Really depends on what bend radius you want. I've bent lots of 1/4" OD steel tubing by hand using a piece of 2" PVC pipe as a mandrel.

Just a comment on locating cracks, I've had good luck just putting the parts in a hot parts washer and cooking them until they clean up. Take them out and let them dry, anywhere there is a crack there is a rust trail.

I've used clear ammonia to neutralize acids. It's a weak base and gets in all the crevices the acid did.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting what I see but the red high-temp RTV seems to last forever in a tube. In fact I just opened up a partially used tube that I know has been there for at least three years...no problem. Any other color, especially black, a couple months and it's set up under the cap.
