Mike 10W30 is fine ALL year long here. What ever flavor (Brand) you want or like. Use GM EOS for your additive about 2 OZ per oil change. This will keep your cam and valve train happy. EOS is available at your local GM dealer (last I bought was about 15 a quart). Your Buddy, Frank

Yes . All replacement pumps are HV compared to the factory piece. You dont want a True HV pump its too hard on the drive gear. I have the hardened race prepped pumps and gears for sale. You need to PM me for a shipped price. Frank

If you have your cam ground right why get 1.6 rockers? You dont REALLY need to sonic check your block. I have not seen a iron slant block yet that cant take a .104 over bore. Visual on the core shift and bore. Now if you go .140 or more then I would sonic check and hard block. Frank

There is a REALLY nice write-up in the articles section of slantsix.org. You are going from the rope style to the rubber style. RTV will work fine but really isnt necessary where your worried about. Frank

If your really concerned pull the valve cover and see that you have flow to the valve train. (do a valve adjustment while you are in there). You will get back what you spend by better fuel economy and lower maint costs. And have the piece of mind that the top end is getting oiled. Frank

There are several Aftermarket Manifold that have heat provisions. Our Aussie Speed manifolds have a heat provision (as a add-on option). You pipe your heater hose through it and it uses water to heat the manifold. Others like the Offy have manifold heat on the bottom like the factory heat. Frank

Slants tend to like more intake duration than exhaust. About 8-12 is typical. That is a REALLY mild cam. You will want to MEASURE your head and block .90 is not that much (remember you will loose .020 just using a composite head gasket and in 74 the actual compression ratio was around 7.4 - 8.4...

Yes OS valves in a number of configuration have been flow tested. IN A WELL PORTED head with proper induction, exhaust, and bore the increase is dramatic. For a STOCK engine and drive train its not so. Frank

If you put the right cam in your slant there is NO reason to increase the rocker ratio. I see it as a fudge factor for a cam that didnt quite measure up. Just my 02. Frank
