340 is good for boat anchor as they make 120hp less than a 6.1 as they left the factory. How many passes would a stock 340 have lasted at 425hp? Its 2017 now not 1973 Anyway valvetrain is fine to 7500rpm if looking at the dragpak cars is anything to go by.....8000rpm onstock rockers

The real weak points are the cast pistons, powdered rods and the oil system. Aftermarket pistons and rods are readily available and make sure u have a healthy oil pump, a large enough sump and use the correct weight oil for your specific oil clearances

I like this thread. IronMike I really think you should bite the bullet and fit the BPE heads and see the difference. I think Hughes stuff is inflated and over advertised for what they are, no offence to them

I agree, my own 318 engine dynoed at 411 hp, in a 3525lb car went everything from 13.1@111 to 12.3@111 depending on gears, converter and chassis set up thrown at it

Not to discredit hughes good work but ive seen their 300 cfm stg 3 Eddies only go 280 on someone elses bench, and their 700+hp G3 hemi is unbelievable literally

Sounds like its running out of fuel supply. Check between pump and carb inlet for restrictions, restrictions from tank to pump, blocked pick up, blocked filters.

Or just buy the jesel belt drive
