    Bushing sleeve

Is this on both sides or just driver side? I just replaced my LCA bushes on my B Body and on the driver's side when the LCA is at full droop as I tightened the LCA nut (not torquing it, just tightening it loosely to seat the pin in the K frame), a small part of the LCA hit the K frame, and when...

Poll for Minimum Torque for a performance street Machine?

The poll needs to be in bigger increments, say 300 lbs/ft, 350, 400 etc. Who here can feel the difference between 320 and 330 lbs/ft? If it's your car maybe, but in general terms? No one. My vote is enough torque to make the car feel light, however much it weighs. To have that push in the...

How tight to set solid lifters

Yeah but this table is the same advice I followed for iron/iron and set mine cold at .016 (the hot setting is .014). I checked them hot after reading all this debate and they were at .018... I then did them all again at .012. I didn't mind as I actually learned something - that real life...

How tight to set solid lifters

Doesn't use any coolant. Rings shouldn't be worn, new stroker build 14 months ago. I went to a 6 plug because of the 10.8 compression ratio, which is prone to detonation.

How tight to set solid lifters

Well I finally checked the hot lash this afternoon and Newbomb Turk is correct - there is slightly more lash hot than cold on my iron block, iron heads engine. I set them .016" cold thinking I'd get to 0.014" hot, but they are at .018. Now I have to fix them all, I'll set them to .012. Another...

How tight to set solid lifters

I'm not arguing either, I'm asking because I don't know. Until a few weeks ago I'd never adjusted the valve lash on any car. I only used the EOIC method because that seemed to make sense and there was a few tutorials online how to do it. Your method seems to be the same as what I followed...

How tight to set solid lifters

I thought the EOIC method WAS making sure the lifter was on the base circle? That's the method I used, going from No. 1 cylinder, around the engine as per the firing order. Slowly, methodically, one rocker and valve at a time in order. What is the difference to that in the method you used?

How tight to set solid lifters

Yes as per post #13. I used blue loctite on the loose one. I just finished re-checking the cold setting. They are still at .016" and the loose one has stayed at .016" which is good. I'm not looking forward to checking the hot measurement at all. Apart from the heat issue, if they have loosened...

How tight to set solid lifters

I've got stainless steel valves in my poly - that was another reason why I went looser. I'd read .02" for the stainless. And I am going to do what you outlined in post #12 - I'm going to doublecheck the cold right now, and then hopefully do the hot check tomorrow.

How tight to set solid lifters

This was one of the articles I read that lead me to setting them a tad wider: “What I Learned Today” With Jeff Smith — Cold Lash Vs. Hot Lash From the article: Thermal Expansion Table Because the engine dimensions will change with the heat of operating temperature, Crane Cams came up with a...

How tight to set solid lifters

Well I'm confused. I did this job on my poly 2 weeks back. The lash adjusters don't have a lock nut, they are an interference fit and one was loose. I pulled the valve cover due to the ticking noise and discovered it backed right off, so I thought I'd check them all. First time I've ever done it...

I never even bother to respond if: a) Someone else has already given the correct answer b) I haven't actually experienced the issue myself

Hello from SW WI, my name is Galen Govier and I just signed up to this site.

Welcome aboard Galen. On my first trip across the USA in 1996 I bought an Old Car Trader magazine and started searching for a muscle car. I was only just out of college and had no money really. I kept seeing your name in the adverts for the better cars, didn't really know what it meant, but it...

    Rookie Mistake...

I would dick around with the paperwork/lawyers AFTER you get your car back. Any work he may do from this point will be half-hearted anyway after your falling out. GET YOUR CAR BACK, worry about the rest later.

    What Carb for Poly Stroker

I checked the accelerator pump and it works, even squirt both sides. Haven't done the other test yet, will report back when I get there. More street driving impressions, car feels slightly stronger in full throttle applications but weaker than the Holley in general loafing around. Not what I was...

    What Carb for Poly Stroker

Well I've been driving for 2 days now with the new carb and I'm happy with it but surprised as well. I was expecting great low speed, part throttle response with the smaller primaries, but it's no different to the Holley. However, give it the full beans and it's definitely got more torque. On...

    What Carb for Poly Stroker

I installed the carb this morning. It started and ran nicely but only got to take it up the street and back before a huge summer storm hit. I'll take it out in the morning for a proper run and make any adjustments I need to. Next week I want to get some aluminium fuel line to replace the long...

Best method of making dual scoops functional?

Mine are just open to the engine bay, not ducted to the air cleaner. Probably doesn't do much but doesn't hurt either and lets hot air out in traffic too.

    What Carb for Poly Stroker

Ok thanks everyone. I must have been lucky as the metering rods are perfectly straight. Hopefully the spacer arrives today and I can install it, but of course I'm overwhelmed with work this week so might not have the time, and the weekend is chockers as well, just typical.

    What Carb for Poly Stroker

Hmm bit late now... There's no mention of removing them in the instructions. I was careful when I put the top back on to make sure they didn't foul on anything and the top went on with no resistance so might be ok? Do you think I should remove the top again and check if they are bent?

    What Carb for Poly Stroker

So I set the floats and locked off the choke by putting a thick washer onto the shaft where it pivots and tightening it down. The floats were way off from what the manual specs are. There are 2 settings. First you have to set them with the top of the carb upside down. I set them at 7/16". Then...

I thought that was the fitting on the front of the carb? It's on the back on the Holleys.

    What Carb for Poly Stroker

Do you mean the top hole? Also what's this hole? Do I need to plug.it? Finally the choke. I bought the manual choke version because I don't need it where I live. Should I wire this one open or remove the flap altogether?

    What Carb for Poly Stroker

Yes it will bolt up but I bought this Edelbrock spacer after watching a video on Youtube of some guy reviewing the AVS2 who reckons it's a must to avoid heat related issues (vapor lock etc) due the aluminum construction. The spacer is due to arrive Monday. I thought about putting the carb on...

    What Carb for Poly Stroker

Well the carburetor arrived, but I need the wooden Edelbrock spacer to get here before I put in on. That should be here Monday. First impressions: smaller and lighter than the Holley 1850 600, and way lighter than the 700 double pumper. Seems a quality piece, MADE IN THE USA is reassuring...

    What Carb for Poly Stroker

I ordered a 650 AVS2 yesterday morning - should be here in a few days. I've been reading about the fuel pressure needing to be between 4.5 & 6 psi. I have no idea what my factory style mechanical pump puts out. I might try it and see how it runs before I buy a regulator. I also have to buy (or I...

    What Carb for Poly Stroker

That's great info Geoff and thanks but are we really comparing apples for apples here? These differences were solely due to the carburetors that the cars were running? Different cars, different engines. The relevance to "losing tune after hard use" doesn't apply either. They didn't have an...
