    Gets hot and stalls out

I am leery of header wrap as I toasted a set of headers on of all things my '88 Dak with a 125 HP V6. I wrapped them to keep the heat out of the engine compartment but in about 3 months, the totally fell apart flaking rust all over the place and naturally massive leaks. Edelbrock said that...

Update! The 'Cuda is out for alignment and should be ready to drive tomorrow. So far, all looks good for it to be finished early next week. Will update after I see the car tomorrow. Maybe a video.

how strong is the 8 3/4 #741 case?

I ran my '68 'Cuda FB FS at the strip well over 350 times (at one point I had all the timing slips) and turned 13.50's @ 105. All on the original 8 3/4 with 3.55's. With 220,000 miles on it now, all is fine. Just change oil regularly and keep the u-joints lubed and tight.

    Gets hot and stalls out

What was the diagnostics on the last failure to start? Fuel in the carb? Fuel in the filter? Spark? If it cranks, it isn't the alternator. I wonder if there is a heat soak issue with the distributor pickup, but checking for spark will settle that issue. There has to be a root cause for...

    Electronic ignition upgrade.

From what I have read and experienced with my 340 for 54 years is that ignition timing and advance curve are paramount to a good running engine. Once the spark is stable at all RPM's the engine will see, the power is in the timing curve. The 340 seems to like 34° mechanical advance for best 1/4...

    Gets hot and stalls out

I really like the see-through filter, but the risk is that they are plastic and can crack. I had them on my '66 Belvedere 426 Hemi once. I was driving to the Post Office then to work when I saw flames coming out of the shifter boot. Oh ****! Pulled into the Post Office parking lot and shut...

Here is a picture of Steve Brown's '67 Vert as it sits in Vashon Island when I picked up my 340 from him. We worked on the gas tank and pickup when I was there and also did some brake work but it needed KH calipers which were on order. Did a compression test on the engine and it was OK for 50...

I really liked that '67 383. I put a lot of effort into the engine and it ran perfectly. I got it to idle down to 400 RPM when pulling up the driveway. It even passed 1980 smog standards when I registered it. I am glad it went to a home where it was appreciated. I kick myself for having to...

I couldn't get the pullies to line up with the E-Heads. I have only 1/4" clearance between the alternator and head with the alternator spaced out for the '70+ WP. I wonder if Edelbrock changed the machining in some way. I simply don't have 3/4" room between the head and alternator as it is...

Ron, This is exactly what my car looked like 55 years ago. Cragars and all. Except for the Formula S emblem. Mine had the Finned hood inserts and not the 340-S inserts. I think that was do to front end damage before I got the car. A few hidden issues showed up during restoration indicating...

340S Fastback, I was considering the conversion to a Tremec trans for a long time but couldn't justify the floor pan mods and trans crossmember cutting on a car that essentially had no damage or rust in that area. So some recommended a GearVender, but I need to see exactly how that installs...

Part Nine--Finishing the Car The car is almost done. We got the seats in and found that the tracks were worn. I had '73 Dart Sport seats in the car since about 1975. The tracks starting that year had nylon runners holding the rollers and balls in place. They disintegrated and fell apart when...

    Gets hot and stalls out

Long thread and someone probably already covered this, but I would look for the root cause of the problem at the time that it happens. Check the fuel system for flow. Accelerator pump should squirt fuel. If not, the bowls are dry. There should be spark. If not, the problem is electrical...

    Parting out A-Bodies

I got real lucky with my build. I talked to AMD when they had a sale on '68 rear quarter panels. I got the last set they had before going to the generic version without running light holes. AMD installed them and the rear valance all for a reasonable price. Shipping the car from Denver to...

    Are 340’s rare

I have to admit that the 340 has mystique, but I realize that any engine can be built to the same HP/CI level with appropriate parts. So a 360 will be better than a 340 and the 360 block is actually stouter than the 340 when pushed to the limit. But what cannot be replaced is the memories of...
