    408 kit

Corey, he asked about kits, not cams.... not heads, not about 1/4 drag racing and your buddy with a magnum...which again, another something he didnt ask about. Anyone whos really in this game 'not just writing checks to builders' knows there isnt a kit out there with less than 9 something to...

    408 kit

scat kit or ohio crankshaft kit, to simplify bolt on's like balancers and swapping trans/convertors you can have it internally balanced for an extra 250-300, but its not a must do thing at all.

273ci--a keeper in my 64 Dart GT 4-speed?

its hard to wanna build the 273 when it costs the same moeny to build a 318 , 340, 360...EXCEPT that the 273 pistons cost WAY more than the 318,340,360 pistons do...so in reality side by side it costs more to build a 273. If you build the 273, the best bang for your buck will be porting the...

    Up Grades on Stroker-Suggestions

With a shorter arm, being the stroke makes that rod ratio shrink, the the piston is pulling on the int port sooner, thinking like this could lead to advocating low lift flow and keeping the lift lower than one would tend to steer towards. or *Roller cam* lol Bigger rod ratio pulls on the int...

'Pop's Engine' another 440 on the dyno.

good numbers, sad about the way your dad passed without being able to enjoy his finished work. Yeah the distributor with 40 degrees isnt very good.lol The numbers you have are pretty good with a 2.08. nice work.

W2 Head Flow Numbers - Need Advice

Yes, it picks up around 18-20 cfm with a pipe on the exhaust. 240 on the exhaust and 275 on the intake, thats no good.

    Up Grades on Stroker-Suggestions

Fact is that you have a decently matched combo, as in any larger of this or that and you'd have a domino effect of necessitated changes. The exhaust isnt the ideal, but for the cams rpm/cid...its actually making the cut. The heads have more in them, change the cam and the exhaust yes tti would...

    Adopted

My take on this is that its a 400 dollar motor, the good deal part go's out the window once you start tearing into it. Next thing you know you see things that make you wanna start over because you like many might not have the experience and or experienced eyes to know what you are looking at and...

Single Plane or Dual Plane? The Great debate!

The booster is about 1/2-3/4 long, the runners are about 12 inches. Which one do you think will carry velocity longer? If the booster was in the port window maybe you'd have something :)

magnums on a cast crank 340????

Like the same people who put rhs heads on their 340?
  17. Hebrews10:26

magnums on a cast crank 340????

This above. Too much "gotta have a steel crank" bs flying around here... You can raise the compression to 13.5 with a cast crank if one wants to, no big wow.

    318 cam and heads help

Skip what Hughes says. No machine work, as long as you bench grind .030 off the retainers lock bore...lol That's the only thing that makes sense for what happened. And thunk about it...the exh lobe is taller and over .500 advertised. Just mock it up and turn the crank by hand , once at full...

Single Plane or Dual Plane? The Great debate!

Air speed, stronger signal=win in the tq depot. The single plane can flow more air , but the air is lazy.

Fixing vs. Buying a New Engine / 273

First, buy the the 340. Second, just pull the head on the bad hole and just reman it. Might cost a whole 150-250 bucks.

    Valve Shrouding Q's

The 409 heads did flow well, particular castings flowing near 270cfm. Only thing was...the flame travel sucked, no chamber, and then again chambers can help flow to begin with. Crower made pistons to help the combustion travel, but in the end it wasn't enough.
  22. Hebrews10:26

    Valve Shrouding Q's

With valve to chamber shrouding you need to be careful. If you unshroud near an area already boarderlining turbulence, you can push it over the edge and lose higher lift flow.

    new cam... what's your opinion?

I run a solid roller, its night and day . Flat tappet cams full lift is a blip compared to a roller which I why you see guys run so much lift with a flat tappet when with a roller you don't need all that lift because you don't need to depend on open/close ramp so much for cyl filling. The...

    First engine build.

Good idea. I know you get a real good deal on 1.94/1.60 11/32 valves about anywhere. If you do stay with 3/8 stems and 1.88's, ask the machinist if there is enough valve left for a back cut. As for those 3/8 1.60's...stock replace versions are titanic in weight and have the worst underhead stem...

4 inch stroker cam size question

To directly answer the op question, we might need to know how much compression does this motor have. Though if you were to tailor the compression to the cam, backwards, and consider the gearing... A cam in the low/mid 240's @.050 with 278-282 duration on a 110 lobe with lift around 520-.530
  28. Hebrews10:26

What spark plugs are you guys running in your 408 strokers?

Which what I was trying to convey, its not brand that really matters a whole lot, its heat range vs compression and readablility. A gold/silver finish plug will be easier to read. ....And a plug that's too cold a range will foul.
