    Deck and Squared

Not very often (never!) That I can offer any insight. I put KB167's in my 318. Six of the deck heights came out at zero and two were a couple of thou down. I called that good. I would do the mock assembly and hope you are as lucky as I was.

    318LA Myth's still being created!

I'm in the UK, my 1968 318 has a forged crank. I didn't seek it out, it was a chance purchase off a forum.

Hi, They are stock 318 heads, can't remember the number as it's late and I've been drinking lol. It's just a quick-ish street motor. Cheers Paul in Northamptonshire

318 head porting for the average joe

    Thanks polyjohn.

    How's my port!

Thanks YR. I've done a few heads over the years but the gap in-between is usually a long time. The last set were a pair of d0ve Ford heads for a 460 about 15 years back! I used burrs on the 318 heads, as you say practice is key. I have an air die grinder so speed control is easy. Getting used to...

Here's a quick photo I took this morning. As I said I don't claim to be good at this.

318 head porting for the average joe

I'm not sure what to take from that. I haven't changed the port design. This is very much a take on the thread OP's postings i.e. open the bowl and knock off the rough edges. I have not touched the SSR other than to blend the rough transition to the seat. The port is stock from the guide out to...

    How's my port!

OK. It will be tomorrow now, it's 5 in the evening here, I'm finished for the day (retired so time is mine to do as I please:icon_fU:)

    How's my port!

They are 675's. What would you like pics of? They are not the prettiest examples of porting, I don't claim to be any good at this! Probably be tomorrow now.

    How's my port!

I did my first exhaust port. I cut the bump down as far as I dare, it's just a very slight rise now. Bowl is opened up and all edges blended in. The black area in the photo is a divot in the casting. After not finding water (hurray!) I completed all the ports.

    How's my port!

Thanks rumblefish. I can't seem to find a definitive statement on the exhaust port bump so I will be cautious. Plan is to smooth it out and call it good. The bowl shown is opened up to 89% of valve size give or take a tad.

    How's my port!

Thanks guys, appreciate the feedback. I didn't go too mad. The short turn is untouched apart from blending in the ridge in the bowl and the pushrod hump is likewise untouched.

    How's my port!

I thought I would make a start on porting my heads loosely following the sticky guide. This is my first port (on a 318) so any comments/feedback would be welcome. One question regarding the exhaust port. Can I remove the hump on the roof completely or do I risk water? No more photos at the...

    Why you should always check...

I'm in the UK so there is a premium, but yes, still cheap. As I'm retired I have plenty of time to mess about and be a cheap ***. RRR there's nothing else wrong, I've been through the block, all good now including KB pistons instead of the "where are they down the hole" rebuilders that were in...

    Why you should always check...

It also had a new Howards cam with 4 new and 12 old lifters! The oil pick up was idle curiosity but it was so easy to dismantle that I cleaned it in my hot ultrasonic bath and rebuilt it.

    Why you should always check...

My 318 was bought as a rebuilt engine. It had all the machining done and had some good parts with it. However, I always check unknown work and always intended to strip and go through it. The first clue was the 1/8" wear ring on the oil pump shaft and a poor attention to cleanliness. Today I...

    318 cam query

I have power brakes but they use an electric vacuum pump so no issues there. I like the sound of "something a bit more stout"! This is my first Mopar so I'm a bit wary of the warnings about over camming 318's.

    318 cam query

Sorry wasn't clear, it was built but never ran, the cam is as new. It's a Humber Hawk, the rear is a 10 bolt. Pistons are now KB 167's. Engine is a 68.

    318 cam query

Dangerous territory I know but I would appreciate some feedback on a cam. It's a Howards Streetforce 2 which came with my 318 when I got it (installed with old and battered lifters!). Because it was a sort of bonus when I stripped the engine I'm not bothered whether I use it or not so be honest...

    Piston question

Mopar Sam, I'm building a 318 powered Humber Hawk, an early 60's English car. Not an A body but this site is a great resource for LA motors and associated parts.

    Piston question

I registered a while back but haven't posted on here (apart from an intro) but I would like to say thanks for that idea. I made a jig up like Mopar Sam's and it made filing my KB rings a pleasure! Thanks Mopar Sam:thankyou:

    Some junk in the UK

904, rebuilt with Alto red clutch packs, kolene steels and a Transgo stage 2 kit. Converter is undecided as yet, I have 2 but both had not been stored correctly before I acquired them in with the engine and box. I wouldn't trust them not to trash my box.

    Some junk in the UK

3000lbs, not exactly a lightweight. It actually goes well with the 215 but more engine can't harm:steering:

    Some junk in the UK

Kursplat, that is so close. This is mine. It currently has a Rover (Buick) 215 and 5 speed but I'm no fan of the 215. The chance of a 318 and 904 came up so I grabbed it. The factory built 6 prototype V8 Hawks in the 60's using 318 polys and 273 Commandos so I'm just continuing their good work.
