    Fuel sender repair

Alright! That's great! Thanks for letting us know. Yeah, I had to get an original lock ring from someone on this site to get my tank to seal. The new ones are way too thin and flimsy to seal.

    Fuel sender repair

I hope it works for you. Half a gas gauge is better than no gas gauge. I been there. Didn't like it.

    Fuel sender repair

I am coming in in the middle of a conversation. But, I had to scrape the paint/rust/stuff off the tank where it meets the strap and did the same for the strap. Once I did this, my gauge works great now, every time. The windings on the sending unit do not conform to mfg specs, so my gas gauge...

    Timing by Vacuum Reading?

Hey, he's a good buddy. I don't think the vacc timing is a good idea, although the other things may be a mistake, he's not. Other than that, the engine starts perfectly, I'm running 13.5-14 afr, with slightly higher and lower temporary movements, but it is staying pretty much between 13.5-14...

    Timing by Vacuum Reading?

I have a rather modified engine, high compression, large cam, 408, and I need to know what the best way to time it is because there is no standard measurement for it. I can start with the recommended timing, which is 10-16 Initial, idle in other words, and ramp it up to 34-46 at approx 3000 rpm...

    Fuel pump noise

I'm thinkin' mine might be from a plugged rear fuel filter. I just replaced it, can't start it yet, the tank is out. But I should have the tank replaced Tuesday, waiting on a sending unit lock ring. I'll post the results. It was making a noise like some weird pumping noise. Not a mechanical tap...

    Fuel pump noise

Did you find the noise?? I suspect my FP is making noise too. It is a Holley fuel pump. Is it a pumping noise you heard or a mechanical tap or something?

    1972 Dodge Colt

Hey Stan, Checked on the ring, it left Ft Worth at 3:38am this morning. Can't wait! 2100 lbs, wow, I think you are better off w/a /6 anyway. I've got a 3200lb Duster w/about 500 horses, it is so much power I don't dare punch it yet. I just got it together, took for freakin' ever. It's a long...

    1972 Dodge Colt

Hey Stan, What a cool car. I just read first page and the last one, but that looks like a bullet! I don't know why they make us have a photo on the web before we can post it. That is a "drag", and not a race one. I have photos, but don't want to go through the hassle to put them on the web. I...

408, Small or Big Block? Need EGT Info

Aim for 12.8 or 13 at cruise? I have a jet kit and bleed kit. I can get any mix I know to aim for.

408, Small or Big Block? Need EGT Info

I got this off Google: The absolute maximum safe EGT range is debatable. Our universal rule of thumb, regardless of engine make/model/year, is to not exceed 1250° F and not to operate in the 1200° F - 1250° F range for an extended period of time. My EGT Stays pretty consistent. I understand...

408, Small or Big Block? Need EGT Info

Well, this is the entire reason I am asking. I have a brand new engine, never taken it over 3k RPM. Never to the floor. I have 74's in the front for jets, 85's in the back, 32 shooter in the front 35 in back w/a 4.5 PV I just got this combo to sit pretty at 12.5 AFR cruise, idle bounces between...

408, Small or Big Block? Need EGT Info

So just keep the AFR around 12.5 to 13, maybe 13.5 outside? Never 14, back off throttle at 13.8 and add fuel? What are the outside parameters of the AFR reading?

Thank you. At what temp is the egt reading too hot to be safe for the engine?

408, Small or Big Block? Need EGT Info

Lets hope we never get so far as to see spots!! I don't want it to get that far. But I can't seem to get the other people here to understand that I want to know what it is "When" I am on the floor, not after I get it home. If it starts to get hot, I will back off, you know what I mean? Make some...

408, Small or Big Block? Need EGT Info

Thanks Brooks. I used to be working with a stock motor which everything is different on. I went performance mode and am in a little over my head. I don't mind learning, and the Duster has 2x the hp about, which is great. I guess I will just have to as the Gauge mfger what the normal, hot and too...

408, Small or Big Block? Need EGT Info

I appreciate your input Yellow. The sensor for my EGT is 2-1/2 inches from the head in the primary tube of the header. That seems to me to be a lot faster read than the plugs. Seems to be that the probe would be an instant read, and the plug would take time to change to reflect the temperature...
