Pressure in new tank- found out why

Yeah well, that may be true in this instance, But, the vapor canister is about as maintenance free as it gets, it keeps my garage from stinking, keeps my 87E10 from going stale in the tank right away, the vapors may contribute to mpgs, and, I always have at least one or two kicking around anyway.

You could always install a vapor canister and make it a closed system.

    Redressing a controversial subject...

I highly recommend the big yellow square-top Accell Super coil. Mine operates from an easy running rpm of 500 to 7500 without a hick-up, and car has gone 93 mph in the Eighth with it. And has been on the car since 2002 at least. If I pull the coilwire out during cranking, it looks like I could...

[WANTED] A Pair Of 1.03 Torsion Bars

Kindof depends on your definition of mushiness. I would start by inspecting the Unibody. and especially the aprons to frame and firewall welds. and don't forget the rockers. You may need some frame connectors. And don't overlook the fact that she's a convertible, with a 55 year old body. the...

    Question on rear wheel sizes

I have always loved the looks of those 2-dr cars. and I have always wanted one. But If I had one, the absolute first thing I would do is install tubs big enough to accept at least 275s on at least 10s, 295s on 11s would be better. and then a narrowed rear end, and for sure, slapper bars, and...

    518 Screech in neutral

Packed up is when all the friction material of a certain clutch-pack, goes into the oilpan, and the resulting all steels, weld together in a "pack". Thus the clutch is no longer a clutch at all, but a "direct-drive". I have also seen this happen when a builder drops the front stack into the...

AFAIK; If your lock-up is coupled by an electrical switch, then it can only be decoupled by the same switch. But I do not have the hydraulic circuit map to prove it. But It's easy enough to prove. Just get the rear wheels up off the ground, get her up to 30/35 mph in Drive, and hit the lockup...

    318 cam suggestions

Rusty, by now you should know better. By your knocking me down every chance you get, it shows one of three, maybe four things; 1) you ain't no Christian brother to me, and 2) maybe your sliderule is a lil rusty, or yur just too lazy, or too disinterested in helping a fella spend his money in...

    318 cam suggestions

The alloy heads when combined with a tight quench, will support very high cylinder pressure on pumpgas . Good luck getting there with flat-tops and a 340 cam. It will never happen. See Note-1 If you ignore the pressure possibility, the guy in the next lane with an identical set up but pushing...

    Intake manifold questions

    518 Screech in neutral

Well yeah if you come to a stop with the lock-up still manually engaged, that clutch is gonna have to complain about it, and screeching would be the logical mode of complaint, as it was never designed to be powerful enough to stall the engine...........

    Advice needed on manifold repair

You've been here long enough, and have posted enough non-troll stuff, that there is not much chance anyone is gonna consider you a troll. As to your intake, I have never seen one damaged like that, so I would be asking questions too. I have seen the power of freezing water do other damage, but...

    518 Screech in neutral

IDK: mustabin the low-oil warning system.......... Somebody had to say it, lol. Seriously IDK. In neutral, there are only two regulator valves operational; 1) the main regulator, which reduces the line pressure down from whatever the pump is generating, down to about 55psi. and 2) the...

    [WANTED] 2.76 open differential 741 or 742 case, 8 3/4 axle

If your looking to better the fuel economy of an already hopped up engine, with "a bit of a cam in it", I got some Bad news James. Any SBM with a bit of a cam, that has already been optimized for fuel economy, will lose fuel-economy as the rpm goes down, for two reasons; 1) Cam-timing and 2)...

Aftermarket ignition ...do you really need one?

My take on Over-reving; not bashing Lelo; IMO; on the street, with a typical SBM street-combo, over-reving should not be a thing The reasons being; With 3.55s and a 4-speed, my Barracuda can hit 85 mph @7200, in Second gear, which is well into "lose-your-license" territory, so it seldom goes...

No more ethanol free gas in Canada?

My ancient 360 has always been very happy with 87E10. But I designed it to be. However, as indicated in above comments, she's not particularly excited to fire up on two-week old gas. Nor on last fall's gas either, even if was stabilized. So what I have been doing is keeping a small bottle of...

Aftermarket ignition ...do you really need one?

I read in Smokey Yunichs book something along those same lines. As I recall, he was big on Amps. While the CDI systems have an excellent response time, they don't make much for amps. Which is why they went to Multi-Striking. The thing is as rpm goes up, there is no longer time for...

    920 heads - What Cam?

Do you realize that with 3.21 gears, 26" tires, and an A904, your WOT mph is gonna be ~50 mph in First gear, and 84 in Second, both at 5500rpm@10% slip.. So, on the way to the speed limit, yur only gonna hit the powerpeak once. And On the 1-2 shift, the Rpm is gonna drop from 5500 to around...

    Factory high stall converter

my 904-2800 was rated for a slanty. It stalls a lil higher behind my stock 140 psi, 318 but I gotta tell ya, it's just right.. It stalls slightly different with every gear I run it, highest with 2.76s and lowest with 4.30s, but not by much cuz the stock-cam 318 seems to make about the same...

Tear into it, or bolt in and go???

To run pumpgas at 185psi in that combo, is a recipe for detonation disaster. Like said ; If that number is true, then chances are very good that the Q is real tight, so you might get away with it in a lightweight-A, But you won't know that until you load it up, or it blows up, or you take it...

    Pop pop on exhaust side

OP @Chadderbox70 The engine does not care how much or how little idle timing it has, so long as; 1) the T-slots are synced up and 2) the setting you choose does not cause a tip-in sag, and 3) the sunshell doesn't rattle too harshly when you put it into gear. 4) and the plugs stay clean. The...

    Pop pop on exhaust side

I agree that 18* degrees is not too high. The point is that to get the idlespeed DOWN with that much timing, is gonna take shutting the throttles. And then the transfers get shut down, and then the mixture screws get cranked open, and then the instant you step on the pedal, the entire low...

    Pop pop on exhaust side

I can tell you that your idle timing is too much, and the sooty plugs are the proof. The only thing keeping that engine running is the multi-strike box. I can run that cam at 5degrees, and cure that sooty problem right up. Here's how it works; you buzz the timing up, and the rpm goes up with...

How much drag should there be rotating my rear wheel in neutral. My brakes are not dragging

When you rotate the driveshaft in reverse rotation, the rear sprag locks up, which then forces the sunshell to rotate thru the rear planetary; that's where the additional force comes from. Whereas in normal rotation, the output shaft spins freely with the planetaries, and the slipping clutch...
