    Detonation on 408 Stroker

Hi, I haven't measured the compression, it's just on the stats the engine builder gave me, so no, I can't be certain. Here is what he gave me: 4.030 Bore Piston to Deck .024” (11.5cc) Head Gasket 9cc Head 69cc Total 89.5cc Compression Ratio 10.3:1

    Detonation on 408 Stroker

Thanks for all your inputs guys, I really appreciate it. To answer one question asked, the billet Pertronix dizzy has no vacuum advance Based on your assessments I need to either change the heads, lower the compression ratio or what else?

    Detonation on 408 Stroker

Hi All I have a 73 Duster with a 408 Stroker. Ever since it was built I have been having detonation (ping) and running on when ign is killed. I have gone through 3 different ignition systems 1) Original Mopar 2) MSD 3) Pertronix It works much better with the Pertronix Billet Distributor than...

73 Duster with Cragar V-5 Black Steelies

I think they are Super Stock springs, I have the Mopar Performance part number somewhere, I'll dig it out. I think they are KYB shocks I have on the back.

73 Duster with Cragar V-5 Black Steelies

Hi All I have done away with my slot mags because they didn't look aggressive enough, and I have just fitted Cragar V-5's - brilliant price from Summit as well. These are 10 x 15 rear with 295/50 x 15 and fronts are 8 x 15 with 195/50 x 15. I have Mopar Performance springs on the rear so the...

    Duster Update

Hi Y'all I spent a year in North Carolina, 8 months in Mississippi, and 10 months in Miami. The way you guys speak and spell is often a damn site more sensible than our true English, and so many of our words have double or treble meanings, so I am happy with my balance! I did also spend 18...

    Duster Update

Hi All Sorry it has been so long since I posted. Here is an update on my 73 Duster. Purchased from Chico CA in 2013 Paint was really flat and the 360 was tired, it wouldn't spin the wheels in the dry at all! I used it like this for about 3 years until the engine started breathing heavier than a...

    My new rims and tires

Hi Bob Only just found this thread but love those wheels and aiming to replicate on my 73 Duster. One question, do you have discs or drums on the front? I have just ordered exactly the same spec from summit but wanted to make sure the 8 x 15's would be ok with discs. Thanks Kev

    360 Cylinder Pressures

Hi Guys Sorry it has been so long replying. With the new cam installed the car is a completely different beast, it drives better and lights the tyres much more easily. I have been enjoying using the car hence the lack of posts, and the weather over here has been reasonably good for a...

    360 Cylinder Pressures

Centreline was bang on when we checked. Did not check ignition timing. Car came with Vac advance disconnected and when I did connect it ran like a dog! Did check ignition timing and it was correct to specs. New cam is installed and motor should be ready to fire in 2 weeks (I only get to...

    360 Cylinder Pressures

The Thumpr cam comes in at 2000rpm, the Xtreme Energy one comes in at 1300rpm. We didn't try a second gauge, but 2 Mopar guys over here say the Thump range are useless for anything other than an unstable idle, and the cam is the problem coupled with the 360's relatively low compression...

    360 Cylinder Pressures

Hi The cam IS the problem and the Xtreme Energy one I am installing is part number: 20-222-3 as recommended by a Mopar tuner over here. Thanks for all your inputs guys. Cheers Kev

    360 Cylinder Pressures

Hi Everyone and Happy New Year! Just thought I would post an update now I have started the cam swop. The cam that I have removed is a Comp Cams item from the Thumpr series, part number: 20-600-4, with an Intake duration of 279 and an Exhaust duration of 296, and a rev range of 2000-5800...

    360 Cylinder Pressures

Hi Guys Thanks for your comments, it does seem odd that all are that low. I do believe that unknown lumpy cam could be part of the problem, but I'll redo the test with the squirt of oil and let you know the results. Thanks again. Kev

    360 Cylinder Pressures

Hi All I have a question (and I think I know the answers) but I would appreciate your opinions. My 73 Duster 360 has a few issues I want to deal with. 1) It refuses to spin the wheels 2) Its averaging 14mpg 3) It seems to be breathing a little heavy other than that it runs perfectly...

Direct or specific fit headers a body

Hi All I have a 73 Duster with those ground smacking headers on, the low part is now virtually flat on mine. The ones I am thinking of using are these from Hedman: Appreciate thoughts and ideas. Failing that I am going to try and find some standard 360 exhaust manifolds. Kev
