    Finned vs smooth brake drum

They're in stock here, thank you all!

    Finned vs smooth brake drum

You're not allowed to do that either, I just took a risk assuming they'd be stupid enough not to notice.

    Finned vs smooth brake drum

One more concern; does anyone KNOW for sure if the finned 9" front drum will fit in an early 13" rim? Not really into ordering another thing that does not fit.

    Finned vs smooth brake drum

    Sense? C'mon, this is Spain.

    Finned vs smooth brake drum

Well I am originally from Finland so I better look for them when I go back in the summer :D

    Finned vs smooth brake drum

A fine would be just fine :D ..no, it will fail the inspection and the only way to pass is to convert back to drums. A guy I know just did that a few years back, had a nice VW van with historic plates, converted to front discs and then converted back to drums. So no way I'll risk that.

    Finned vs smooth brake drum

Two ebay vendors seem to have them.

    Finned vs smooth brake drum

No, I just thought that they probably will not notice the upgrade.

    Finned vs smooth brake drum

I think so too, but will a 10" drum fit in a 13" rim? They WILL check if the tire size matches the one on papers so I wouldn't dare putting on 14" wheels.

    Finned vs smooth brake drum

Well, mine never seem to get finnished either :D

    Finned vs smooth brake drum

I think it could but not really sure (I am not actually Spanish but Finnish, just living mostly here). If it could, then it would be subject to annual inspections with the emission tests which I am afraid would fail. Cheap insurance also is kind of appealing.

    Finned vs smooth brake drum

Yeah, basically. When you register a car here as a "historic vehicle" it has to be pretty much as it left the factory, or at least could have done. So as a Dart was available only with 9" drum brakes in 1963, that's what I'm stuck with. They also told me I have to get rid of the back seat belts...

    Finned vs smooth brake drum

But yeah, I really do need to stick with the 13" wheels and 9" brakes so just trying to figure out my best options with them...

She, actually. But that's allright :)

    Finned vs smooth brake drum

The brakes were apart and back together with standard stuff but I just thought I'd get the better stuff on my shelf to be ready when the next brake job is needed. Spain is producing something like 75% of all the olive oil in the world so yes, the olive groves do go on forever :D

    Finned vs smooth brake drum

Having just upgraded my master cylinder to dual circuit, got to thinking if finned drums would be a big improvement over the stock 9" smooth ones? The car is 1963 Dart, cannot consider discs nor even bigger drums (probably would not fit in my 13" rims) due to strict Spanish regulations...

Dual Master Cylinder Conversion All Drums

That's how my 63 was done, just recently. The master cylinder is Raybestos MC36221, from ebay. Replaced the original master with it, no problems according to the mechanic.

    Ball joint dust shields

Thank you guys. Unfortunately cannot measure the joints as the car is off the lift already, the repair guy just told me that the shields were wrong and he'll replace them when I got the correct ones. He said though that the joints are probably original ones, I don't know if they used many sizes...

    Ball joint dust shields

Hi all, can anyone give a link or a part number of the correct ball joint dust boots for a 1963 Dart? Recently received a set that the repair guy told me are way too large. Would like to get it right the second time...

In search of quality brake components Early A drum cylinders

An ancient thread I know but just thought to share. Just received Dorman W34177 front left wheel cylinder. It will not fit as is. The mounting holes but the cast is bigger than OEM so it interferes with the backing plate. Have to modify the cast or mounting hole in the backing plate. But...

65 Dart Dual Reservoir Conversion Kit????

Don't know about complete kits. But browsing around this forum found that the following should fit 63-66 models. Just ordered these last week for my 1963 Dart, supposed to fit with no modifications; Raybestos 36221 master cylinder MFG70662 Inline Tube splitter block

    Measuring brake hubs.

Would be also interesting which brand of drums would be dependable. When I ordered new drums for my 64 Valiant a few years ago, the mechanic ended up having the originals turned after all. Told me the new (Chinese?) ones were so out-of-round he thought the original ones would be safer to use.

    Seat Side Hinge Covers

My 1964 V100 had the hinges painted satin black. Maybe V200's or Signets had covers?

    Dash turn indicators acting up

Found two screws that ground the circuit to the cluster body. One was properly grounded, the other one not so much. Some rubbing with circuit cleaner and now the ohmmeter beeps on both. Perfect time to clean the instruments insides too!

    Dash turn indicators acting up

Three? Well, I have to pull the cluster panel and check them all then.

    Dash turn indicators acting up

Thank you, I just assumed if there is an added ground wire which is tight and good it would not be the grounding issue. Seems like I will have a cluster pulling sunday tomorrow :)

    Dash turn indicators acting up

I think I just made some progress. The problem seems to be the dash ligh dimmer in the headlight switch. Parking lights or driving lights on and dash lights dimmed, the indicators work fine. Brightening the dash lighting brings the problem back. Why? I wish someone would tell me. Another thing...

    Dash turn indicators acting up

I'm no means an electrician but I think can follow the lines in wiring diagram, I do think I'll have to start checking the bulkhead connector as that's the only spot where light/turn signal wires are even close to each other. The dash printed board ground is good.

    Dash turn indicators acting up

Another oddity I never noticed before. If I turn on the high beam, both dash turn indicators light up dimly even when not blinking. When I put the arm to the left, the right one in the dash blinks more brightly (left one blinks too, just more dim) and vice versa. Switching off the high beams...
