    1960-1962 Valiant/Lancer thread

Good to see a little activity on this thread, with fresh photos of road toads. Work on my '62 Signet has not progressed at all this year. I've been enjoying a '67 Valiant 100 2-door sedan as my daily driver. It's really plain, with standard steering and brakes and three-on-the-tree, although it...

    help removing instr. cluster

I had the same grief, trying to replace the headlight switch in my '67 Valiant. I tried dropping the steering column, to free the instrument cluster. You're right, though - you don't gain much wiggle room with a 3-on-the-tree shifter. I was finally able to get at the switch but it definitely did...

Replacing door hinge pins and bushings

RANDY, thanks for the photos, very helpful. I'm sure it'll become even clearer when I get a hinge on the bench. You're from Edmonton, too, I see. Cold enough for ya?

Replacing door hinge pins and bushings

I got them from Layson's. Thanks guys for all the quick replies. Sounds like I'm in for a bit of work.

Replacing door hinge pins and bushings

It's a '67 Valiant 2-door sedan. The driver's door lower hinge is saggy, which makes the door hard to close. I've bought replacement hinge pins and bushings but I can't figure out how to install them. Must the hinges be unbolted?

    225 starts but won't run

With a used ballast resistor, my Valiant started and ran like it was a summer day. Thanks for your quick answers.

    225 starts but won't run

Thanks guys. Your answers are so consistent, you've got to be right. Will go hunting for a new ballast resistor and, meanwhile, will try to use the one out of my '62.

    225 starts but won't run

'67 Valiant with 225 and 3 on-the-tree: engine starts with the key in start position but, when you let go of the key, the engine quits. I pulled the ignition switch out of my '62 Valiant and tried it in the '67 but the same problem persists. What's up?

    Windshield Mylar install Question

You're a brave team. Thanks for the inspiration for us owners to tackle this straightforward job ourselves. The only rubber supplier with whom I've dealt is Steele Reproductions. They're really a GM specialist and don't have any glass gaskets for A-body cars (they do offer a trunk lid seal)...

    Windshield Mylar install Question

Thanks everybody. So I'm hearing: - Is the rubber weatherstrip all one moulding or is it in two parts? SINGLE RUBBER MOULDING. - Does the mylar strip lock the rubber weatherstrip and glass in place? YES. - Can the mylar lock strip be replaced without pulling out the rubber and glass? YES. A...

    show me your early A!

Oops, quite right, mine is a second-generation A-body (actually third generation, now that I think about it). It parks next to a '62 Signet, if that counts for anything.

    show me your early A!

Just a solid, honest old lady car that I picked up in Seattle last week. This was basic motoring the year I turned 13. 225 slant six, three-on-the-tree, manual everything, and zero rust. I guess I felt compelled to buy something, after a deal on a cream puff '62 Signet, also in Seattle, couldn't...

    Radiator interchange - '62 to '67 valiant

BILL, thanks for that part number. Having any extra fittings in the cooling system is never a good idea. Now that I've got the car pretty well cleaned up, I'll start another thread for it. It's nothing exciting, just a good, solid LOL car, from back when LOL meant Little Old Lady.

    Windshield Mylar install Question

VALKMAN, I'm listening in here. My '67 Valiant's windshield and back window are in good shape. The rubber seals look okay but the mylar strips are falling apart. Also, I'm missing most of the stainless steel corners and joiner pieces. The shop manual is not real clear about the following: -...

    Radiator interchange - '62 to '67 valiant

The shop did find a new radiator but it wasn't quite right. The lower hose fitting comes straight out, not turned up like on the original. The moulded hose therefore didn't fit and they had to adapt it with a pipe coupling, which caused me two breakdowns on the road. I eventually got home...

    Which one to buy?

Well, I drove my '67 Valiant V100 home from Seattle to Edmonton on the weekend. I had some minor teething trouble with the new cooling system but got that sorted out in the first couple of hundred miles. To be honest, this is a dreary car, almost without any appealing character. The 225...

    Radiator interchange - '62 to '67 valiant

BILL, that's good advice but I also have a '62 Valiant, in which this radiator will be re-installed someday. I'll just be using it temporarily in the '67, to get it home, and will get the original rad rebuilt sometime later. As it turns out, I might not have to take my radiator on the plane...

    Which one to buy?

OH EM GEE, did you have remind be about Duel? From Wikipedia: "stars Dennis Weaver, who plays a terrified motorist stalked on a remote and lonely road by the unseen driver of a mysterious tanker truck." Right up there with Psycho and The Birds in scaring the bejeebers out of me, regarding...

    Which one to buy?

Awful pictures of a sweet car. Just like the one your great aunt drove. Ooo, I just noticed - it has the deeeluxe wheel covers. Sorry about the sideways-ness of the photos. No clue how to fix that.

    Radiator interchange - '62 to '67 valiant

Trouble is, the radiator is with me in Edmonton and the car is in Seattle. I don't know anyone here with a '67 to '71 Valiant or Dart that I can measure. I guess I'll just take the rad with me on the plane as carry-on and hope that I can make it fit when I get there. Happily, it's very light -...

Side note: that perforated vinyl pattern is called "snakebite", which describes it really well.

I seem to have struck a deal on the '67. Will post photos when I'm sure about it.

    Radiator interchange - '62 to '67 valiant

I have a rebuilt radiator for a '62 Valiant that I'd like to install in a '67 Valiant, both being slant sixes. Could someone with a parts manual tell me if these radiators are interchangeable?

    Which one to buy?

One down, one to go. A mechanical inspection showed that the '62 Signet isn't quite as pristine as I'd hoped. The owner is insisting on a show quality price anyway, so I'm letting that one go. Will now make an offer on the '67 V100.

    1960-1962 Valiant/Lancer thread

Hey, 62SIGNET, you mentioned you've got spare parts. Would you have an oil pan to fit a '62 Valiant/Lancer? Also, do you have the throttle linkage for a 225 Slant Six? Because of the extra height of the block, there's a difference in linkage shaft lengths from the 170 that came in my car. Please...

    61 Valiant Toy

Absolutely, leave it just the way it is! It was her own little hand that played with it, banged it into things, and shook the sand out of in the sandbox. Restoring it would erase that embedded history - don't do it. Please display it on a lower shelf, where another generation of children can...

    1960-1962 Valiant/Lancer thread

To the top, again, after a 3-month lull. Road Toads are not on everyone's forum radar, apparently. I'm dealing on another '62 Signet this weekend. This one's gonna put my identical project car on someone else's trailer, if I get it. The prospect is a low mileage creampuff that needs nothing...

    Which one to buy?

Okay, you guys have solved VooDoo's problem - or rather he did with your kibitzing - now what about me? I've got two A-bodies on the block, very different cars though. Valiant A is a '62 Signet: gorgeous, sweet-running survivor car with shiny original paint, straight and rust-free body, and a...

    170 for 225 SWAP - '62 VALIANT

(I did get that "free-to-a-good-home" Valiant and brought it home last month.) I'm taking another leap of faith today. I've found a 225 stationary engine that spent its life connected to a fire pump. For fire code purposes, it was started regularly and run under load for at least an hour...
