Any drawbacks to using 1985 LA block to build 408 stroker?

I'm also curious as to what the - number means after the 360.

That looks like a 67 so it wouldn't be an original 340, but chime in if I'm wrong

    Chiropractors?

Inversion tables are awesome for lower back pain. I'm 6'8" and have had trouble for the last 20 years or so with a buldging disc, I bought a tetter hangups about 3 years ago and have had no pain at all ever since. I only use it maybe 2 times a week and it has been a life saver.

Ticking valvetrain noise from fresh engine

I used two sets of comp lifters and now have the lunati cam and lifters in it. It has about 1K miles on it and still runs great but still has that annoying noise in it.

Ticking valvetrain noise from fresh engine

I started a thread on here a few years ago with the same problem and got a lot of good responses but never found the problem. I have the same scenario with a roller block ( '89 360) with flat tappets and the noise seems to be drivers side near the front. I changed header gaskets 5 times tried 2...

    Water Pump Bolts

No, they are not wet, but i would put a little silicon on the threads when you put them back in so oil doesn't seep out. I did the same thing you are doing just last weekend.

    Too cool not to show...

Wow that is way way cool, you can get sunoco 104 where you live? The best we can do here is 91, without buying race fuel and mixing it w/pump gas. Oh yea I guess the car is ok too.

    Heat gasket

I also used phenolic washers under the flat washers to help insulate from any heat transfer.

    Heat gasket

I had heat soak issues with edelbrock avs 650 until I slipped one of those gaskets in and no more problems! I am also running a rpm intake so I had to go with a drop base filter housing.

    Indy Head/Bad Rap

They suck, I have a thread on here with my story I just had never revealed the company I was doing buisness with. I did finally get the proper springs but i had to put them on myself or pay someone to do it, they would not cover the expense. Same old thing they were nice when I was ordering them...

    Opinions please

I bought a set of edelbrock heads from a place that uses edelbrock bare castings and loads them up w/their own components. Now for the problem, when I unboxed these things it looked like to me the springs were way to big for the retainers. So when I set the rocker arms and shafts in place they...

    Demon NO Go

May I ask what you mean by "jumping time" when you describe an irregular reading on a vac. gauge? Last time I hook up my gauge the needle was just a blur that looked like it was about a half inch wide. Thanks!

    old chrysler

I found this old chrysler in the park the other day, the guy said it was a '31 or so. I wasn't here in the 30's, so I was wondering how original it was?

    engine noise

Ok, give me a little bit of a break here. I'm not a rocket scientist by any means but come on! I work in a machine shop where we perform maint. on 250K$ injection molds that have .0002" tolerences. All of my clearences on my rods and mains were dead nuts .002". I got my new clevite bearings...

    engine noise

I just wanted to update this thread since I completely dissasembled this thing yesterday. Number 5 main bearing was badley gaulded but it wasn't spun. This was the very last thing that I thought the problem was as I have heard bad bearings in the past and the were always noisy at start up and...

    plug a hole - manifold

Not trying to start an argument here but they do make helicoils for pipe threads and they do work fine with a little sealer. I do not know if they make them that small though, the smallest I have ever used is a 3/8.

    Oil Slinger??

You might check your old oil galley plug that is just behind your cam chain, mine had about a .040 dia. hole in the center for chain oiling.

    engine noise

I have the sfi external balance flex plate and neutral balance convertor. I did check the thrust on the crank when I built this motor and it was within spec,( .010 - to .014 is what comes to mind but don't quote me on that). I wish I had used a better quality convertor than I did, I haven't read...

    engine noise

No I didn't, if the new remflex gaskets don't fix this I will tie a hose by the slip fit joint and run it through the window and head down the road and see if I can hear anything and I do appreciate your help very much. Right now I'm waiting for these gasket and as soon as I get them on I will...

    engine noise

I can't hear the noise at idle at all, It has to be in gear accelerating. I have even put it in neutral rolling down the road and reved it up several times but still don't hear it then either. To answer a couple more questions, I adjusted the rockers to zero lash then went .030" or 3/4 of a...

    engine noise

One more thing, I did go as rich as possible on the chart with just metering rod changes with out changing jets. The next step would be jets and rods, I will take a look at this also.

    engine noise

When I say it's much more noticable under acceleration I mean 0 - 30 mph over a long distance, I don't have to be hammered down. The rythem of the noise is as if it is one cylinder or one lifter. I did advance the timing to 18-20 initial and that pinging was a completly different sound. With...
