High Comp 318 Build With Edelbrock Heads

So I took the ute on a massive roadtrip recently to Queensland. It was 1800km each way and the 318 ran beautifully, except when the voltage regulator failed and fed 18v in the system frying the distributor. It also fried a bunch of wiring under the dash, I managed to find a distributor and new...

Only 9.20 on the 1/8, it picks up the pace after that.

High Comp 318 Build With Edelbrock Heads

Just a little update. The little 318 is still going strong, but the car needs a converter and gears to take full advantage of the cam. I took it for a run last weekend and the 60-foot could have been timed with a sundial, but ultimately it went 13.98 at 102.8mph with a 2.42 60-foot. I reckon a...

    Oil pump priming issue

As long as you know that the right way is the wrong way on a big block. As in the pump turns anti-clockwise on a big block.

    Oil pump priming issue

I looked at doing it that way but it seemed high risk (dropping the plug) and very difficult. For me it was literally easier to pull the intake and I got the whole think back together in a few hours.

    Oil pump priming issue

Well I'd already run the engine for 20mins so it was all in the sump. I did wack some more lube on the cam before I dropped the intake back on though.

    Oil pump priming issue

Update - Put the gallery plug in as suggested, got the manifold back on and everything together and she's got all the oil pressure in the world (funny that). Now for some tuning and dyno time. Hopefully we'll see 300rwhp+

    Oil pump priming issue

Thanks for the tip mate, love the hex socket and wrench combo How did you discover that you forgotten it? I found out after I fired the engine up. It had oil pressure but lower than I'd like. Bedded cam in and engine oil got warm and oil pressure suddenly dropped to nothing so I shut it down...

    Oil pump priming issue

It's in the vehicle, I've already pulled the intake and I'm confident I'll get it done without pulling the engine. Just having a lunch break first. My back is killing me from bending over the fenders all morning.

Thanks everyone. Now to see if I can install plug without having to take intake off

    Oil pump priming issue

Holy ****! I didn't even see that plug! And yep with have a winner! On first glance it looked like oil was coming up through the shaft, but I just checked and it's actually coming through that hole.

    Oil pump priming issue

Definitely going right way. I know the plug you're talking about and I don't think it has an exit near the oil pump drive hole, it runs parallel to it up to the oil gauge sender hole

904/999 Starter and Flexplate issue solved

As an update to this. I fired my 318 up yesterday and can confirm that the starter and flex plate combo I have at the moment worked fine.

904/999 Starter and Flexplate issue solved

I think you're right. It makes sense to standardise them and the 7/16 pattern in the same diameter as the small 5/16 pattern. Which means it won't cause interference issues with the starter.

    Oil pump priming issue

So I was using a drill on my 318 to prime the oil pump and oil is gushing up through the oil pump drive hole. I've done dozens of small blocks and never seen this before. As everyone knows the pump is literally bolted into rear main cap from the bottom with the drive flange basically press...

904/999 Starter and Flexplate issue solved

That is interesting. I guess whoever made your a-999 converter used the 727 bolt pattern. Or vice versa.

904/999 Starter and Flexplate issue solved

But what I'm asking is, is your flex plate multi drilled. Does it have more than four holes for the converter bolts?

904/999 Starter and Flexplate issue solved

904 converters tend to use the small bolt pattern, 727 uses the bigger bolt pattern. But many flexplate manufacturers are making flexplates double drilled for both and claiming one size fits all, which it doesn't. Did you use the same holes on the flexplate for your 999 and 727 converters?

904/999 Starter and Flexplate issue solved

The problem is that these flexplates are advertised as being suitable for 904 and 727. So people buy them for their 904s and find out that the flexplate hits the starter. I'm just sharing the solution.

High Comp 318 Build With Edelbrock Heads

Hi guys, so I've been building a little 318 Mopar engine recently and hopefully it'll go as good as it looks. Edelbrock were very good to me and supplied a whole bunch of parts for the build. The aim is to make around 400hp with this little unit. I made a series of youtube videos chronicling...

904/999 Starter and Flexplate issue solved

Hey guys, so I've been putting together a tough 318 recently that's mated to a A-999 and I've had a few interference issues with flex plates and starters. I've chronicled some of this on our youtube channel - Streetmachinetv After researching the problem here a bit (be cause this is always the...

    Leaking from head bolts

Can confirm that the '82 model 318 I'm doing at the moment has head bolts in to the water jacket. Freaked me out at first because I'm used to early 70s small blocks. This early 80s engine has so many minor differences.

    an A body wagon

Thanks for the interest guys. Yeah the Carnage A-body wagon is mine. Been a member here for a while but only visit infrequently. Got some big plans for the wagon. Those who are more up to date with the project will know that it's getting a late model Hemi v8 and has recently been mini-tubbed

    Three piece headlining kit??

okay so it turns out I was just being paranoid and the headlining was right. We bought a second headliner off ebay and it certainly looked more correct. I found an interior place nearby and took both headliners to them. We laid out the year one kit first and then laid the second one over the...

    Three piece headlining kit??

My main issue (besides these boards) is the headliner is the wrong shape as well. There should be two wings of material for the C-pillars but it seems to just be a massive rectangle.
