Tried a quick search- no luck: Does weight of wheels really make much of a difference?

Grab a set (if you can find them) of Ansen cast aluminum wheels, and you'll find they are quite a bit heavier than the factory steel rims. They just looked cooler. When it came down to Centerlines, Cragar Super Tricks and Weld wheels, you're talking about some serious weight reduction.

    273/4 -318 debate

A buddy of mine ran across a 66 D-Dart with the hi-po 273 in it. The seller thought it had a rod or main bearing knock. The guy was asking $600 for it. Ken took it home and adjusted the valves. The seller didn't know it had a solid lifter cam from the factory.

    turning brake drums, surface flywheel-amazed!

In auto shop class when I was in high school, we learned how to REPAIR things; repair master and wheel cylinders, rebuild starters and alternators, etc. Now, it seems it's all remove and replace.

    using tubes as wheel spacers?

NHRA bans spacers for a reason. Most of them are made from aluminum. Your idea of using studs as spacers is an even worse idea. I saw a guy with a gorgeous 62 Corvette watch his slick finish the 1/4 mile ahead of his car. Not to mention the damage done to the body when that slick exited stage...

Is anyone else "touchy" about their Mopar? (long rant...)

The last car show I attended, I took my 73 Dart Sport 340. It was hardly stock (it ran 11.3s in the 1/4), the body was original body color and primer, but the interior had been recently redone. But, at the last engine rebuild, I painted the underhood body color (my personal preference). The most...

    Intake manifold decisions...

Thanks. I see no problem with your combo with those gears, although, I would lean towards the 3.91's. I ran 4.56s with a wide/tall tire combo and it LOVED the extra gear. It wasn't a lot of fun on the highway (get on, get off at next exit), but it sure loved the street...

Is anyone else "touchy" about their Mopar? (long rant...)

Don't let it bother you. I have a neighbor who, on the day he moved in (I was sitting in the garage door opening) said, "You drive a Ford???". I was more than happy to tell him that my v6 2016 would run circles around his 1974 V8 Nova. He closed with, "Well, I have a friend with a Chevelle that...

    Intake manifold decisions...

To the OP, did you mention what rear-end gear that you're running, or did I just miss it. I ran a gamut of intakes on my 73 Dart Sport 340. With a loose converter (TurboAction 3500 stall), and it seemed to like the Torker the best. I was also running a 4.56 Sure-Grip rear.

    Considering purchasing this Dart

Look at the rear wheelwell. The radius isn't even smooth. This car was probably cobbled together out of a few other cars. BAIL!

Ooooops, wont be driving the car for a week or so.

Another area to check (which has to be done with the front end in the air) is the shaft that goes through the k-member and supports the lower control arm. On my 73 Dart Sport, the forward side of the k-member, the hole was reamed out, allowing the shaft to move around in the hole. I later read...

    1969 Dart GTS

This was my first hotrod. A 1969 Dart GTS that I bought when I was in the Air Force. It was basically stock when I bought it. I got it into the 10s before retiring from drag racing in 1980. :rr: Yeah, I know; the hair, huh?

It's turning out to be a nice car. There's just ONE thing. For the 69 Swingers, the bumblebee stripe had the words "Dart Swinger" cut out of the stripe so they showed up as body color, as did the "GT Sport" (GTS).
