I’m not seeing the miss with the timing light anymore at 2500. But I am still hearing one, before pulling the distributor out I was getting a miss at 2500 with the timing light on every cylinder. Then I dis-connected the vacuum advance and plugged it off and wasn’t seeing the miss anymore with...

Ok I think I might finally be getting somewhere. I took the distributor out and I re-set the magnetic pick up coil post to reluctor tooth gap with and without vacuum applied it’s sitting around .009-.010 I know the stock spec is .008 but I had a hell of a time getting it set at .008 where all...

    Need help tuning Quickfuel carb

Ok guys, it’s not the carburetor. I have successfully determined that today. It’s in the distributor somewhere. I fired it up this afternoon let it warm up comkmetely and put my timing light on each cylinder and brought the rpm’s up to 2500 rpm. All 8 cylinders are showing a missfire in the...

Cookietruck I am going to try the 68 main jets today and I will report back as soon as I get it they installed and take it a for a drive. I have the same thought as you as it being lean and when I open her up it will clear up a little bit because it’s getting extra fuel from the pvcr’s below...

Read through this thread and pay attention to rapidrobert. This guy is pretty smart and he’s who informed me of rotor phasing on the Mopar style distributors. It’s a post of mine pertaining to the same problem I’m still having. And everyone thought ignition at first including myself. You have to...

In sorry to tell you this but your wrong dude, moving the reluctors position does move the rotors position. I’ve seen it with my own eyes.

No I am not seeing the timing bounce around. I was just asking because I have seen people online say the oil pump/ distributor driveshaft bushing inside the block can go out and cause issues. This distributor doesn’t have any significant amount of movement at that shaft up or down or side to...

I’m just getting so irritated with this thing lol. I’m going to put the Taylor wires back on it since it ran better with them. I will put my modified cap back in double check rotor phasing to make sure it still looks good. I do have a modified reluctor I can use to reposition the rotor if need...

Are you suggesting rotor phasing? Cause I’ve checked the rotor phasing with a hole drilled in the cap and it appears to be fine with and without vacuum advance. Here is a pic of my plugs the last time I had them out.

    Need help tuning Quickfuel carb

Well the main jets on this quickfuel carb don’t have anytning to do with the idle circuit. The idle circuit is ran on the idle feed restrictors and the idle air bleeds and the 4 idle mixture screws. The main circuit starts to come inn around 2400-2600 rpm. It makes sense that it could be going...

    Need help tuning Quickfuel carb

It’s tough to say if it’s lean or rich without a wideband o2. I really wish I had one right now, I’ve tried jetting down and that hasn’t done a dam thing. I have not tried increasing the main jet, and it would only take a few minutes to Pop the bowl off and install some bigger jets. I have some...

    Need help tuning Quickfuel carb

I don’t at the moment but I’m guessing the cap terminals showing that is because the rotor that firecore sends out in their distributors has a longer blade on it then a factory rotor. But I’m back to thinking this is carburetor related after last night. I waited till it got dark and I brought...

Is there a way to upload videos on here? I took a video of it so you guys can hear what it’s doing. The napa wires made it worse, so it’s not the Taylor wires.

It’s not an msd distributor it’s a firecore distributor and it’s brand new, in phase, and curved. There is no play at the shaft other then turning the rotor ccw which will Engage the advance springs and allow the rotor to come back a little bit.

Here is what my cap and rotor look like. Looks like something is going on inside the cap to have burn marks on the bottom of the cap terminals and the black sooty stuff on the edge of the rotor.

I’ve had this carburetor apart multiple times and I’ve never seen anything out of the ordinary. I’m running .028 idle feed restrictors, I’m running .065 idle air bleeds, I’m running .036 high speed air bleeds. I’m running 65 main jets and 75 secondary jets, float level is hovering around the...

So during my lunch break I took my timing light out and put it on each wire and brought the rpm’s up to around 3k and I couldn’t see missfire in the strobe light on any cylinder. But when I drive it I can tell it’s stilk missing around 55 mph in 3rd gear which is turning about 2500-2600 rpm...

I’ve got to go with plug wires at this point, compression is spot on not even 1 psi difference on all 8 cylinders. Power valve is brand new and same with the gasket, metering block gaskets and fuel bowl gaskets are brand new. And the fact that I got it to clear up a little bit by removing the...

I think it is the Taylor wires. This weekend I removed all the wires, then I cleaned the dielectric grease out of them As best as I could by spraying carb cleaner on some q-tips and wiping them out. Some of the wires had too much in them even though all I did was put a small dab on the inside of...

I appreciate the link, I will do my best to follow the reccomended route. I might have to buy some more clips and holders. I have heard of the issue you are describing and seen the tsb online. I think oldmanmopar is on to something with the wires. What’s funny is I had this issue and I bought another set of Taylor’s to replace the ones I had, the same exact set wires in fact the Thundervolt 8.2mm Black Taylor’s. The idle smoothed out for about a week when I put the brand new set of...

The wires are routed as far away as they can be and in their own individual looms. Carburetor power valve is an 8.5hg, idles with 20hg of vacuum in park and Idles with 15hg of vacuum in gear. I just checked for vacuum leaks again tonight and I can’t find any, I’ve sprayed carb cleaner along the...

I’ve experimented with the timing, I’ve had it as low as 32 and as high as 36, I’ve tried different initial timing settings from 14-20.
