1969 Race Dart w/ 426 Hemi- garaged for 45+ years

Ran into your reply and it reminded me of a conversation I had with a friend that works as an engineer related to fire. He told me that magnesium burns at 1500 degrees Celcius and the reason it continues to burn in water is that at 1500 degrees it actually separates the oxygen and hydrogen atoms...

1969 Race Dart w/ 426 Hemi- garaged for 45+ years

Found out the car I bought a 68 Dart Hemi was a car that was most likely drag raced in the 70’s from work that was done. Car was a converted 6 cylinder car which I knew when i bought it. Had a fabricated deep sump oil pan with the hole for the suspension to run through it, swing arm pickup...

1969 Race Dart w/ 426 Hemi- garaged for 45+ years

Somewhere I remember reading that the two holes in the middle where the bellcrank pivots give away that it is magnesium. Too lazy to go look it up to verify. A&A transmission is a good resource btw they repop the crossram in aluminum. Painted my magnesium crossram in Hemi orange to match the...

1969 Race Dart w/ 426 Hemi- garaged for 45+ years

Was a Combat Engineer in a previous life, can tell you that lighting magnesium isn’t easy unless it’s in the form of shavings or powder in which case it’s almost like gunpowder. Never tried to put it out once we got it lit but we were told to try and cut off the oxygen source with mud if we...

1969 Race Dart w/ 426 Hemi- garaged for 45+ years

The crossrams in 68 used on the Hemi dart were old stock from 1964. My magnesium crossram is legit for a 68 Dart but dated 64, by 68 the remaining inventory was available mostly aluminum, the magnesium crossrams were produced in lower numbers. I am thinking A/MP, but Pro Stock for a year or two...

1969 Race Dart w/ 426 Hemi- garaged for 45+ years

The crossram was a super stock piece in 68 by the early 70’s to mid 70’s tunnel rams were used in pro stock on the darts for a couple years that included updates to the body to keep it legal, because the body was a 69 and not changed and the owner has a trophy from 72 the car was most likely run...

1969 Race Dart w/ 426 Hemi- garaged for 45+ years

At the risk of Cool Whipps telling me to keep my opinion to myself, make no mistake the crossram is a race intake. Basically it is a tunnel ram with the runners laid down horizontally instead of vertical on the tunnel ram. With the crossram run the correct part number Holley carbs that work in...

68 Race Hemi Cross Ram Color

Got it, but knowing the difference is important, hemi darts and barracudas were race cars with race hemis not street hemis yet the discussion of the correct color for these cars continues when it is obviously race hemi orange.

68 Race Hemi Cross Ram Color

Agreed lots painted incorrectly causing some of the confusion. I have seen and looked at many of the original cars over the years/decades. Dave’s looks good to me, interested in seeing how the paint I have looks when it’s done.

68 Race Hemi Cross Ram Color

Probably uncalled for but the bottom line is there is only one correct color and it’s race hemi orange. I went through this myself and got the paint from Baldason. The motor should be done and painted soon. I think Dave did a great job painting his motor looks close to me. My apologies for being...

68 Race Hemi Cross Ram Color

Looks great, has the yellow tint from what I can see. My motor should be going together soon as the assembly should be balanced and back from the machine shop this week. If I get a chance I will post a pic of the motor with the Baldason race hemi orange, Nice motor Dave

68 Race Hemi Cross Ram Color

The engines were painted race hemi orange. Because...they were race hemis....duh..use your brain or buy the restoration book before you spout off...you know everything why even join the discussion. Good luck finding the correct hemi orange without going to someone who is highly respected like...

68 Race Hemi Cross Ram Color

Race hemi orange as stated on the other post is correct, it is a yellow orange when compared to street hemi orange, the easy way to get it is contact Frank Baldason he has the correct PPG color code and will sell you a can of paint.

    SS/B Barracuda project

NHRA put the Kabosh on the Porsche seats. The test mule served the purpose of seeing what would be allowed by NHRA In addition to evaluating performance. They floated the idea, NHRA said no. Makes sense if you consider that Porsche seats aren’t really a Chrysler end product not even a US end...

    SS/B Barracuda project

Chrysler’s intention to use Porsche Speedster seats in a limited production run for Super Stock was dubious and pushing the intention of the production available rules that pertained to Super Stock, after seeing it maybe...the NHRA said no way...so Chrysler revived the lightweight seats from...

    1968 hemi dart, well almost

The car was raced in the sixties close to its current state, updating it to look like a modern car is something I would not do. There are plenty of tubbed race cars and pro street cars available, and 68 Darts aren’t in short supply. There are not many factory style hemi darts with a race history...

    1968 hemi dart, well almost

The car has a race history having been constructed in 69 it could have potentially been run in SS/B or SS/A, possibly A/MP or B/MP, or even as a Pro Stock car. Finding out the racing history and as raced condition is critical to valuing the car. It’s not an original but it raced as a Hemi Dart...

What PARTS did Hurst and Chrysler put in the Super Stock Barracuda & Dart not in other factory cars

I believe 376 (the second fan) with the 070 clutch. My opinion from looking at real restored L023 cars online and in magazine articles I have collected.

Which X ram, aluminum, magnesium, or the Mopar ???

From what I have read and I didn’t get into it much the removable tops allow for internal flow mods and they overall flow better due to the casting process, ultimately being worth 20 hp. But having a 1965 magnesium cross ram is way cool imo. As you can see the top is cast and not removable...

Which X ram, aluminum, magnesium, or the Mopar ???

I have a magnesium 1965 crossram in my 68 Dart. From what I have read the magnesium’s are more plentiful than aluminum. The intakes with the bolt on tops are supposed to be good for 20 more hp. I like the vintage look of the originals Just depends on what you are going for
