The lifters were in a kit with the cam.

Your dead on. Upon further inspection I found the cam damaged as well . The lobe was worn considerably. I unfortunately am not always up on things like the low zinc so it bit me in the ***.

At this point I wouldn't argue that the cup end may have been an oiling problem but the ball is not. More than enough oil sitting on top of the lifter. I can dig it out of the trash but all you going to see is a tube with no end. The ball just crumbled and fell off.

Everything is oiling good, I have done this already. The cup end I can see being other issues but the ball end falling apart concerns me more. If I knew that it was just the one and do I would feel better.

This is one of the few times I did my homework. The rocker holes are clean and I used new banana groved shafts from I think Hughes. I think that maybe the cup could have been an oiling issue or a rough adjuster but the ball on the other was definitely a manufacturer defect.

Really the cam would reflect what converter to run but if your going backwards, a 2500 stall for a street car is great.

Just installed my Turbo Action shifter. I moved the shifter back about were the ash tray was. I didn't want to cut up the original top so I cut out a plastic top and put carpet on it to finish it off. Might black out the wood grain yet on the console lid.
