Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

If you go back and look at the pics I posted, the stud on the alternator is SUPER close to hitting the fabricated aluminum valve cover. I have shaft mounted roller rockers that require tall valve covers so the alternator with the side mount battery lug will be a great solution.

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

Oh hell yeah, I’m going to track down one of those alternators for sure so I don’t have to dent the valve cover

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

A smaller idler will probably work. I was lucky and got a non-A/C alternator bracket with the relocated idler position to clear. Regardless, it's a pain in the butt to put this all together lol.

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

I'm not sure if mine is the 117A or 136A but I believe the cases are the same. I tried to go the same alternator mount as you but the van PS pump mount caused the belt to rub the water pump pulley because the idler pulley locations on the A/C and non-A/C alternator mounts are in different locations.

GREAT build! I just read the whole thing and am very impressed with the attention to detail!

    69 Dart 340 Swinger Street/Road Race build

The second 2 pics is after I initially trimmed the inside radius. Then I trimmed the last little bit because I didn't like 1/8" of clearance. I did pull my engine to do this so I could see your frustrations in trimming yours. I was going to put a QA1 K-member in and I think I will hold off. The...

    69 Dart 340 Swinger Street/Road Race build

Yes, the kick outs protrude quite a bit. I trimmed 3/4” off the entire K-member around the inside radius and it was barely enough to clear, especially the passenger side. Here’s some pics of the extra I trimmed on the passenger side just recently.

    69 Dart 340 Swinger Street/Road Race build

They are 18x9.5" squared +25 rear and +35 offset front. I'm still making progress, but nothing worth posting about. Spending a lot of time gathering Magnum accessory brackets to make the serpentine set up work. I'll be drilling the front of my heads soon to bolt up the Magnum brackets to LA...

    Anyone waiting on Hotchkis parts!?

I had the same problem with a Hotchkis front sway bar, waited over 4 months for it. I will say that it was worth the wait. I originally ordered a Hellwig sway bar and sent it back. The Hotchkis is a very nice bar.

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

I'm still trying to track down a Magnum non/AC alternator bracket. Then I'm going to pull my engine and align the Magnum accessory brackets off the one hole one the bottom of each head and use transfer punches to mark the other holes needed. Then i'm going to drill and tap the heads for the...

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

Thank you, that looks really clean and barely noticeable. I think this is the best route and how I will move forward.

Thats not a bad idea. Can you post up a pic please.

    318 vs 360 opinion

I would find a good condition 5.9 and swap that in. The torque increase is a pretty noticeable difference between the two, especially down low where a street car needs it.

    318 vs 360 opinion

I've had a few of these Rams, including one with the Mopar performance computer requiring premium fuel. The 5.9 trucks still had a noticeable power increase, mostly bottom end torque. Also, I thought the 5.2 trucks had a hotter cam and tune from the factory than the 5.9 came with? My 5.9 trucks...

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

I would tend to agree if I were building a cruiser. But my car will be a high RPM road car and V-belts just wouldn't last long at all. I'm just glad I'll be able to finish my accessory drive with the parts I already have plus the van PS bracket I bought. Sometime function can look as good as...

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

I just looked it up and your engine is CLEAN, looks great! I'm glad others have made the truck serpentine set-ups look good. Most Magnum serpentine setups looks bulky and out of place on an A-body. I will hopefully make mine look as clean as yours and others.

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

Thank you for the offer. I actually just pulled it out of the old parts pile from the tear down from the magnum. My tool and die buddy stopped by last night and we have a pretty good plan. He’s going to machine a 1” template off the hole spacing on the iron magnum heads to use to layout and...

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

That's exactly what I did in the pic. There's a missing idler pulley above the water pump that the belt will go under before going to the PS pump. It will use a factory belt as well going this route.

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

Well I wanted to give a little update. I was able to locate a van PS bracket and got everything mocked up. I really like this setup and I think this is the way I will move forward. Only big drawback is I need to mark, drill, and tap 2 holes in the front of each cylinder head. Plus I need to trim...

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

I have a new regulator and harness from Ron Francis so that will cover the Magnum alternator. Can you post up some more pics of your alternator bracket. It looks like the one you have doesn't have the AC mount on it and is nice and clean looking.

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

I'm going to try and see what I have to do to make the Magnum stuff work. I already have the timing cover, water pump, alternator, 2 piece balancer & pulley, and R&P pump. It would be huge If I could make the van PS bracket work

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

I love your set up and that's exactly what I want. Unfortunately with LA heads, I don't have the required holes to bolt up the Magnum stuff anymore. I am kinda stuck converting to a LA timing cover/water pump so I can run the LA serpentine stuff that bolts to the water pump.

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

That is a great setup. After looking at my heads, I don’t have the holes necessary to run that type of PS bracket. Im guessing the March PS bracket with a LA timing cover is going to be my solution. I already have the low pressure pump so I think I’ll go with your recommendation to run it and...

This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Did March sell the PS bracket separate?

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

This looks perfect, but now that is presenting another problem with the fact that my heads are not drilled with most of the holes that this bracket needs.

This is my current setup. I have the magnum timing cover, water pump, and damper with crank pulley.

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

I have a street legal road race car with a built 5.9L Magnum and a 4spd in my 69' Dart Swinger. It will see regular 6,500RPM use with occasional 7,000RPM as well. I have a power steering box which requires a high pressure pump, not the low pressure pump that came on a Dakota with rack and...

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

The March kit was $688 for the pullies and brackets. Then I have to add a PS pump ($169), an alternator, and LA water pump. I just reread your post, and understand what you're saying. Get the March pulleys and source the brackets from the JY

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

I want to run an alternator and power steering pump. I went from a manual steering car to a Borgeson quick ratio PS steering box. I just didn't want to go through all the effort and expense of getting all the components together only to find out the low pressure pump doesn't work with my power...
