what is the deal with my 225 /six compression?

Thanks guys. I will do it in a bit here. With the plugs out. I honestly feel my old carter Carb is just wore out. Even the rebuilt made it run slightly better. But it should not be having a slight damp issue between the top of the carb, and the mid section, where the gasket is supposed to...

what is the deal with my 225 /six compression?

Oh crap!! I know this is an old thread. However, I came across it and realized I did it wrong? I did a compression test, since I have a slight rough idle, and a slight pop out of the tailpipe once in a while, and some black stuff shooting out the tailpipe when starting. It does run a bit rich...

Please bare with me. I am sorry. So try and figure out how to find tdc. Then mark a new white mark on the pulley to where TDC is "now", and then adjust it slightly. I have a dial on my timing light. Could this be why I cannot get the car to quit sputtering, and running rough? Once you hit it...

    I have a Carter, not a Holley?

I agree with you. I have no idea. I was told by quite a few the hole belongs there. Carb is done, tune up done. And my car is still sputtering out the tailpipe, and running a bit rough. But has power. I dunno. I give up! My timing is even out of wack. I couldn't get it to come up on the...

Okay, my friend adjusted my valves and made it look easy. I did bring it home, and later checked my timing. I dunno. The timing mark was not even close to the tab. I turned the indicator on my gun, until it hit TDC, and my gun tells me I am at 32 degrees..... Shoud be at 2 1/2 BTDC...

I was told 67 and back are all the same. I am confused. Some seem to be different. Unless the TDC may be in the same spot on all the from 67 and back.

Thank you!!!! I think I found one local, not sure for a few days. I will get back to you, thanks so much!!! As shown above the one I posted. The number set up looks different? Does that matter? Someone shared that photo with me, and said thats the one I need. I am confused.

Thanks! I just never caught it. I bought it a few weeks ago. And have the carb off for rebuilt. And happened to look down at the area, and saw "nothing there"....:pale:

I wanted to post this here so the slant guys see it

I checked my 1965 Belvedere, slant 6/225 that I just bought, and the Timing Tab Indicator is gone! I don't know what years fit, here's a photo of where it bolts too, and another little hole is needed in the tab. I am sure different years changed the timing degrees on the indicator tabs. If...

    I have a Carter, not a Holley?

Yes, Dan was just explaining that its supposed to be there. Of course, not with a wood screw....Ugh! I will remove the screw. I am just concerned if they en largened the hole now. If that made sense? I don't know how big it is supposed to be.

    I have a Carter, not a Holley?

Its close, but not hitting the plate. I will plug it for sure! JB weld should do the trick!

    I have a Carter, not a Holley?

Good Link!!! I will just remove the screw, and some jb weld. People amaze me! Otherwise, the car has been untouched. I guess they had to do something strange to it.

    I have a Carter, not a Holley?

Okay, so it was hooked up right. That place where the "wood screw" someone put in there, I am going to remove. My kit will be here tomorrow, if I am not brave enough, I may drop it off at the garage on Monday, and let them rebuild it. I watched a youtube clip, didn't look hard, but I dunno! I...

    I have a Carter, not a Holley?

I went up and set the carb on it, to give an idea. Here's where the vac advance is plugged into. It must work, it was screaming up the road, when I gave it throttle. I dunno? I will plug that hole closed the right way.

    I have a Carter, not a Holley?

No, the fuel/air mixture is on the other side up further. I was trying to find it online. The only thing I seen one guy say is a vent hole???

    I have a Carter, not a Holley?

What the heck is this? I was just looking at the bottom of the carb. Looks like someone put a screw into a existing hole. I can tell the hole is stock. But is there supposed to be a screw there? The screw don't look stock.

Thank you! I don't have a carb number to give them. I will check it out.

    I have a Carter, not a Holley?

Thanks very much! He is an older fashioned parts store. He takes the time to look things up. I had a guy rebuild my holley 1920 on my Valiant, and he told me to drop off the Carter, and he will do it. He is pretty good. I don't know if I should try it myself, or let him do it.

    I have a Carter, not a Holley?

I just ordered the kit from the little independent store down the street. He actually takes the time to look in books. He did relook, and said the BBS takes the same kit from 60-71. After relooking, he can't get me a float. Its obsolete. Ugh!! Hope my float is okay.

I rebuilt a lot of solex carbs on Beetles for years. I never tried one of these before.

    I have a Carter, not a Holley?

Your probably right. It is more than likely the original. I am going to order a float too, he had a number for one. I hope that comes with the accelerator pump etc..And it all fits. This kinda sucks. Maybe I should just take the time now, and slam a 2 barrel on it....:)

    I have a Carter, not a Holley?

Your exactly right. I don't know what to do. I am sure its the original carb, and being 60-67 takes the same kit. I should probably chance it.

    I have a Carter, not a Holley?

I just called my local guy, he's an older fashioned parts store. He said he was hoping for the tag. The numbers I gave him were no good that is stamped on the carb itself. He did say that from 1960-1967, the carter one barrels took the same kit. But if mine is not the original carb, I dunno...

    I have a Carter, not a Holley?

Its running extremely rich, and the tail pipe is black. It is sputtering and feels terrible. I figured a rebuild was in order. The tag is missing on the carb for the number. The only numbers I see are stamped on it are: 6-1695 And 0-1611 They are the only thing stamped on the carb. I don't know...

    I have a Carter, not a Holley?

I know my carb needs rebuilt on my 65 Belverdere, I just bought the car. I went up the garage and removed the air cleaner, and its a Carter? Is this a bad thing?? Are they junk carbs compared to the Holley? I don't know what numbers to use, so I took some photos. Am I better off finding a...

    Synthetic Oil Improvement in /6

Hey, thats odd. I got a sale add today from Advance, with Rotella on sale. Isn't that diesel oil, or am I being stupid? Is that okay to run that weight in my slant 6 until I toss my V8 in it next summer?

    Synthetic Oil Improvement in /6

Yeah, more than likely thats what I will be doing for now. Wow, I honestly didn't know it cost that much! Thats a bit high. But then again, I guess you get what you pay for. I see your point. I ran synthetic, and yes it did cause some small leaks in my wife's old Xterra. Now her new 2014...

    Synthetic Oil Improvement in /6

Thanks for the info! I have heard of that Brad Penn oil. Theres a parts store about 30 minutes from me that carries it. I never checked into it. I like the idea of the zinc additive. Could save a little money. I was just on Brad Penn website. It looks as though they do have a very high amount of...
