Crossover Tube and Valve Spring Pressure Questions

This. You have plenty of spring imo. My buds 340 crossed the finish line a hair over 7k with a similar setup. 273 rockers and ran a Torker to boot. :) As far as the oil mods, as long as have 6qt+ oil capacity, i don't think it's needed.

Loud pop and sputter on WOT? 68 318 Barracuda

SMH......No one has asked how stock or old the short block is. Can you say timing chain?

Low speed torque and driveability ?

Aren't all these posted torque charts run at WOT? To me, drivability means nice/smooth bottom end acceleration with the least amount of throttle opening. I'm still sticking with my ''big inch/long arm theory.....:)

    Demon non-option question

My Uncle bought a new red 71' 198ci in Maryland that mirrors yours almost exactly except it was a 3spd.

Low speed torque and driveability ?

Imo, big cube long stroke engines with mild cams deliver the best compromise. Anyone that's driven the older stock GM 455's knows what i'm talking about. Since we're talkin A bodies, i'd build a 9 to 1 low deck BB with a 4'' plus crank, iron heads, 220ish cam and the regulation bolt ons with a...

    Gets hot and stalls out

Try and borrow one or get a cheap stock replacement to test before buying a good one.....if you really think that could be the problem. P.S. Just saw the pic in your welcome thread. Absolutely beautiful car...

For the guys that like to play with numbers.

Probably has a 245 head on it. Love to see the piston dome. Gotta love those willing to put that money into a Sportsman build these days.

    Plum Crazy or Citron Yella?

Buy the one that has the most original parts and the least amount of rust. Both are rare these days.

Will the 7576 intake fit a stock 318 with stock 318 heads

Fit...Yes. There will be some port mismatch, still a nice gain over a stock 2bbl intake.

Did that thing have a smog pump and adj. rockers...wow

Did They Make Square Bore AVS Carbs Made That Only Had The Small Bolt Pattern On The Base Plate?

I believe all the AFB/AVS carbs had similar base plates. You may need to look at the real early WCFB's if that's important to you.

I'd start at .040 if it was mine. 45 should be fine thou.

    64 barracuda 273

If the 67's are 920 castings, they have equivalent chambers to your stock heads. No perf benefit, but allows the use of any small port late intake.

    PCV VALVE LOCATION

What intake do you have. Some have a port on a runner. Not perfect, but better then nothing.

    Low peak oil pressure

I'd look at the remote filter. Years ago a bud with a 428 Fairlane lost around 30lbs after installing one.

    1974 Dart 440 tuning help

What list number carb do you have. Don't remember the 4780 having a secd PV. Regardless, your way light on the secd jet.

    very mild 360 build.

I was leaning towards the Oregon, but just remembered you're using the low gear set so i would go with the MP myself as i believe it would give a little more mid range torque. Just throwing out another opinion.:)

    Should I buy this 440?

Do you have plans for it. I wouldn't get it to stick under the workbench. Looks like the pass side valve cover has been off.....maybe looking for sludge/damage. Like said before, if it spins, probably a good deal.

Just a quick post on why as a head porter I like solid aluminum spacers over two inch ones.

Love your work John. As a complete novice on intake porting, what would happen if you shortened the dividers a bit.

    Cam change?

Guessing it's a small tire car. How much rpm are you missing on the big end. Maybe retard the current cam a bit to knock down the hit and give a few rev's up top. Then again if you're cyl head limited, while that new cam may raise the peak power, i'm not sure you will gain much for average power...

Very cool. We get a few similar out of Joint base Charleston now and then about 5 miles from us that i can't identify, but love watching them go by.

    Factory high stall converter

70' 340 Duster....Factory installed converter with stock engine other then a Hemi grind cam and 750 carb, foot braked to 2200. May have flashed a hair more.

How much drag should there be rotating my rear wheel in neutral. My brakes are not dragging

Of course there will be some drag.....spinning the r&p and driveshaft. Curious the reason/problem why you're asking?

Engine Quest Dodge Magnum Heads New Zealand castings.

To give you a little bump..... I'm no expert with Magnums, but i believe the NZ castings were superior before they moved to China. That said, if i recall, the intake ports were in the 170ish range. Not sure what your goals are, but 400hp with a 360 is easily available. Now 500 would take some...

    Maybe I've learned a good lesson . . .

I think you could teach some a lesson. :) Your original build is about spot on imo. First off, that car with a small block is not near as heavy as it looks and makes a good handling ''road'' car. One of my early encounters with Mopars was with a college student neighbors 69' 318 Charger in the...
