    Power Steering Overflows

Yes I did. In frustration, I took the pump that I myself had rebuilt apart a 2nd time and discovered that I had put the cam ring (looks like a large chunk of machined metal) in backwards. There’s a directional arrow on it. Reassembled it and it worked. Eventually had the steering box rebuilt by...

    Differential Color Markings

Maybe its late, and I’m tired but how do I use these markings on 8 1/4 diff to reassemble? Its been apart a couple months and only disassembled enough to remove the c-clips so axles could be removed so that I could clean and paint the drum backing plates. We got both red and blue markings. How...

How to ID the rear axle?

In another thread I discovered that our Valiant has upgraded 8 1/4 diff and 11” rear drum brakes. HOW CAN I ID A Mopar AXLE to learn if it was factory installed, or more likely, someone upgraded from a donor mobile? And if the latter then what model was it most like to have come from? Any place...

    Drum brake - initial adjustment

11” x 2” rear drum brake: how much gap or space should I initially have? New 11” drums being put on. Are there (near) exact measurements or just feel? I have a drum/brake measuring tool. Have’t done drums myself in 30 years. All advice welcome! Thanks and have a fun summer Saturday night!

What size is my rear brake drum?

Follow up: When I finally got 11 x 2 1/2 inch shoes, and struggled installing, and bruising that left thumb with several spring retractions, I discovered the correct size brakes are 11” x 2”. Live snd learn. Will be posting 11 x 2.5” shoes for sale.

What size is my rear brake drum?

Thanks for the replies from all! After a long time delaying 2 years and finally fighting with lock lugs (missing key) I found myself scratching my head when I expected small 9” drums under the wheels and then saw these big things. So what parts do I replace with? I plan on ordering online. Do I...

What size is my rear brake drum?

Front are manual disk brakes and I recently replaced pads with stock size. All four wheels were upgraded (by previous owner) to American Racing 14” in a 5 x 4.5” pattern.

What size is my rear brake drum?

1974 Valiant Brougham /6 two door hardtop and all original parts. Should be 9” (9x2) but the drum markings state max diameter 11.090”. I measured the backing plate and its 12”. Inside diameter of drum is 11”. Could the Brougham had some weird upgraded brakes? Even on a slant six? I need to...

    Slant six rear main seal

I replaced my rear main seal on my /6 two years ago by dropping the transmission and flex plate. Then removed the drag link and the oil pan. At that point the main seal is there for the taking (and replacing). Cleaned up and painted the pan before reassembly. Worked great. No more leaks from any...

Rubber Bands on my front brakes?

I just found this from a 2008 forum post but I still dont understand.

Rubber Bands on my front brakes?

While doing front end work I noticed an odd thing: rubber bands hanging off the caliber! They are actually caught under the bolt on brackets so its not road garbage. Had the car a few years and haven’t had any brake work done since buying the car (74 Valiant). Why would someone intentially place...

So which one did you end up with? How did it work? I'm in the market now and looking at both these brands.

Kit, individual parts or other to rebuild front end

Is there a good kit to buy or is it better to buy the parts individually to have good parts for the rebuild? Or is there an upgrade that would be better while I have it apart? What did you choose?

    pin stuck in steering coupling

Guys! Its OUT! Thank you everyone for contributing! Took a little of all your advice: braced it, wack directly first with hammer, flipped it over on other side, and got the proper size flat punch, and lots of penetrating oil. Can't thank you enough! I love this forum!

    pin stuck in steering coupling

Spent 6 hours trying to remove the in on the coupling with no success. Trying to remove the power steering box in order to rebuild. Tried pounding out with numerous punches, screwdrivers, rods, nails, etc. Also tried drilling but I only wood bits. Also tried removing steering column but it...

Centerlink install - hard to turn wheel now

3 Never removed the idler. Tried to but the engine was still installed and couldn't remove the bolt without detaching the engine mounts, and since the transmission was removed I didn't want to do a balancing act. Will check it tonight once the c-link removed. Thank you!
