Small Block Cam Info - Magnum Head Swap

Finally got the motor pulled. Crank throws 1 and 3 were trashed, going to try to save the crank but don't have a ton of faith. It is a 360 roller block but has a flat tappet cam, also has the 308 casting head and everything still looks brand new minus the crank and rods. No ring ridge, and...

Junkyard 5.9 for my 72 Van

It does require suspension removal, the lower a arm is mounted to the subframe you remove. I just knocked the lower ball joint loose from the spindle and the drag link. Worked for my purpose but I wasn't planning on driving the donor vehicle afterwards.

Small Block Cam Info - Magnum Head Swap

Yes, I actually bought a cam from a member here and I'm trying to decide if I want to go that route or just get an off the shelf cam.

Small Block Cam Info - Magnum Head Swap

Just practicing his 12oz curls, gotta work on that muscle memory early. Going to have to swap wheels, I think I'm going to throw all the 8 lug stuff on it from the donor van.

Small Block Cam Info - Magnum Head Swap

More developments with the project. I ended up buying a ski boat with a Chrysler Marine 300SP (LA360) but it's blown up, the previous owner ran it out of oil, looks like the pressure switch failed. Anyways, I'm now thinking about trying to plug the magnum into the boat and use the LA in...

Junkyard 5.9 for my 72 Van

That's an awesome project, please provide us with some photos soon! I'm in the middle of doing a magnum swap in an 87 stubby van. If you have access to a lift you should look at dropping the motor with the subframe, I did it on the donor van and it worked pretty slick.

Small Block Cam Info - Magnum Head Swap

Rolling slow, as usual. Dropped the donor motor and trans from the church van over the weekend. Worked great dropping the subframe out vs trying to go out the front of the van. I've done it both ways and this was far and away the easier option if you have the equipment available. I couldn't...

[WANTED] Magnum rebuild parts, 67 Barracuda Drivers Front Fender

Wow, I guess I might have to hold off if that's the going rate for fenders. Makes me wish I would have just bought the 1,000 dollar parts car a few years ago.

[WANTED] Magnum rebuild parts, 67 Barracuda Drivers Front Fender

Well heck. I've got good stock stuff already but it never hurts to have extras. I'm sure shipping would be asinine on those heads.

[WANTED] Magnum rebuild parts, 67 Barracuda Drivers Front Fender

Looking for any used magnum hyd. roller cam, heads, intakes anything that would fit a mild 5.9 build. Motor goal RPM range 1,500-5,500. Also looking for a driver's side fender for 67 cuda, mine is missing so I would make do with a rough one if the price was right.

Small Block Cam Info - Magnum Head Swap

Thanks! From what I could find 1995 was the cut off so it does have the 46RH, crawled under it to double check before I loaded it up. Still need to figure out how I'm going to control it, seems like a couple toggle switches would work fine for the short term.

Small Block Cam Info - Magnum Head Swap

Well, my plans changed really fast. Found a 95 ram van with a mag 360, A518 and a Dana 60 full floating rear axle with limited slip so I guess I should just go straight into the swap. Got it home and it runs and drives, the trans does slip so I'll need to rebuild it but seems like a decent deal...

Small Block Cam Info - Magnum Head Swap

I was running into the lift issue because of the spring binding height, I may have the seal problem if I use different heads but I doubt I'll go over 0.500 lift if I put a cam in this 318.

Small Block Cam Info - Magnum Head Swap

I use the van so I don't want to tear it apart until i have everything to put it back together. We didn't crack it open when we pulled it from the truck. Wishing we would have now but we were short on time and we knew it was a good running 318. It had a new timing chain installed in it, we did...

Small Block Cam Info - Magnum Head Swap

I've stripped the lean burn, it's running normal chrysler electronic ignition. I'll definitely be putting the spread bore 4 barrel intake on, just wondering if I should bother with a cam/head swap at this point. Maybe I can keep my eyes pealed on here for something used. Would a set of mild...

Small Block Cam Info - Magnum Head Swap

Well I might be changing my plans, I got a free 360 last week and I think I have a line on a super cheap magnum 5.9. Now I'm torn about putting money into the 318, thinking about getting some 302 heads from the junkyard and doing a cam swap with the 4 barrel intake from the free truck motor...

Hopefully you can make some sense of it, it was kind of customized for my purposes but I can change it up if needed. Hopefully you can get some good out of it.

Small Block Cam Info - Magnum Head Swap

Max lift with 1.6 is 0.485 because of the spring height in the first post. I think a dwell nose cam is what I was trying to find but I didn't know the name or how to actually find one. With such low lift, I'd like to take advantage of the flow just below ~0.500 for the factory mag head (221cfm...

Small Block Cam Info - Magnum Head Swap

Started looking through the PDF here https://www.howardscams.com/sites/default/files/Howards2016_17_mid.pdf By looking off the catalogue the cam's denoted with the "15" are all too large for my application... Bummer.

Small Block Cam Info - Magnum Head Swap

Wyrmrider I've come to realize that I can't actually map the lobes out with the advertised, and 0.05" numbers since everyone's advertised is completely different. But I was curious if I could at least compare all the Comps since they should be apples to apples. If so the Comp 20-300-4 seems...

Small Block Cam Info - Magnum Head Swap

I'm using this as a learning experience, planning on applying whatever I learn to the small block I'll build for my 67 barracuda (why I joined the A body forum and posted about a van motor). I've definitely been looking at upping the static compression but getting a cam with an early intake...

Small Block Cam Info - Magnum Head Swap

Wyrmrider, I laid some mopar cam's into the graph and the difference was pretty drastic. Thanks for the schooling! The graph for the Crane 15005 is below, the ramp from advertised to 0.050 is really shallow... fit for a small diameter lifter. The Mopar purple shaft MOPP4452761AE is below...

Small Block Cam Info - Magnum Head Swap

318willrun, thanks for the info! I got some push rods picked out based on that! I got the link to work and added some more cams. This time I threw in some Mopar cams that would work and I think I understand what Wymer was referencing. The mopar cams have a ton more duration than the other cams...

Small Block Cam Info - Magnum Head Swap

Anyway to make that spreadsheet live? I'm working on it now, trying to figure out a way to share it easily. The Hughes is quite a bit fatter lobe than most of the rest but i have no idea what it is at .006 if anyone has measured it post up- use only on stock low compression builds That's...

Speaking of Springs for Magnum Heads and Hyd cams.....

That sounds like it would be a solid option. I definitely don't know enough to say what will work or won't work. I'll be following this thread to see what comes of it. My plan was to just go snag some off of a GM 3100 currently but if there's a sub $100 option I would nix the 3100 springs and...

Speaking of Springs for Magnum Heads and Hyd cams.....

That number is based on an installed height of 1.7" and the factory magnum installed height is 1.64" I believe. Looks like the actual coil bind height for that spring is 1.15" based on trick flows chart. I could be wrong but with 0.06 that only gives you 0.43" of lift max. I've been doing...

Small Block Cam Info - Magnum Head Swap

Thanks! I'm setting my expectations low so I'm not disappointed, it is such a dog right now. Used this graph to compare the cam's once I picked a few that worked, it was pretty interesting to visually see the lobe separation, duration and when the valves open and close for the different...
