I finally got a 12 sec street car!

Congrats on the 12. It seems like everyone on line has a car that goes 12's or faster, but at the track on street car night, they are far less common. Also... That mess may include some pieces of your feet. I agree that it HAS to be checked. Here's some info in a thread on another...

    early abody ball joint differences?

That doesn't really make any sense, unless your car had some wierd work done to it before you started. The stock upper BJ on A Small Bolt Pattern car is way smaller than the newer one. There is absolutely no way it will work in the top of the newer style knuckle.

    Friend With A Ford....

He's definately dreaming at a little over 2000 pounds. BUt for the most part, newer cars are lighter than older ones. The biggest factor in fuel consuption is weight. Therefore it is in the manufacturers interest to keep weight down. Lots of aluminum and plastic. Tell your friend to...

    early abody ball joint differences?

Not the upper ball joints, BUT as you well know, the eccentric bolts were seized into the bushings. Nothing a bunch of swearing, and some time with an airhammer, and my impact, and some penetrating oil, and more swearing and more air hammer.....you get the picture.

    early abody ball joint differences?

I'm surprised by this. I swapped my 69 dart without swapping the lower A arms.. I'm swapping a 67 dart as we speak, without swapping the lowers... I've already bolted the lower BJ's from the 73 up into the arm without issue

    early abody ball joint differences?

I have noticed in my moog catalog, that the pre 72 A body cars show 2 different lower balljoints. One for disc brake, and one for drum. What was the physical difference in these lower ball joints? Any info appreciated

    3" or 2.5" Exhaust ?

2.5 certainly won't limit a 360 in any way. It won't limit most BB's either. I think with a 440 or so, 3" starts to become more usable, but still not a necessity. Take it with a grain of salt, though. It run 3" on my car....LOL BUT I use 2.5" tailpipes from the flowmasters. FWIW, I...

balls to the walls 400 build

The 451 build originated with using a 440 crank in a 400 with STOCK slugs. think about it. they are 100 or more down the hole to start with. The stroke difference is .370. So the piston is moved up .185. So it will stick out about .070 or so. Won't work if there's any ridge...

    340 vs 383

There is some added "cool" factor for sure. Especially in a smaller car. Don't feel you need to follow the sb path if it's not what you want. Hobby cars are all about what the owner wants. Why else would we build them? If you want the BB then give'r. I think what most of us are...

    340 vs 383

You're talkin about me... aren't you. I'll concede your car is faster than mine...LOL I will also say that if I was the guy who started the thread, I would build a 340 over the 383. A 340 is mean little motor. In stock form , a 340 swinger would eat 383 runner's all day long (I realize...

    performance curve distributor

depending on how radical a build is, you may see very little change in fuel economy without vacuum. Vacuum advance sure comes up for debate a lot. BUT that is a different topic... Curve can make a big difference. This year I shortened my curve to 12 degrees (was 16). Bumped initial...

    EGR, is it necessary?

Assuming you are switching it up to a carb manifold etc, then no it is not needed. Mopars did't get egr till the 70's. The alum manifold will probalby be threaded so pipe plugs can be put in where the valve would go. If you are planning on doing something exotic, like switching in the...

    Picture Day

I've added rear sway bars to a 73 duster, and a 69 daryt I drove in my yonger days. The days when I din't care about tickets, or dying, etc... In any case, out of 10, I'd say 8. VERY happy with the change in handling. BAACK to the thread. Cool car!!. Myf irst car was a 73 340 duster...

    master cyl. for pwr.disc brakes

On some cars there are different part numbers due to a slight bore diffference in the cylinders. Some books show a change up to what looks like a drum cylinder. I have never used that one with the two ports the same, for that reason. In any case, I have used the "manual" cylinder with a...

    Why on this site

Canadian here, and I don't see it either. I see the same as posted in the earlier post. Even if there is a gm ad, so what? Isn't the content of the site more important? Is the advertising crucial to the sites image? I don't care if there's an ad for panty hose across the top of the...

Price you pay to play - 727

Parts breakage is a part of racing. To ban a car because you think his 727 isn't up to the task is pushing it. It's all fine to say an underbuilt trans isn't safe, but who knows what the internals are? Who knows how much power a car really makes till it actually makes a pass? Besides, I...

Price you pay to play - 727

The pic of the blown cuda trans is along the lines of 388dart's damage. It went down instead of up, so it's the bottom that is blown to pieces, not the top. Real mess. I think I am going to look into a blanket also

pcv and thermostats for street strip cars ?

On the flip side, I run a pcv valve, with no issues. I don't run a T stat, but do use a restrictor plate in place of it. I had trouble finding one for a mopar, so I just broke the middle out of an old T stat.

    How many Gages?

I don't think you could use oil pressure for brake pressure. Brake pressure is wayyyy higher. As for me, I run a tack on the column, mech water, mech oil press and mech fuel press(oil and fuel out on the cowl. fuel lines cannot run ito the pass compartment) Speedo is factory, and so...

Has everyone had a Duster before????

Had a 73 340 duster. It was my first real car. Loved it. I never got a lot of people asking me stupid stuff. I used to get that with the 69 dart in my avatar. I had a kid about 15 ask me If I was the original owner. I was 22 at the time. It was in 1992. You do the...

    New ignition trouble, MAYBE

That's great, but it won't tell you anything on your charging problem. The voltage at the coil is reduced through the ballast. On the regulator it should be system voltage. Check it on the ignition lead of the reg, and it will tell you what is going on. 8)
