a touch different. New exhaust system. New fuel system. Doing another intake manifold. Hoping to get it on Dwaynes dyno to try a couple things and do the cam swap on the dyno. A couple issues popped up with the suspension that I...
Luckily for me I don't have a Facebook account. Lol.
I don't think the car is all that special, if anything it just shows how stubborn I am when I set my mind to an idea. There are a couple of cars being built that on paper should be easy contenders for giving the duster a run for it's money...
Oh absolutely. I'll take dry air over cold air. But cold dry air... Lol. When we first put dad's AAR together for fast our first track was englishtown nj in November, -1100ft air. Went 11.72, the small block record was 11.57. We were like, oh this is going to be easy. Took 2 years of...
Cecil County is a great track. Those guys worked theirs butts off making everyone look good, it was unbelievably hot, but the track hooked so well we made some killer runs. I saw your car and stopped to take a look, didn't see anyone around.
Right around there. Unfortunately added weight to the front and rear this year. Was in such a rush at the end to get the motor together, and then get the rear end straightened out I did not get a chance to get it on the scales.
If I had the money to start over with a new block, it wouldn't be the way I would go. I had too much money in this block when I found out it was a turd.
I took the g/f for ice cream in it last year? No extrude honing the exhaust, I just hogged them out the old fashioned way. I don't know if anyone has looked at the passenger side exhaust manifold on a 71 340, but even getting as thin as I dared, the outlet is only a touch over 1 7/8". Can't...
Best pass of the weekend. Learned a lot about the new motor combo. The new rear suspension seems to have a lot of potential that I just need some track time to work through, but at least I got it back to where it was. @PRH I'll be calling soon. I have ideas.
Still off in the 60', but man the work over the year in the motor is starting to show. Air is 1200' so still not mineshaft. Think I have something figured out for tomorrow.
We agreed I would give him the hit. That was my best run of the weekend. I don't have any kind of data recording or any electronics so I use the gas pedal to get it off the line and usually can get mid 1.5's but this new motor is a lot trickier. If I had to guess, I didn't go full throttle...
Yup. And I really appreciate it!
I learned a lot doing this intake, I have easily a couple months of my life into it. Made a mistake I didn't catch or think about until I went to bolt it on Sunday. I port matched it to a gasket, realized my mistake when I went to glue the gaskets to the...
Still working at it. Got the new motor running Tuesday night at about 10, loaded it in the trailer and drove 8hrs Wednesday to get MIR. Best mph of the weekend was 129.46, air was about 1300' so looking at old time slips it's up about 2.4mph from the old motor. I don't think it gained much up...
Hoping to get a little more out of the combo this time around. New heads, intake and exhaust manifolds. A little more squeeze. On paper it should be interesting.. reality I will probably be running with rhet..
? 10.49 @128.2mph using a factory thermoquad, j-heads, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, 2.5" full exhaust, all steel, full interior, on a 6" wide poly glass reproduction tire.
