    318 help..

I used the Engine Quest heads on my 318. Very happy with them so far but i had to change the valve springs because the ones that come on them would bottom out before full valve lift. I guess I should have bought the heads bare and gone from there. I'm running the Comp XE268H cam but would...

Using head gaskets to lower compression...

I used .027" thick cometic gaskets on my 318 with the EQ Heads. They were the thinnest I could find. My pistons are .060" down in the hole. If I recall my math brought it around to about 9.4 ish.

:happy1: I'm watching, I need info on this matter also.

    Gasket match- worth it??

It really depends on your intake. My old school performer intake ports were half the size of the EQ Heads. I worked away at the intake and eventually found that about 1-2 inches in, the runners widened right up to the size of the gasket, and the intake ports on the head. So in my case, I think...

who has the fastest 318 ?!!!

I do have a couple pics, but they are nothing fancy. There is as little chrome under the hood as possible and the headers are just painted and chipped. I will see if I can upload some pics later from my phone.

who has the fastest 318 ?!!!

I run a 318. It's .030 over stock bottom end. Engine Quest heads with LS1 type beehive springs and retainers. Comp XE268H cam. Has 4.10 gears and 26 x 10.5 ET Streets. Shift kit in the A904. The best it ran with the stock convertor was 13.72 and the best MPH was 101. The car weighs about 3700...

Trunk mounted battery/ rear seat firewall regulations/track legal....

Going with a sealed box is way easier IMO then building a rear firewall. When you do a firewall, it also needs to go under the package tray too, which can be a pain in the butt. I prefer the aluminum Taylor box.

1/4 mile car front end alignment

Turn in some spring preload on the lighter corners which are opposite and remove equal amounts on the heavier corners. Start with maybe a turn on the coilovers and I'm guessing you have torsion bars? Try a turn on the bolt at a time and see what the weights do. All this with full race weight of...

    NHRA Welding rules??

I made the brake clean mistake once and only once!! Was welding, laying on my back no less, and right away I knew what I did wrong. I thought back to my apprenticeship and how that nasty gas is heavier than air and my instructor said to stand on your head against the wall to help drain that...

    NHRA Welding rules??

I've never ground a cage weld. There are a few tech guys around here that are pretty sticky, especially our local chassis inspector. Weld quality and 360 degree welds are the first thing he looks for. Kinda like a robot lol.

1/4 mile car front end alignment

It seems good to me. Good plan for setting it up for on track. If you were to drive it on the street often, you would just wear the inside of the tire faster. If you like the way it handles on track, then I would leave it. A friends 68 Dart is leaned in more than that I would say from the...

    NHRA Welding rules??

First of all, don't practice on your project. Use scrap metal. Make sure all pieces are very clean. Weld all different types of joints, at all sorts of angles. Check out some welding forums like Miller welds or other non-sponsored ones, and you can ask general questions there. Treat every...

    EQ's,Cam, and Rocker recommends.

Hey Todlich, I bought my heads direct from Engine Quest in Vegas. I can see the valve lift you are looking to use is a little higher than mine. I have .512. Mine was pushing it, the retainers get close to the seals. So you may need to talk to them and see what the options are. Maybe taller...

    First Time Out!!

Right on. Thanks guys. I looked up some info about the distributor slots and it looks really simple. Might just take a few tries to figure out how much to limit movement. Everyone I talk to says go with a good convertor which makes sense. We have a local company that can build custom ones called...

Here's the link with my best ET and other findings. Also you can learn from some of the things I should have done even though I know better. Lol. I'm pretty impressed though. Pulls hard on the top end even with the cam choice. Lots of other good info from some of the other comments regarding...

    First Time Out!!

Ok. So by welding the plate it's just to prevent farther movement of the plate past my desired total?? I've never messed with re curving. Last motor had crank trigger. Also, who makes springs for it? Just msd or whoever? Thanks.

    First Time Out!!

Oh ok that's cool. I see what you were saying. Oops. Ya I know it's really rich. Lol. That's why I'm gonna bring it down a bunch for the next outing. It is a wide band O2 setup and I've used it on other cars with good results, and seems to be accurate. It has metering blocks on both ends so...

    First Time Out!!

I also have race iq. I didn't have time to pick up a new paper log book so I'm using my phone for now. We have a paper book from the old race car but I wanted to keep it apart from this car. It's funny how with a slower car a slight change in shift point can throw the et off a bunch whereas our...

    First Time Out!!

Maybe if I get some spare time I'll yank the bumpers off and lighten them up. But the convertor will have to wait until the winter I think. I'm not looking forward to pulling the headers to get the trans out to change it, even with a hoist. I'm just gonna keep having fun though, that's for sure!

    First Time Out!!

Thanks guys! It was a fun time for sure. The car isn't spinning, it doesn't even spin on the street lol. I forgot to mention there is an open spacer under the carb already. One day I'll get to putting a 3500 stall convertor in it, but that will have to wait because of time and money. I'm way...

Ya everyone looks at me like a have 2 heads when I tell them how heavy it is lol. I've been eyeing up those braces and really considered removing them like you said but I haven't had the time. First Time Out!!

Hey Guys! So this past weekend we finally made it out racing. Our local track has run into problems with it's upgrade so we followed some of our friends down to Bremerton Raceway. It's such a different track compared to our home track, but it was quite nice. Good pits, even nice and grassy...

    EQ's,Cam, and Rocker recommends.

I have those EQ heads with smaller valves on my 318 LA. I used the comp cams 1425-kit except the pushrods were the wrong length for the flat tappet cam. I used newer style comp beehive springs and retainers for an ls motor. I can get the number if you need. The springs that come loaded on the...

Advice for beginner wanting get into drag racing?

Go spectate for a bit. Maybe see if you can volunteer working in the burnout box. Our local track is always looking for help. Then you can observe a days worth of burnouts. Also ask questions to people at the track. They are always willing to help. Maybe bring your car and asks the tech guy...

    Fact or Fiction--Trailer tie downs

I leave the car in neutral while tying it down so I don't put pressure on the park pin or gears for manual. Then I put it in gear or park as a backup plan. You there never seems to be pressure on it when I take it out of park to untie it.
