Yeah, I agree it's a mess! Almost looks like they thought a couple of the nines were unreadable and stamped them with the curled tail.

Is it normal for the VIN stamped on the block to have two different types of number stamps. It appears that they stamped some of the nines with two different stamps. This is a 340 block.

You might also want to check the starter drive and make sure it's not trying to engage the flywheel under acceleration. I have seen that happen on other vehicles if the return spring brakes or is really weak.
