    Coach Controls Wiring Harness?

just getting ready to pull the trigger on the wiring, glad I found this post!!! Have been looking on and off at CC, very similar to everyone else hahaha. I am thinking of mounting the panel in the trunk, anyone see any concerns with doing that? Could I mount it on the wheelwell ( like where the...

    72 Valiant

Well it's been some time since I was in the shop, but I managed to get a few hours in again. Got the rust cleaned up out of the cylinder, but it was etched in and now the cylinder wall is scored...but what do you do. I have went back and forth and honestly got a little discouraged for a bit as...

    "Ran when pulled"

Once I get a chance to get back into the shop, I will take a closer look at those weird pistons and see exactly what the deal is there. I will update everyone with what I find and how that cylinder cleans up Really appreciate the keen eyes and all the help!

Thanks, will definitely remember that! Just for my own curiosity though, why is that?

    "Ran when pulled"

This motor/tranny was supposed to be a temporary fix to get me back on the road and give me a chance to get all of the other stuff done first (wiring, suspension, rear end). I have another 318 block and a 904 core that I was going to build down the road and then transfer over the top end from...

    "Ran when pulled"

Feel like this is turning into a "whats wrong with this picture" game but you are right, the dimples are all facing the same direction. When I get some time back in the shop I need to have a very close look at this to see what is up. Thanks for the sharp eye

    "Ran when pulled"

Wont be back in the shop for a few days but I will let you all know what I find when I start pulling it apart. I was only thinking of running 6-8psi, nothing crazy but since I am going to be re-doing the bottom end it probably is a good idea to strengthen up the bottom end a bit. I always get...

    "Ran when pulled"

It was a great catch on your part, that just saved me a ton of wasted time and energy. Thank you!! I am going to take it to a machine shop and have them check and rebuild the bottom end of this thing. I am getting out of my comfort zone here and I had budgeted this in as a possibility if things...

    "Ran when pulled"

You are correct, those 2 pistons are different as well as different orientations....Sum beach Well, I think that is the clincher...looks like time to do the bottom end as well

    72 Valiant

Sounds like a great format, can't say for sure that I am going to have it together any time soon as my shop time is pretty sporadic. No strips close by either but I will keep in touch as it does sound like fun! Plus I would like to see what the old girl can do once I get it going :)

    "Ran when pulled"

Yes to all of those things, it was tin gaskets and TBI. Was the different pistons a thing on those engines?

Do you happen to have a link for those wheels by chance?

    "Ran when pulled"

Yes good eye. The front piston on both sides of the engine have indentation, the other 6 are all the same. I actually didn't even notice as all I was focusing on was the rust. Was that a factory thing in the early 90's or do I have a pieced together motor? So glad I only paid $200 for this...

    "Ran when pulled"

So I went at it last night for about an hour or so with some carb cleaner, WD-40 and some very LIGHT 400 grit. Managed to remove about 80% of it and there doesn't appear to be any cylinder damage. i still may pull the pistons and do the bottom end, but going to fill the cylinder with oil tonight...

    72 Valiant

Do I have plans for the car  The car currently leaks every fluid except washer fluid. The slant runs decent and the thought has crossed my mind several times to keep it but either way I need to pull it. I picked up a 318/904 from a 91 half ton that a guy was getting rid of for $200. That...

    "Ran when pulled"

Engine turns just fine, I rotated the piston lower but it was almost bottomed out already. There is no scaling below where it was sitting so I am thinking it must have got some water through an open valve somehow. The more I look at it, the more it seems ok I just am not sure how to clean the...

    72 Valiant

Decided to start a thread on my build, since I am actually getting to spend some time on the car. I bought my 72 Valiant 2 years ago from a young kid who was selling it to pay his tuition. He had put some "lipstick" on the car that was pretty rough but I liked where he was going with it...

Thanks Sedanman, that makes sense. That makes me feel a lot better about moving forward with the bottom end

    "Ran when pulled"

Oil actually looked pretty good, there was a bit of sludge at the bottom of the pan but nothing I was too concerned with. The rusty scale on the cylinder is pretty hard, not sure how to remove it without damaging the cylinder or the rings. Any ideas?

    "Ran when pulled"

I haven't torn down a lot of older engines before, and this one cylinder is different than anything I have seen before. I know it's been sitting for awhile but it seems like a lot of scaling in that one cylinder and I am not sure why it's just that one, nothing unusual on the head and the gasket...

    "Ran when pulled"

a few months ago, I bought a 318/904 from a guy that pulled it out of a 91 half ton. He said he hadn't done a compression test on it but it ran good when he pulled it, he was using the body for a gen 1 cummins build and had no use for the motor or tranny. I picked it up for $200 so wasn't too...
