    340 with edelbrock heads overheating

Rusty I have a couple of questions about this. Generically, would 12 degrees of initial timing be about right? Second, if he has closed chambered heads, wouldn’t those be more efficient and need less timing? Initial or total? He didn’t mention if he has 340-specific-edelbrock open chamber...

    3.9 Stroker

Lacquer thinner mixed with transmission fluid (or better yet super creep) sprayed into the spark plug holes with an oil can. Maybe, additionally, pull the oil pan and spray up into the rotating assembly. Should loosen things up. There are automotive ‘snake-oils’ that are so thin, they soak into...

    Cryo treating blocks?

That shop did ALLOT. of CUSTOM. W O R K ! ! ! It is in the article. Best bet would be to have that exact shop repeat the build for you $$$$$$$ because that shop owner would emotionally remember what it took to build that engine build. The moment he starts pointing you down a different path...

    LA360 compression

It’s time to get your property and find another machinist/engine builder. SOME business owners are disagreeable when they don’t want to do something-I’m hoping this is your problem and not ignorance/greed-w/dishonesty.

    LA360 compression

Replacing the piston and balancing the assembly is literally right up his alley, his forte, HIS JOB. Tell him you want some KB-107 +.030” (or Speed Pro H116cp pistons) pistons and rebalance it-you will have everything you want. It’s your engine/money, wtf does he mean “No.” (to replacing the...

    LA360 compression

I didn’t read all the replies but you should be able to mill the cylinder heads and the deck height of the block. Quench is PRECISION measurements and timing-at that close, there is a risk of valves kissing pistons.

    1.6 rockers with this combo?

The valve lift and rocker ratio are limited (I believe) by the flow of the intake/exhaust runners. On the iron j heads I wanna say the experts here said lift after .45?? Was a waste on stock heads. I don’t know what the limit is edelbrock heads. You have given engine specs, but Everyone here...

    Balancing a 360 internally/ internal balance

I have had a machinist use the profes sional products balancer before, the machinist was an older fellow and didn’t seem to know any horror machining . He couldn’t do more than 3 angle valve job not insert valve seats into a cast iron J head. The professional products balancer is what he...

Flywheel yes, I was looking for the damper that the machinist could adjust the weight with (it came with several weight options) -but have blanked out on the name of that balancer.

    Oh dear God! 318 stroker

If this legitament, I have the mopar con rods 6.123” with Chevy-sized wrist pin journals as well. But you would ONLY have to pay the machinist to angle in some correct-angle valve reliefs into the pistons.

Question about gearing for Top Speed

I looked down to change the radio at 160 and had shifted lanes in a blink. new bushings and a tight front end was quintessential to safety, my friend with a 70's charger said his would lift up at 140mph-aerodynamics and that giant air scoop being all the physics stopping him at 140. Not the...

Question about gearing for Top Speed

I agree with your definition of Horsepower. But essentially a single piston briggs and straton engine making 75 hp and worn chevy 305 V8 making 75hp NEGATE your opinion;torque is what is going to move the vehicle (outside of gearing) and rpm will dictate the final speed of the OP's objective...

Question about gearing for Top Speed

there are other factors, wind, traction, friction input vary at varying speeds, (pressure from) altitude, -but basically like you said, "59hp 76ft lbs" gearing is like Archimedes? lifting a ship by himself with pulleys. It makes up for the torque to some extent. As a point of interest, the...
