Check the crank pulley. I just had a knocking noise issue and that's what it turned out to be.

I think I found the problem. The crank pulley was loose and with the belt on it just made it louder. Thanks for everyone's input!

i have a 340 small block and today it started making a knocking noise. Would a water pump make a knocking noise? I took the belt of and the noise seems to go away. The water pump seems to spin pretty freely.

Well I had the wires crossed at the vr and it must have fried it. I purchased a new one along with new plug, rewired them and it seems fine. The volt gauge is showing right around 13.5v at idle and just over 14v revving the engine. I didn't check voltage at the battery yet but will. Will there...
