Wiper switch circuit breaker and a jolt

1964 dart, push button, auto. Recently reassembled the dash with new wire harness.....only driven car half dozen times, but last time I got a good jolt when I lifted the park lever. While trying (unsuccessfully, of course) to reproduce this apparent short, I could hear a very faint sound that...

Another "where does this bit go?" post

This spring was hanging on my '64 dart gas pedal, in storage. Assuming it goes with the pedal, how does it mount? A picture would be a great gift for my birthday next week. Almost ready to return to the road after the fire 3 years ago. Thanks

[Found!] odometer wheel set 63-66 dart/val

Hi, I just need the odometer wheels. Its the set on the right in picture. Note 67 and up (on left) will not work. Would be nice if you could spin the speedo (by hand or drill) and verify that the tenths wheel engages and moves the 'ones" wheel. The plastic gearing inside can be broken. THanks...

    Odometer interchangeability

I have a 64 Dart speedometer/odometer, with a broken odometer wheel. I know 68 (67 and up?) odometer wheels are not the same as 64, would a 66 odometer work in a 64? Thanks

reading the slant six plugs color

This picture is of the plugs of my slant, freshly rebuilt, 1800 miles of break in. It has a calculated 9:1 compression, split exhaust, Carter 1 bbl, running 10 deg advanced. I noticed it sometimes runs on 2-4 chugs after turning off. Maybe once every ten turn offs. I use 89 octane. Anyone...

[FOR SALE] 69 Valiant pass headlight bezel

I'm pretty sure this is the pass. side. I don't think it would fit later models. The anodizing is still pretty good. Black marks on picture show small scratches, or rubs where the grey paint is rubbed off. There is a long scratch (lower right and last picture) that is visible at some angles...

Is this wiper motor park switch functional?

This is a variable speed wiper motor. Per the FSM tests, the motor runs, but nothing happens when I test for park function. This picture shows exactly how the plastic parts and contacts were when I opened the motor. Can anyone tell me: Does the smaller plastic part rotate or just the...

    pushbutton vs later wire harnesses

Is there that much difference between an auto trans pushbutton wiring harness vs a 65-66 ? For that matter would there be much rewiring to take a manual trans wiring harness and use it for an automatic, (pushbutton or the 65 66?). Thanks

    64 speedo pinion seal help

I got a new speedometer pinion seal. The manual is a bit ambiguous about its placement, saying, the lip needs to point at the cable. The cable end, or the cable in the housing?? THis is how I tried to install, but the plastic gear is extremely hard to turn. Using my thumb and fore finger...

how to disconnect shift/park cables at button end

Any special tool or technique to un-crimp the metal that crimps the ferrules on the shift and park cables as seen in this pic? I searched here but got tired of looking. THan s for looking.

    Chinese bad-dery clamp

You can tell this is a pretty new clamp. I wasn't even trying to take it off. I just moved the cable. I know you can't bend lead too much, but this must be contaminated lead....or poor casting conditions...metallurgists chime in. "I like Chinese........." you may know the song.

    simplifying a test circuit setup

If you need to run voltage from battery to under dash or other place, you can either use lamp cord or this stuff (much smaller gauge) instead of running 2 separate wires for + and -. Doesn't take much space in bottom of tool box. I'd like to have a simple means of attaching it to battery...

    no bbs ball retainer?

Opened my bbs and found the little ball under the accel. pump sitting freely in the bore. Did any early bbs carbs not have the little brass ball retainer? Also, the other check ball that goes in the hole in the second picuture. Should it easily fall out of the hole that the nail is pointing...

making sense of dash cluster connector measurements

I was trying to verify which of the 2 dk blue "Ign 1" wires at the ignition switch goes to the round dash cluster connector, so I can tap into it for a 12 V source for the 5V transistor upgrade. With my multimeter on the 20 ohms setting, and one meter probe stuck in at the 2-dk blue wires of...

    5V conversion help needed

Hi, I put together one of the transistor/capacitor 5V convertor tricks for my gauges. I hooked it up as in this picture with the input pin attached to the red wire, and output is the orange wire. It puts out 5V. WHen I installed it, I get nothing. Guages were tested and work. Two...

A tally of body styles by year?

Been on this board for some time and have not seen a tally of the different body styles by year. How many 1966 Dart or Valiant wagon owners are out there et c? Is there a way for the administrator to construct a table that we could access and add to ?

drilling out lugs from hub, disc brake upgrade

NOTE: Before you drill out lugs, try to punch each lug out from the front side. I got lucky, and two lugs acutally popped out. (They may have been lugs replaced some time after the car left the factory.) It took 2 hours or more to drill out the remaining 8 lugs from 2 hubs. I used a drill...

scarebird 9 inch conversion leak glitch -a helpful post

Did the Scarebird 9 inch brake conversion. I had a frustrating time trying to figure out why the Celebrity brake caliper-to-Eldorado brake hose connection kept leaking. It ended up being that this particluar set of Eldo brake hoses had a little too much metal near where the hoses bolted to...

    wagon spare tire well insulation

The insulation in this photo comes from a 1997 Taurus I got rid of. I had its wheel well insulation, and its a nice fit for the Dart/Valiant wagons. I had to cut a little off because I have a 205/14 spare that is a bit tight, and would not allow the access cover to completely close.

fit of later carpets in early A bodies

I put this 73 rubber mat in my 64 wagon. I knew the trans hump was going to be too loose - at least it was not the other way around, and too tight. I stuffed exta insulation above the hump, so at least it looks decent The original mat's seat holes do not show. The high beam switch fits well...

pulling crank gear off with crowsfoot puller

I only used 2 bolts with the puller, and the bolt heads barely grab the gear. The copper wire was sufficient to hold the bolt heads from slipping off the gear as I pulled. This is a slant six crank. Don't know if it works on others.

    Carb heat shield Model X

This shield is from sheet steel, and fireplace flue insulation about a half inch (1.2 cm) thick. The insulation holds to the sheet steel with small sheet metal screws and wide washers from below. I attached this assembly to the intake using a small bolts with its head welded to the no. one...

break in continuity when test gas sending unit

Hi, when measuring ohms of the fuel sending unit of my 64 Dart, the ohm readings are a correct 15 and 78 at the far ends of the gauge, but I have to jiggle the float arm to get a steady reading, otherwise the continuity breaks. It's especially hard to get a middle range , or half tank reading...

    Where does this wire go?

Looks like previous owner modified something behind the instrument cluster, adding a ring terminal to this wire, in foreground. Anyone have an idea where it should go? It is a wire original to the harness, a paler blue than the one you can see behind it with the wire bundle. Neither wire has...
