[WANTED] 273 Commando dress up parts

It’s got the 4 speed. It’s a Hurst I think they all were. Good idea I’ll pull the valve covers and get the casting numbers.

[WANTED] 273 Commando dress up parts

Looking for the air cleaner and valve covers. Also might be interested in the intake manifold, carb and possibly a set of heads. So I should back up here a bit. The car is a 65 Barracuda from the AZ / CA area that is a really clean "survivor" car with no apparent rust. It has what I believe it...

    273 Mystery Motor

So my strategy: It seems both the 2BBL and 4BBL pistons can handle the Isky E-4 cam. If I replace the current cam with E-4 and appropriate solid lifters, pushrods and adjustable rockers I should be good to go, correct? I just have to be careful to use the 66 pushrods due to the block stamping...

    273 Mystery Motor

Junkyard the motor was running good, I took it in for PM. The same shop had my 67 earlier and went through it, got it back in a week and it was a much better car for it. They addressed a number of niggly issues. So I thought I'd have them at least look at the valve adjustments on my 65.

    1965 Barracuda shift counsel

Can any one tell me if this Hurst floor shift pattern was a stock item? I've looked at any number of first gen Barracuda interiors and never seen it. Sure looks like it could be stock though.

    273 Mystery Motor

Just over 4 years ago I purchased a 1965 Barracuda that is a very clean Tucson car. It was advertised as having a Commando motor. I was suspicious of that, but the price was right and it's been a very fun 4 speed driver. Last fall I took it to a good Mopar shop here in Green Bay for a valve...

    Custom 67-69 Barracuda cluster/gauges ?

Hi MonkeyTrev - what did you decide on? I too am looking to replace the factory gauges on my 67 notchback and could find nothing online. If you can share what you did on Speedhut - specs and pics - it would be very helpful to me. Thank you

No fuel...likely the pump but not sure

Yesterday I finally had the time to swap out the old Carter fuel pump with a brand new one. Started right up, easier than ever. Runs awesome. Took me 2 hours for what prolly should be a 30 minute job for a good wrench. But the results were great, and that's a major win for me. Many thanks...

No fuel...likely the pump but not sure

OK I checked the fuel filter and it was clean as clean can be. I disconnected the lower fuel line and fuel was leaking out as soon as it became loose. Evidently plenty of fuel line and /or pump. Seems like the pump needs a rebuild / replacement. Any other trouble shooting I should do first...

No fuel...likely the pump but not sure

My 67 resto mod Barracuda is not getting fuel. It wants to start with starter fluid / gas in the carb but won't run. Tomorrow I am going to make sure it has gas in the tank and check the fuel filter. IF it still won't start Id like ideas on what else to try. I suspect it is the fuel pump but...

    273 Commando redline

Yes it is a Q-Jet. I thought they had a pretty bad rap though some say undeserved. Plus I thought they were a GM carb. I have to say the car runs pretty good though.

    273 Commando redline

So I detailed the car this weekend and took it out for a spin. Still pulling hard at 5000. Lost my nerve after that. The motor has an Offenhauser intake and headers (ceramic coated?) of unknown make (see pics) and an MSD ignition. Assuming the internals are stock any guesses if the power band is...

    273 Commando redline

What a difference leaving out a word makes. I think I'll limit it to 6k. Or have a custom gauge face made so it can go to "11"

    273 Commando redline

I have a 1965 Barracuda very original with what I believe to be a 1966 Commando in it, I mean I believe it is a 1966 motor from the block castings and similarly dated heads. It is not a Formula S car and there is factory tach (I have since added a period correct looking Sun tach). Simple...

    deciphering my new 65 Barracuda

Thanks YY11, this is the kind of feedback I was looking for. When former owner told me about the dark blue primer I assumed he knew this is what the factory used. However I did not ask....anybody else? Also I assume that a little overspray and perhaps a little excess paint was typical of...

    deciphering my new 65 Barracuda

UPDATE ANSWER and NEW MYSTERY - I was able to speak with the prior-long term (15 years) owner of this car. He believes this car lived most it's life on the Arizona / California border. He directed me to a number of car show stickers under the trunk lid, all from border towns. Back in February on...

    deciphering my new 65 Barracuda

Looked at the paperwork in the glove box, a correct owner's manual is in there with service records for a different VIN so it must have been found a swap meet or something, and placed with the car. There is a certi-card riveted to the inside of the glove box door but no VIN or other info. The...

    deciphering my new 65 Barracuda

Thanks to everyone who took the time to read and respond. The knowledge and helpfulness of FABO members is amazing. So many great points are raised, I'll try to hit them all and then provide a conclusion. Pishta the car has a Be Cool radiator so the support is gone. No info there but gotta...

    deciphering my new 65 Barracuda

Last September I picked up a 65 Barracuda and I'm trying to figure out exactly what I have. The car is in nice condition and appears very original but who really knows on a 50 year old vehicle. The price was right no matter what, my desire for info is for curiosity not value. The fender tag...

    Speedometer not working

i just recently purchased a 1965 Barracuda with the 273 Commando. The speedo is not functioning - all zeros on the clock. Where do I start with diagnosis and repair?

    fuel sender gauge gasket

Very helpful 69conv - great tips. I just ran the car a bit and the fuel is now below the sending gasket so leaking until I get the gasket. BTW I got the breather element off by pulling it to the side and it popped off. Had to put lot of pressure on it but it was the answer.

    fuel sender gauge gasket

That why I’d like to buy the special tools - no sparks. A couple more questions: 1) can anyone tell me where to put oil in this motor? The breather element does not twist off it just spins 2) what’s with the sign? I fill it it up with premium and a full can of octane booster. Is that good enough?

    fuel sender gauge gasket

All great info, so glad I posted. I'll re-use the old retainer. I'd also like to buy the tool to make it easier. Are they readily available at any auto parts store?
