    920 heads - What Cam?

Hello, I was starting to replace a leaky timing cover gasket and realized that I'm half way to a cam swap. I was looking for cam suggestions, but haven't really found any good threads on my setup. if you could be so kind. I've got a 73 duster 1967 318 out of a charger, this means it came...

Every time i hit the blinker my radio shuts off for exactly 3 seconds

73 duster with a 318. Like the title says the radio turns off for 3 seconds every time i hit the blinker. I found the problem, just thought id' put this up here if anyone else is experiencing the same thing. I just put up with it for a while because I didn't want to chase down electrical...

    Timing with a vacuum gauge

weird. The mark is dead on at TDC. Its a 67 motor with a 73 timing cover and ballancer though. Maybe that's why. The 67s had the mark on the other side of the engine.

    Timing with a vacuum gauge

Hi all, I've been trying to time my 318 after I put on a new carb and intake but I think that the balancer has slipped or something because I can't even see the timing mark with my gun. I've seen some information about timing an engine with a vacuum gauge on the internet so I gave it a try...

Diagnosing Distributor - No Spark Chase

final update: project was on hold for a long time due to weather and life. Turns out it WAS the distributor I just screwed something up with the test. Also, right after i installed the new distributor It ran for like ten seconds and then the coil went out so i thought i'd screwed something...

Installed distributor - Now it makes a bad noise

I've got a tool i made of air compressor parts that threads into the spark plug hole so that I can feel the compression. I'm almost certain its on the compression stroke. Its a stock electronic ignition so there's no points but Its gota be close enough to fire off. I guess I'll make sure sure...

Installed distributor - Now it makes a bad noise

the cap points more or less towards the #1 intake manifold bolt. It does look a little more clockwise than I remember but I might bust be imagining things. firing order is correct. i keep checking it.

Installed distributor - Now it makes a bad noise

Hey sorry for not keeping up on this post. I got really sick. Anyway. I got a video of whats happening. just to catch everyone up... What i have done - Installed new distributor (I think the pickup on the old one was bad but the whole thing was rusty and gross) - Confirmed TDC using a...

Installed distributor - Now it makes a bad noise

yeah it was running ok before. I'll try to get a video later. its kind of hard to reproduce the noise. Maybe I'm just a dumbass and i did something wrong with the distributor install. I'll look at it with fresh eyes. Thanks for the help.

Installed distributor - Now it makes a bad noise

yeah, it basically looks the same. I'm pretty sure the pickup in the old distributor is what was wrong with that one so i don't think swapping it over would help. its dark now so I really don't want to change the distributor again anyway. I've already done it a few times today. I'm...

Installed distributor - Now it makes a bad noise

well, with the coil wire grounded, the problem seems to go away. Super intermittent problem though, so its hard to convince myself i'm not just getting lucky.

Installed distributor - Now it makes a bad noise

unplugging the distributor from the electronic ignition seems to make the sound go away, but its super intermittent. The whole car shakes when it happens. Could this be a result of horrendous timing?

Installed distributor - Now it makes a bad noise

The engine is not running, this is happening during cranking when i'm trying to get it started and time the engine. Its just a simple distributor replacement. The timing is definitely off, but I don't see how that could make this sound. It really loud and alarming. It sounds like grinding...

Installed distributor - Now it makes a bad noise

ok, well the problem is back... This ones really got me confused. For some reason the noise only manifests when the cap is on. I might just be getting unlucky but we've been at this for about 10 minutes and I can't get it to happen when the cap is off. There is no sign of damage to the cap or...

Installed distributor - Now it makes a bad noise

Well I took the distributor out and cranked it over a bunch. No more noise. I put the distributor back in and still no noise? I think it was just in there a little wonky. Now to time the engine.

Installed distributor - Now it makes a bad noise

Hello, Looking for some help from you guys. I installed a new distributor in my 73 duster 318. I'm getting spark now which was the original problem, but it still won't start. The sketchiest thing is that it periodically makes a grinding/screeching noise when i'm turning it over. Whatever...

Diagnosing Distributor - No Spark Chase

update: Well, I re-did the ignition system bench test. I must have done something incorrectly last time, but this time I was able to determine that there was something wrong with the distributor. I put a new one in and now I have spark! Thanks 67Dart273 that was really helpful! Unfortunately...

can I ground out an ignition coil and expect a spark

Hey everyone, i'm trying to figure out a no spark problem i have. If I were to ground the ignition coil wire that leads to the distributor should I expect it to spark kind of like testing a spark plug?

Diagnosing Distributor - No Spark Chase

sorry to revive a dead thread. Life has been crazy. I got a new chepo ignition module and still nothing. I've noticed that I get 12 volts at both the positive and negative terminals of the coil when the ignition is in run. when it is in crank the light is a little duller but appears to be...

Diagnosing Distributor - No Spark Chase

Below, distributor "one wire" test. I have removed the other distributor wire for simplicity. Take the bare connector end or this clip lead (the yellow) and with everything hooked up, ground it repeatedly. Each grounding should result in a spark (In this photo you need to hook up the ECU ground...

Diagnosing Distributor - No Spark Chase

well, the ECU is well grounded now. Still no spark and still no snap from the pig tail. I'm pretty sure that the ECU is good because its only got like 1000 miles on it and i tried the another one thats been sitting around for a few years. cant be 100% sure though. IDEA: If I put a jumper...

Diagnosing Distributor - No Spark Chase

Do you think that I could spin the distributor by bumping the engine over when I'm testing the two wires with the volt meter? I hate trying to take the hold down off.

Diagnosing Distributor - No Spark Chase

Hey everyone, I'm chasing a no spark problem and I could use a little advice. 1973 duster with a 67 318. Factory electronic ignition. I was moving it a few days ago to make way for my tenet's project and it kept dying when I reved it. I could re-start it and idle down the alley but that...
