Thanks to your post I now have a certain Paul Simon song playing in my head. You can probably guess which one.

I just saw this thread so I hope no one is bothered that I'm resurrecting it with a new post. A rather long time ago when I was going to school to get my FAA license I took a job at a huge and fascinating used book store in Burbank Ca. The first day there Mitch, one of my coworkers, overheard me...

Dash Pad Question for 75 Duster

If they had, my dash pad would already be on its way over there. They told me directly that with nothing to go on they would have to guess at the proper shape, and they have no stored records or reference material to fall back on. I was reading comments in the archives a few weeks ago looking...

Dash Pad Question for 75 Duster

It's a 75 Plymouth Duster. I've had the car since 1981 so I'm more than a little attached to it and I'm trying to get things done right as I go along.

Dash Pad Question for 75 Duster

My dash pad foam has completely collapsed leaving the pad a shapeless and thoroughly disfigured wreck. As such I can't send it to Just Dashes for restoration. Per the conversation I had with one of their reps when I visited their shop in Van Nuys last week they determine the shape a pad should...

73 Dart Sport Dash Panels removal.

I does in the sense that you can look down through the exposed slots in the top of the dash and see where many of the fasteners are hiding. You may even be able to reach some of the with the right tools.

73 Dart Sport Dash Panels removal.

There’s no easy way to do this job. I had the windshield out and the dash rocked aft on the lower mount bolts for easier access and still carved up my hands and arms reaching the nuts. If you’re planning to reuse the panels those plastic studs break off at the slightest provocation. Without...

My 75 Finally Gets The Attention It Deserves(This Could Take a While)

I finished sanding down the right side of the body this weekend and found another problem. I can't find any off the shelf patch panels for this area so hopefully something can be fabricated without too much trouble. I'd really like these repairs to be done properly so that they don't need to be...

    NEW Road House Movie.

I thought Hailee Steinfeld did a fantastic job with her character and wasn’t obnoxiously stilted in her lines the way the previous actress had been in the original. So as much as I like watching a good John Wayne movie I prefer this remake to the original. The only real complaint I have is with...

My 75 Finally Gets The Attention It Deserves(This Could Take a While)

That's exactly what I was thinking as they explained the process to me. I know there are other shops out there that redo the dash pads and I can buy one they have on the shelf and send my steel core in for a discount, or I believe some of those shops will rebuild a proper pad around my core. I...

My 75 Finally Gets The Attention It Deserves(This Could Take a While)

I was out in California for my nephew's wedding this past week and stopped by Just Dashes in Van Nuys to see what they could do for my Duster. I'm glad I did because I learned something critical about their dash pad repair process. They try to replicate the original shape of a dash pad based on...

My 75 Finally Gets The Attention It Deserves(This Could Take a While)

There's no denying this was a really fun car to drive, which is why I held on to it. I always imagined I'd get it back on the road at some point, I just didn't realize I'd be sixty by then.

My 75 Finally Gets The Attention It Deserves(This Could Take a While)

I’m not sure how I could determine the build date. The drivers door data tag has only blank spaces where the info should appear. I had a wood grain instrument bezel originally, my parking lights are clear, and I have a hand operated parking brake.

My 75 Finally Gets The Attention It Deserves(This Could Take a While)

My Duster has a 76 model year instrument bezel. My original was badly warped by the heat of the central Texas summertime sun. When I ordered a new one from the Dodge dealership in Glendale to replace it that's what they gave me, and to be honest I liked it much better than the wood grain...

My 75 Finally Gets The Attention It Deserves(This Could Take a While)

I got the dash out today so that it can be restored while the car is in the body shop. What a nightmare. My car clearly doesn't like me reaching up under her skirts as she's bitten the hell out me in the process. I'll survive, but my forearms and hands are nicely carved up and bloody from the...

    Ignition problem

My 318 did this for several months before it died completely. A timing light showed the timing mark jumping around which left my dad scratching his head wondering what would cause that. The answer wasn’t long in coming. My engine had nylon teeth molded onto the timing gear. Either the teeth had...

    Ignition problem

Are you saying that it will crank endlessly until you back the key off to the run position, and then it finally starts?

    Your first mopar...?

The tank is an M60A1. This picture was taken in late 1982 during a major field exercise. We lost our tank commander due to a head injury(he was hit by a tree branch as I drove past it) and while he was away getting medical attention the engine blew. We spent the rest of that exercise waiting for...

    Your first mopar...?

This is my first Mopar. I didn’t own it, but I was assigned to it as a driver. It was the first vehicle of any kind that I was licensed to drive and it was the tank I was assigned to until I got out of the service. In this photo it’s broken down in the field waiting for a new pack to arrive.

My 75 Finally Gets The Attention It Deserves(This Could Take a While)

Just a quick couple of pictures as it's almost ready to go into the shop. I saved the hardest part for last since I don't bend in the middle like I used to. Sanding those lower areas is going to be brutal. On much of the body the paint was so rotten and brittle that I was able to remove all but...

My 75 Finally Gets The Attention It Deserves(This Could Take a While)

My original interior was white and the seats were all vinyl, no cloth inserts. The drivers seat was a little bent out of shape as if a rather large person had spent a lot of time behind the wheel, so I replaced the front bucket seats with a pair from a junkyard back when Dusters were common. The...

My 75 Finally Gets The Attention It Deserves(This Could Take a While)

I just spent over 3400 dollars on parts today and I’m not done yet. More will be needed before this is finished. The shocker was the wait time for the seat covers. Thirty five weeks! Whaaaaaaat???? Meanwhile the paint removal continues and I’ve found Bondo on every single panel, and all at...

My 75 Finally Gets The Attention It Deserves(This Could Take a While)

More paint removal today and found more Bondo, this time on the right rear quarter panel and on top of the trunk lid towards the rear. What the hell happened to this car before I got it? The damage on the trunk is minor, but this nonsense on the quarter panel when combined with the corrosion it...

My 75 Finally Gets The Attention It Deserves(This Could Take a While)

It really was. Talk about a stroke of luck! In other news, since I don't want to pay a body shop for work I can do myself I've been removing the layers of old paint and have found a few surprises. It looks like the car was repainted at least once before I got it, and not just in a few places...

I just wanted to say, Andy, the level of work seen in those photos is outstanding. No A body rolling straight off the assembly line ever looked that good.

The bars came from the Glendale Speed Center on Brand Blvd in Glendale Ca and the brackets were part of the kit.

    Front sway bar question

It’s not hard at all. My 75 Duster had no sway bar in front or rear from the factory. I installed aftermarket bars in both positions back in the mid eighties using only basic hand tools. It made a huge difference in the way the car handled. It’s been quite awhile since I did the install, but I...
