so I bought one and installed it, haven't tried to start it because replacing spark plugs and letting them sit overnight in ATF, but i read the volts on the ignition coil and its getting 12 volts, tried switching the wires around on the resistor that didn't change it. So I have a 1983 dodge W150 with the 318 engine all stock, just recently got it as a starter project truck. Pretty new to mechanical work and will need some help. So the problem is it stalls and dies, I turn the key and start it turns over, and will run as long as I keep the key held down. As...

  8. MoparTrucker

    5.9 Magnum Torque motor build?

So the reason I had thought that was because of the turbo diesels, the turbo Cummins makes tons of power real low, @3,000. That might just be a diesel thing, IDK.

    5.9 Magnum Torque motor build?

Haha I'll go with both of those assumptions on me. True, I'm just wanting to make sure I get all my options out of the way before I decide to go with something, I truly am very cheap so wanting to make sure I'm getting the most bang for my buck I can get while attempting every DIY possible lol...

    5.9 Magnum Torque motor build?

Agreed. Another option i heard was using the low compression boosting the 318?? If I went with that I'd hate taking the engine apart just to regap the rings. New cam, springs, ring gap and call it? What are some thought on that

    5.9 Magnum Torque motor build?

With the swap what do I need to be expecting? What parts should I expect to buy and how much will I be spending to swap it? With any budget left over what are some suggestions for more low end torque power performance parts? Also should I run stock cam if I do cam advance?

    318 LA torque?

So would my best option with my budget just be upgrade the top end with Cam advance?
  18. MoparTrucker

    318 LA torque?

Is there a way I can stroke the 318 but run stock connecting rods and pistons? If I can do the bottom end on a budget I'd do that but everyone says to upgrade the whole bottom end?

    5.9 Magnum Torque motor build?

So far my inventory is at 0 I have none bought yet. On heads I was thinking about the 302 swirl ports? I knew aftermarket heads would really use up the budget so I thought about used heads and port them if that's a good idea? Then cam advance? I plan on using the stock front end if that dosnt...

    5.9 Magnum Torque motor build?

I have a 1983 dodge d150 4wd 4 speed has the 318 ALL stock. I'm wanting to make a low end torque grunt street vehicle on a $2,000 budget. I've talked about it and thinking about swapping out to a 5.9 Magnum. On the 5.9 Magnum I want to know what I can do to get more lower end torque abstaining...

    318 LA torque?

Okay that sounds nice, more on the swap side of things, I've heard of mini turbos but are there any that can give boost at low levels of rpm? I'd like to play around with some engine building either way, so what about a 5.9 mag w/ new valve springs? Also is the heads on it good leaving stock...

    318 LA torque?

See I've looked into that swap, I guess my opinion on that is I like carburated engines because I have tried to work with FI engines it seems harder. Would the magnum take a straight carb swap and would it be worth it? If so, for the 5.9 what carb would you suggest?
  24. MoparTrucker

    318 LA torque?

Would running either of those stock be good enough? I thouhgt about the Magnum heads but they require the intake.

    318 LA torque?

I have a 318 1983 ALL stock in my 1983 d150 it runs great for how old it is and I'm wanting to make a low end torque house engine build out of it on a rough under $2,000 budget. I'm wanting to get new cam, and possibly valve train, I don't want to go too big on heads, I was thinking the 302...
