    Fiber thrust washer

Well it certainly was a comedy of errors on my part as his was my first attempt at an automatic. But that has been the case with every new project for the last four decades. Nothing ever goes as planned, I always need more parts than I thought, and it generally takes three times as long as...

Just to give an update. Transmissionpartsusa is not someone I would recommend anyone use. I tried to call them and no answer. Left voice mails and no response. Emailed them and got a response the same day. The person who responded had no first hand knowledge of what they sold me. She told me...

    Fiber thrust washer

So I received the 1960 - 1977 A904 thrust washer set from transmissionpartsusa. Not one single thrust washer in the set matches anything that is in my 1967 transmission. I have verified the numbers on the casing as 67 numbers. So either someone has exchanged guts or this thrust washer kit is...

    Fiber thrust washer

Yep. i also remembered the larger fiber one on the back of the oil pump. I think this being my first time doing this I underestimated the wear on the thrust washers in general and the whole thing is just sloppy. I ordered a complete thrust washer set last night.

So the thrust washer set from transmissionpartsusa says it is for 72 forward. Anyone used this set or have any idea whether it will fit my 67 as well. Picture looks right but have learned not to trust internet sales pics. TF6 A904 A998 A999 Transmission Thrust Washers TF6 A904 A998 A999

I'm measuring with the dial indicator clamped to the bell housing with it flat on it's back. Push input all the way in, zero, pull out. Just by feel it seems like a lot and as you can see measuring 0.020 over max. Guess of I didn't have to do it at least twice I wouldn't learn anything.

    Fiber thrust washer

LOL. My words not yours. The washers under the planetary gears looked pretty good with just normal wear but if I am going back in I guess I should spring for an entire set. Is transmissionpartsusa a good source because Rockauto is good for a lot of things but apparently not auto transmission...

    Fiber thrust washer

So a question a likely already know the answer to. Just got to the point in my rebuild of the original 67 A904 from the Barracuda. I failed to check my end play before disassembly. Checking it now after reassembly I have 0.110". Service manual says specs are between 0.022" and 0.091". I...

    HELP! I bought a mess?

Unfortunately the suspected culprit of the antifreeze leak is the freeze plug on the back of the block on the passengers side under the automatic transmission bell housing. That's ok. While I have it out it will get cleaned up, all new gaskets, the correct paint job after losing those hideous...

    HELP! I bought a mess?

So I was able to get out to the garage on this great Veteran's Day. Thank you for your service to all of my brothers and sisters on here. I was able to run a compression test on the 273 n the car. The motor seems to have tested out pretty well. Results were: 1 - 128, 2 - 132, 3 - 130, 4 -...

    HELP! I bought a mess?

Well that plan certainly has my attention but I ran it past the wife and she gave me the stink eye and reminded me I already have my car and this one is for her...LMAO. Looks like the first step will be pulling the motor and keeping my fingers crossed that all it needs is a full gasket kit.

    HELP! I bought a mess?

Well since there were no VIN stampings on the blocks in 67 all I can say is it is a 1967 short block yes. I have the correct 1967 date coded intake with 2bbl carb (#2536559). It would appear from the knowledge here I have the correct original rockers and push rods. The original heads are long...

    HELP! I bought a mess?

Right?! I know it is really going to come down to what I find when I pull it and tear into it and start a deep inspection. Hopefully in the coming weeks. I really appreciate all the info to help me decide if it is worth the trouble or not.

    HELP! I bought a mess?

Good to know the swap was no big deal back in the day. I was worried researching initially when I was told they were 340 heads and everything I read said that was bad news on the 273. Knowing that since it hasn't self destructed and they are likely the 360 version of this casting and was...

Nope you are right. Someone repainted it previously. It is stamped C273 but it is definitely the wrong color.

    HELP! I bought a mess?

Now that I found my feeler gauges... The largest gap I can find, not knowing exactly which cylinder is where currently because I haven't yet pulled the plugs and bumped the motor around is currently #1 exhaust with 0.025.

    HELP! I bought a mess?

I have looked a little into the engine quest heads but my impression of them is that they use all of the magnum parts on them and that the older rockers will not work on them. Am I incorrect?

    HELP! I bought a mess?

Thanks. Let me clarify a little. I have rebuilt more than a few mid 70's to 80's Chrysler small blocks and the one 440 I have in my Roadrunner right now. I did all of the restoration on the RR to include all of the interior with the exception of the paint and body work and the seat...

    HELP! I bought a mess?

Ok so more trouble than likely worth in machine work. So what I am getting from the group for options is: 1) Rebuild the combo I have on the 273 2) Find an older 360 short block and rebuild it with the top end I have for the better heads and adjustable rockers 3) Get a reman magnum long block...

    HELP! I bought a mess?

I really appreciate all of the responses. This is great information. Here is an outside the box thought. I have the early 360 heads with 273 adjustable rockers and the LD340 intake. I have a 2001 360 magnum whose short block is good (still has cross hatching on the cylinder walls and great...

    HELP! I bought a mess?

I was kind of thinking the same. As I said in the OP I have a 2001 360 magnum out of my old truck I was considering just getting a refurbished long block for, doing the Magnum swap, and using all of the original externals and dress ups for it to make it appear original. I have been reading...

    HELP! I bought a mess?

Smoking. Everything leaks, BAD. Most disturbing is there is an unmixed coolant leak at the back passenger side of the motor running down the scatter shield on the trans that I can confirm is not coming from the head so must be coming from one of the freeze plugs on the back of the motor under...

    HELP! I bought a mess?

This is my first post with the forum. I have a moderate amount of mechanical experience. Please forgive the length but I want to give the most information I can upfront. I recently purchased a 1967 Barracuda convertible from my uncle who owned it for the last 15 years. He was not very...
