Magnum head porting for the beginner

About to look up part II but I have to say this has got to be one of the highest quality posts I have ever seen on any forum. Amazing step by step analysis and great technically backed information. Great post!!

360 mag with X heads anyone?

I pulled the intake off and confirmed they are the 308 heads

360 mag with X heads anyone?

Nice!, thanks for the tips. Yes I intend a small cam just to get the power up but nothing over 5300 I suppose. What valvesprings are the economic go’s, lol

360 mag with X heads anyone?

Oh ok thanks for clearing that for me. Are the 308 heads any decent? Not looking to do any major changes to this motor and trying to maximize with what I got. Willing to invest in the cam and springs just to make it sound better and have decent street power. Thanks for the info

360 mag with X heads anyone?

Casting date, 25.6.92 so I suppose it’s a model year 1993 magnum block. Here’s a pic of the head uncovered. I slapped it together, going to wash it up and pull the intake off. Seems to be oiling through the rocker shaft. Pushrods have holes but rockers do not. Everything looks clean and well...

360 mag with X heads anyone?

rockers are stock stamped steel, I did confirm it is a roller lifter motor, and yes will definitely learn exactly what i have before I order anything. Thanks

360 mag with X heads anyone?

Man I doubt it's an EQ head, this thing was literally built in mexico, that's why I have a feeling it's got some early 80's head. I'll try to get the intake off today to check the casting number of the head

360 mag with X heads anyone?

No idea, I didn’t check the casting date

360 mag with X heads anyone?

Block casting number is 53020006-360, that checked out as a magnum block according to my search.

360 mag with X heads anyone?

Oh interesting on the oiling, thanks.Yup I really want to know what heads it’s got. I’m assuming it’s got some terrible smog era heads, so that why I figured the X head would be better.

360 mag with X heads anyone?

Not sure, I just realized that too so I’m gonna do a little more digging in to figure out what I got. It seemed like a regular LA rocker shaft but I really didn’t pay too much attention when I pulled it off. Vehicle not near me at the moment to check

360 mag with X heads anyone?

Thanks for the response, yes I am aware of the magnum head advantage I was already shopping for magnum valve springs when it dawned on my that it had the cast iron intake of an LA motor with the angled bolts. I pulled the VC off to identify the head but unfortunately the casting # wasn’t under...

360 mag with X heads anyone?

So I picked up a nice 72 Satellite that is powered by a 360 magnum roller block but it’s topped with LA style heads that I haven’t identified cause the casting # is on the bottom and a cast iron 2bbl intake. I’m thinking of throwing in a small cam, I have a set X heads along with a Performer...

    POLYLOC MOTOR MOUNTS

Reviving this old thread. I’m looking for alternatives to the saggy Anchor original style mounts. I have a 400 hp 340 and TTI headers with a manual transmission. Just tired of the saggy mounts and headers knocking the torsion bars. Despite many hard launches on drag radials the rubber mounts...

    Anyone used Progression Ignition?

After reading this post I decided to order myself a Progression distributor, I have been running a Pertronix which has helped in reliability but the lack of being able to dial in my mechanical advance is the limiting factor to this distributor. I took it apart and welded the weights to limit...

    Heavy or lightweight flywheel?

    FWIW my car is a 246/252 on a 106

    Heavy or lightweight flywheel?

I’m actually waiting on my low speed air bleeds cause I agree it shouldn’t need 1k rpm to idle smoother. I’m hoping I can make it happier after some fine tuning in the idle circuit. Meanwhile I took a really good look at the ring gear but didn’t magnaflux it. It may have just been sized...

    Heavy or lightweight flywheel?

Very interesting info I did not realize. I imagine it’s healthy torque wise. Trans is a ViperT56 with 2.97 1st, 4.10’s out back and I can cruise along shifting at 1300 rpm and cruise in 6th gear just above idle with no jerking. I can take off on a slight grade from a dead stop in 4th. What you...

    Heavy or lightweight flywheel?

I figure it’ll just rev a bit quicker. Car is light, engine is lively and tires hook hard with the 28#’er. I’ll report back what it does with the 22#’er thanks for the great advice

    Shock Recommendation

Just an update, I decided to go with the Hotchkis Fox shocks all the way around. I love the way the car feels. It feels very modern and no more body roll nor bottoming out in speed bumps. Highly recommended

    Heavy or lightweight flywheel?

What weight is recommended for a 71 Demon, 340 setup. Street use with the occasional trip down the 1/4 mile. I currently use a Ram 28# flywheel but only after a few hundred miles the ring gear came loose. I tried calling them but they're all about emails now and I've been waiting with no...

Cam Suggestion for a 440-499 stroker

It feels like a totally different car with the Mopar Wedge intake. Gobs of low end torque and extremely responsive. Lights up all three gears still using the low stall converter . Damn car caught me off guard when I did a straight launch! Glad we’re upgrading his suspension cause it definitely...

Cam Suggestion for a 440-499 stroker

Update: I haven’t swapped in the stall converter yet but I did have a brand new Mopar wedge intake so I swapped it in end it instantly tamed the idle and tuned a lot easier, right now I’m just fixing his transmission kick down rod which is all in an odd shape And fixing his throttle linkage...

Cam Suggestion for a 440-499 stroker

Nope I posted this as I was closing shop. We will give it at shot tomorrow if our schedule permits. I’ll let you guys know how it goes. It’s a B-Body but I just posted here since I’m familiar with the community cause of my Demon.

Cam Suggestion for a 440-499 stroker

You know I failed to mention he intends to go to a 3.55 in the near future, again he wants a cruiser. I recurved the distributor and set it at 34 degrees total and rejetted the carburetor and it turned into quite the tire smoker vs the lazy launches it did when it first came in.

Cam Suggestion for a 440-499 stroker

You know I think I have a 727 stall converter laying in my shop. I’ll give it a shot to see how it responds and if the customer is happy with it. Good suggestions as always. Thanks

Cam Suggestion for a 440-499 stroker

I got a customer at my shop and I've been upgrading his brakes and suspension but then we got to talking about his engine and how it was setup. I could tell it needed carburetor tuning and timing re-curved. I did that and it runs a lot better but I can't do much for it's driving manners. I...
