    oil pan gasket

I'm curious why the notch exists in the first place? Is there a functional reason for it, or just a design change from LA -> Magnum Block?

    oil pan gasket

Resurrecting an old thread, but I think this is a great place to keep this information in one spot. I'm undergoing this issue right now. I am using a Magnum Block, M302 Kevko Pan, and a LA Timing cover. There seems to be 3 methods that I've been reading about: 1) Method One...

    408 Magnum Stroker Build...cam selection

I didn't ask your opinion about how you felt about comp cams. I didn't ask your opinion about whether you like hydraulic rollers or not. It was your choice to come **** on these things that will not change. In-fact, I don't want your opinion at this point, so please scroll by. What I am asking...

    408 Magnum Stroker Build...cam selection

Wow, this thread is going nowhere on answering my question. It went from having to describe I have a magnum, to saying I have to get a custom cam otherwise nothing will work (hogwash), to 110 will not work with exhaust manifolds so I should get a less efficient 114 cam (hogwash), and to now...

    408 Magnum Stroker Build...cam selection

Sorry about that, yep, the "XR". Kinda confusing because they are "XR" in the "XE" line, heh! I want something very street-able, but also can unleash. My hopes for this build is getting into the 13s while still looking very stock. Hope to have something very durable as well. Like a little bit...

    408 Magnum Stroker Build...cam selection

Thanks. Yes, I believe they are roller rockers as well. My builder would like me to stick with a comp cam on that list. I don't necessarily want to "optimize" for my stock manifolds, but I don't want something to seem wrong or incorrect. Like I stated the manifolds are there for the near to...

    408 Magnum Stroker Build...cam selection

I have read as much as I could about the 274, but it's a little inconclusive because lots of people are throwing it into 300-350 CUI engines. I would think a 408 would treat it different. I will be ordering new lifters with the XE274 (or whatever I decide). Going to stay with hydraulic roller...

    408 Magnum Stroker Build...cam selection

Hi everyone, These place has always been a superb wealth of information. I thought I would also ask you guys for advice again. I'd like to confirm one last thing: Cam + converter. I am hoping to reuse my factory 1970 "high stall" converter from my 340. The specs in the FSM shows that it has a...

Converting Carter AVS to electric choke

Haven't swapped the electric choke on there yet, but here's my desk build of my period-correct 340 stuff! Curious if there's any "seat of the pants" feel of this setup after tuning over stock '70 340 Intake and stock 630 AVS carb. I always liked the idea/design of AVS carbs vs AFB carbs. If...

Converting Carter AVS to electric choke

Got it. $50. Looks like a decent AFB. All choke stuff intact. I’ll swap next week!

Converting Carter AVS to electric choke

Nope, didn't send much else. I requested pic from seller of choke area + linkage. He's sending soon. I'll fwd it when it comes in. Should bolt right up...

I found a AFB on Craigslist with electric choke. Will post updates when I have it and start doing the transplant.

Or just cave in and buy the Edelbrock kit....which I’ll probably do. Throw away the rest.

Converting Carter AVS to electric choke

Sounds like the housing, choke unit itself, and the rod is all I need.....

Converting Carter AVS to electric choke

thanks guys. Yep, I need what it takes to make it work. The Edelbrock kit is like $75 but you only wind up using 30% of the parts I think....

Converting Carter AVS to electric choke

BEAUTIFUL. Where'd you get that choke housing, and where did you wire it to? Another question: did you make that linkage rod? You don't seem to recall the screw size/tap size/pitch on what it needs to be, do you? Awesome...I finally found a partner in crime. It is impossible to find help on...

Converting Carter AVS to electric choke

Thanks Rumble...i'm hoping to not mess with any of my linkages. They're all suited for the AVS carb, so that side should be fine the way it is. I'm working on a 340 ebody that's all original. My plan is to remove the intake and carb as one unit for originality and to plant an LD340 intake with a...

Converting Carter AVS to electric choke

Thanks Rumble! Could use your help....The kickdown is unrelated to the choke, correct? I could buy the Edelbrock Electric choke set, but I would prefer something like what you did....that has a black mechanism not a chromed edelbrock looking thing. So #1: find a proper looking choke (black)...

Converting Carter AVS to electric choke

Maybe I'm over thinking it, but you can simply drill out those bosses, remove the vacuum nipple and insert a brass insert....and it should bolt right up....and I missing something? Choke pull off would get removed....

Converting Carter AVS to electric choke

Hi everyone, I've done quite a bit of research and have found a couple threads throughout the web, but I'm still left with some open questions of 1) what do I buy, 2) how hard is this to do, and 3) do I need to do any drilling? I have a 440 AVS 750CFM carb which is going on an LD340 intake...

[WANTED] WTB: Carter AVS 440 Carb

Thanks Jim, hell of appreciated. I'm running a 1/2" insulator gasket in order to minimize heat-soak issues. Sounds like those butter flies should open without a doubt.. Sounds like the bolt threading is even the same... Good point about intake primaries. Curious to see her run as is with 3.73...

[WANTED] WTB: Carter AVS 440 Carb

That would be awesome. I'm being told that I'm overthinking it, and that it will work and it's a proven way for more ponies if you're up for an evening of tuning! Much appreciated if so.

[WANTED] WTB: Carter AVS 440 Carb

Hmmm. Well it supposedly was a popular thing to do in the day. I wonder what the actual measurement of the intake primary bores are...I would be shocked if it didn't work...then I would wonder how exactly it became a popular thing to do if it didn't work?

[WANTED] WTB: Carter AVS 440 Carb

Thanks. Any 750 CFM that can work for auto will work and divorced choke will work. This is for a '70 340...doing the "look stock and go fast" easy 440 AVS upgrade. :) Assuming that a 750 AVS should just bolt right up, is my understanding correct? I'll get back to some of you that have posted...

Any Saginaw Power Steering Pump Experts?

Alright guys! I went to yet another part store to look at a reman pump. That had easily over .020 without a doubt...it felt more than mine. So all pumps I am finding play. I transferred the guts of the NAPA pump into my stock pump and assembled it. Interestingly, the NAPA pump had the cam...

Any Saginaw Power Steering Pump Experts?

Alright. I remeasured my pump's play and got .018. I said .020 before. So pretty close. This reman pump from NAPA I measure .012. There is another part store that has one in stock. What should I do?
