Anyone ever run a mechanical tachometer?

When I was racing small block chevies in the mid & late 70s, modified production 4 speed 6.50 gears, mechanical tach was more accurate, just make sure to keep spare cables, especially after a missed gear!! Steve

Is my rear end strong enough

Crush sleeve eliminator was in both 489 cases, the main cap on right side broke both times, but after 400 + runs & more the ring & pinion & the case said enough. Steve

Is my rear end strong enough

We drag race a 71 Demon, 440 rb 727 & 8 3/4, 4.30 gear, runs low 10's on foot brake. Broke 2 ring and pinions and cases (489) and 1 sprag. Going to a dana cause I put in a trans brake, don't want to take any more chances. Steve

    Must be one rare sombeech

Any 4 inch bore sbc 4 bolt main from 1969 and up can be used to make a 4 bolt 327, just need a 3.25 stroke crank & the correct pin height piston & you have a 4 bolt 327. 1969 z28 302 inch engines were the first production sbc blocks, after that a train load of 350 inch blocks were made with 4...

    Must be one rare sombeech

I am not a specialist, but according to sbc history and technical books, the first 4 bolt main in production was the 1969 z28 302 4 inch bore, 3 inch stroke. Steve

    headers

TTI's are good ,long lasting headers, BUT, you will cuss, grunt & groan when you have to change a starter. If you are required to have a transmission shield or blanket the blankets burn & lots of floor pan sheet metal work is required for any shield installation. Steve

What do you think can i get it into the 10 sec?

    Our Demon has 29"tall Hoosier's, 4.30 gear & runs 7100rpm @ 1/4 mile, but we are running @132 - 133 mph with 10.2s being the best e.t. Steve

    Brake information

My car has lbp so the only thing I need to worry about is drum bolt pattern when putting 11x3 brakes on my 8 & 3/4, is this true? thanks, Steve

    Brake information

My 8 3/4 has 9in brakes & they are on a 71 Demon. Isn't it true that all Mopar backing plates interchange? I hope they do, as I am looking to put 11in on the Demon. Any info would be great, Steve

    Ladder bar w/floater or Caltracs

I guess for all practical & econmonical purposes I will be going to a ladder bar & housing floater, but still using the adjustable shocks in the rear & using the S/S springs to support the load. Here is a question though, the car currently will pull the front tires anywhere from 3in to alittle...

    Leaky transmission

Thanks to all, I had 2 problems, cracked cooling line & the Lokar dip stick was pushed all the way into the handle making the transmission about 2.5 qts too full A operating temp. Again thank you all.

    Leaky transmission

I'm also wondering if I am overfilling. Trans has a Lokar flex tube & stick. How much dip stick should be into the pan below pan rail?

    Leaky transmission

Seems to be dry in this area also, appears to be around the lines, shifter shaft seal, but all are new & don't leak unless in gear. Very hard to tell

    Leaky transmission

Neutral safety switch isn't leaking, I checked this very close

    Leaky transmission

727 with a T/A reverse pattern manual valve body seemed to be leaking @ pan gasket, replaced gasket & pan, made 2 passes then leaked. Chased the leak to a shifter shaft seal, removed trans, then v/b, replaced seal. Noticed there was no gasket between separater plate & trans case, is there...

    Ladder bar w/floater or Caltracs

The springs are moved in on our Demon, I don't know if that makes a difference or not

    Ladder bar w/floater or Caltracs

My wife & I race a 71 Demon w/a 440 & torqueflite with a 4.30 geared 8 & 3/4. It now has S/S springs, pinion snubber, 2 in lowering blocks for stance & 29x12x15 Hoosiers. I have been trying to decide which way to go for traction & better 60ft, ladder bars with floater or Caltracs with split mono...

    Subframes

I found what appears to be a very fine "71 Demon body, with the exception of very rusty front & rear subframes. Has any body replaced subframes & or floor pans. I would like to have details if possible, body support, glass removal, & engine & drive train removal during subframe & or floor pan...

    headers

We run a 440 + .040 in a '71 Demon, edelbrock heads, tti headers, & a Mopar mini starter. You have to remove left motor mount, loosen right motor mount, unbolt left side header, unbolt starter, lift engine about 3? inches, remove header & starter pretty much together, what a pain but worth it...

    headers

The only thing I've found wrong with TTI headers other than cost is replacing the starter, What a pain!!! Of course it may be easier if the Demon had a small block.
