318 head porting for the average joe

Its all about optimum port flow for the job at hand. If you are a grocery getter 318 then small ports are perfect. If you are a 7000rpm screaming 318 (@+60)/340/360 then X-heads will be fine for you...

    SB vs BB who wins?

Great thread to read between Christmas and new YEAR! I'm not sure if it mentioned during the thread, is the poor lifter angle of a stock smallblock? Availability is a governing factor in any build. But if you is going serious HP then a 400-230 block is the best! Then there is the 'lower' RPM...

A couple reasons why I hate doing port work after others

Can't find my Bob Mullen pictures? But here is the 1974 SB bible pics... The upper area of the ports are raised and brazed on the inlet sides

A couple reasons why I hate doing port work after others

Nice thread apart from the strange ramblings in the middle? I always port for myself and (maybe) sell the heads as 'done' (sometimes). Most folks don't know diddly squat about the time and effort that goes into them! So you are lucky to get any 'recompense' from wannabe drag racers at ALL. A...

Probably a real dumb question but ....

Does the use of forced induction negate the need for compression? We are doing a 9 to 1 comp. 528ci hemi build with twin turbo's next year. Big cubes, big blowers and cheap GAS is all we can afford. Race fuel is way too expensive 'these days' for a pensioner like me... Lots of room in a...

    Bumper Boyz... Stay Away!!!

Sorry to hear about Chroming issues! We flew over from the UK and picked up TWO very nice Bumper Boyz bumpers @ $600 each (70 GTX). We shipped them back in the back of my D200 truck and all was good. That was nearly fifteen years ago and the bumpers are still looking fine! Looking to get a pair...

    Ruined heads?

Port entry on a J head is fine as STOCK! Someone saw a picture of the famous 305ci T/A heads and did a copy... I would use them for porting practice and then BIN 'EM. J heads are not that rare, even in the UK... I have some Weslake Engineering UK, cut away J-heads and they look fairly stock.

318 head porting for the average joe

I know its 50's technology but we still love our 318 poly engine here in the UK. I'm gonna do a Hinkles 402 clone next. Now we are talking serious 318 porting! Not for the average Joe I'm guessing...

318 head porting for the average joe

I was just answering to 'Mopar official' that I was doing some 440 iron heads at the moment. The clever guys that did this work back in the 80 and 90's won't do it anymore! The thought of them doing a 318 head would give them a coronary lol... What is an average JOE? Me and hundreds of others...

318 head porting for the average joe

Me personally, I am re-doing a 440 (ICE) race engine with iron heads. ICE automotive UK, built a iron headed 440 for my Dart back in the 80's. It ran 9.90.s N/A on street tyres and race GAS! I sold the car and the engine when times were tough (early 2000's), so I am doing a copy. Rob Loreing...

318 head porting for the average joe

Its the old problem of the better your 'drag car' is the worse your street car will be! Big free flowing ports will be rubbish for grocery getting and gas consumption... I have visited Cali/Florida many times in the 21st century and saw very few street driven Mopars. Gas was $1.50 back in the...

My 273 1/4 Mile Time Slip With Video

318 head porting for the average joe

Lets gets back to porting and platitudes for Christmas! Dare I mention David Vizard here? He has some interesting ideas and has done lots for us Brits. There was a time that the 'powers to be' decreased port volumes for high speed flow. But when that was applied the the infamous 426 hemi, it...

How about a 'Poly 318' page for us diehards lol

Nice replies Guys! The Dart is/was a UK built car with a 547ci (400 low deck engine) with B1 heads. Bruno lenco and fully street legal. It ran in a street class, DOT tyres (pump gas) back in the 90's and ran 8.30 @ 175! Those were the days indeed.:thumbsup::thumbsup: Over to FBBO...

hello Mopar Folks, I suppose it strange that a overseas Moparman would ask for a Poly page? But I love all Mopar engines especially the Poly! As the small -block era begins in earnest (no one can afford big blocks now) the Poly will come back into fashion again? Anyways just a small page for...

    Shipping to the UK?

Hello folks, I have been a Moparman for forty years now! In the olden days (pre 2000) we used local parts suppliers for our Moparts. But now we have the internet and we ship 'door to door'!
