A plug for Collector Car Insurance in British Columbia

I want to give a huge "thumbs up" to a Collector Car Insurance Broker in Vancouver that may interest other FABO members here in British Columbia. Back in November, I had a little “tree problem” with my Duster that required a claim under my Collector Car policy. You never know what your insurance...

    Remember Don Cherry?

Fellow Canadians: Almost a year ago, Don Cherry was crucified by the Media and the usual gang of "do-gooders" over his remarks regarding concerns that a large percentage of the immigrant population failed to observe a proud Canadian tradition of wearing poppies in observance of Remembrance day...

    2 destroyed starters in a row...WTH?

I have recently suffered 2 broken starters, both times with teeth taken off of the ring gear. The first time was last October with 6,600 carefree KM on a new 408 powertrain. At the time, I assumed that a tooth must have broken off of the starter gear, in turn breaking a tooth off of the ring...

    Flexing a Flex Plate?

408, 727, Hughes Performance 3000 Torque Converter, B&M Flex Plate. I am in the process of replacing my Torque Converter with an identical (?) unit. With the previous Torque Converter inserted into the back of the crank, the mounting pads sat flush against the Flex Plate no problem. Now when...

The latest "what is this?" thread

I pulled my rotor off to have a closer look, and underneath it kind of stuffed into the center shaft was a small piece of felt about 1/4"x1/2". The second picture below wasn't taken right at that moment, it's a forensic re-creation of how I think I remember it looked. Curious as to...

    Another Ammeter bypass question:

When connecting these 2 wires together to bypass the Ammeter, I am thinking of just connecting the 2 ring connectors with a bolt, (or a steel rivet?) and heat shrinking it. (Little faith in my soldering skills). Is there any downside to this approach? Thanks FABO!

    Advanced Corn on the Cob...

So, after 50+ years of eating corn on the cob the hard way (peeling, plucking all the stubborn hairs off, dealing with the mess etc.) my buddy showed me this technique. Maybe everyone knows this but me, but in case you dont: Microwave an ear "as is" for 2 minutes (depending on the wattage of...

No, PST doesn't always resolve problems satisfactorily

I am prompted to post this email chain I had with PST after another "PST Concerns" thread was abruptly closed by a moderator. I had purchased their Greasable Pivot Shafts and when I received them they simply didn't fit into either of the 2 K-Frames I have. Period. This problem was also...

    Mounting a stock shroud on a Champion 22" radiator - 73 Duster

I recently installed a stock shroud (P/N 2998325) on my Champion 22" 3 row radiator (CC526). To achieve the best fit possible, it took a fair bit of trimming and massaging. Thought I would share my approach for others thinking of doing the same: Step 1 was to cut the shroud into 2 pieces. This...

My Blueprint crate engine story - May 2018

There has been much discussion over Blueprint crate engines here on FABO. Last summer I said that I would report back on my actual Blueprint experience once the engine was up and running, good or bad. The engine is running, and the verdict is GOOD. REAL GOOD. I now have about 300 miles on my...

Breather hose to aftermarket Air Cleaner

Just picked up a 14" drop base Air Cleaner. Want to connect my breather hose to the drop base, which is stamped in 2 places for a fitting or filter (?) of some type. Only lead I could find on FABO was that an "old Ford" filter would work but no specifics. Looking for ideas / solutions that are...

Brake line too close to header tube?

My #7 header tube is sitting about 1/4" from my rear main brake line, along the frame rail just behind the distribution block. Is this likely to cause problems? Would wrapping the brake line with woven thermal protection be good enough?

Temp sender into Aluminum Tranny Pan

Going to be tapping an NPT hole in my Aluminum Tranny pan for a temperature sender. Speedhut supplied an adapter (3/8" NPT) to use with the Sender (1/8" NPT). I'm wondering if it is better to use the adapter with the sender or just use the sender by itself. Concerns are: optimal depth of sender...

Lokar Kickdown, Stock Throttle Cable, Holley Carb

    Barbed fittings: Good or bad?

Barbed fittings appear to be everywhere; certainly more available than OEM stuff. Do they work? I don't want to assemble everything (heater hoses, Fuel lines, remote Oil Filter) and have a bunch of leaks when I fire up the new engine. What about the gear-type hose clamps, would they help or...

Proper function of an Idler Arm?

'73 Duster. I put my steering back together the other day, so put in a new Idler Arm that I had on the shelf from when I bought a front end kit a while back. Slip Yoke for a 727?

I am trying to source a slip yoke for my new 727. It has a 30 spline output shaft. My 8 3/4 takes a 7290 U Joint so I was looking to do the same thing at the front end of the driveshaft. I thought this would be straightforward, but the only piece I can find is at Jegs - an Inland Empire...

    Pitman Arm removal ??

'73 Duster, Manual Steering box. The puller I have is too narrow to fit over this Pitman arm, so I've been trying to get it off with my 12 ton shop press.
