I agree with the above but want to add to check your rear float level. Also a possible vacuum leak at the rear of the intake. Those rear cork gaskets are tricky and usually need a generious dab of sealer at the corners.

Don't know if it helps but my cardboard liner has been in and out no problem from the front on my 76 Swinger. Have to remove the screws for the door hinge, the cable that holds the door, the latch on the top and the lamp lens cover and socket from inside.
