[SOLD] 1972 340 Duster for sale - 5 speed, Sniper, Wilwoods, etc

I decided that I would rather have a nicer daily driver than a 50 year old car that I drive once a week so the Duster must go. It's currently at a consignment dealer in Charlotte NC but I can get the car back in mid February and sell it myself. The dealer is asking $52k for the car. I've got...

Hope you can stand another "compression test results" thread

The engine hasn't been putting out the power that I think it should. Also I got some "pull back" into the exhaust pipe at idle so this leads me to think I've got some sticky or burned valves. Before I put the plugs back in and run some seafoam through the engine, what are your thoughts on...

silly question but which of these fuses "might" belong to the fuel pump

I want to do a compression test on my engine but I need to disable the electric fuel pump first. Without removing the fuses one at a time, does anyone have an idea of which of these might go to the fuel pump? I know, it shouldn't take me more than five minutes to find the right one, but I...

How much "shake" at idle is acceptable?

My 340 seems like it's shaking a bit more lately. You'll really see it about 15-20 seconds in. Street/strip cam (don't have all the specs except it has 490/490 lift, 262 duration. Manual transmission.

Thoughts on this noise from new clutch?

Recently installed McLeod clutch started making a creaking/popping sound. The shop that installed it said they can't figure out what's going on so I thought one you guys might have a clue.

    [FOR SALE] 72' Duster

After much consideration I've decided that what I want is a really nice daily driver instead of a muscle car that gets driven a few times a week at most. So my Duster is going up for sale (along with my 2017 Genesis G-80 if anyone cares) I just got the car back out of the shop after a dyno...

    New true-trac differential whine

I got my car back from the shop that replaced the rear end with all new components including axles. There is a "whine" that happens on light acceleration and goes away when off the throttle. I've followed the break in procedures and have about 200 miles on the car since the install. The break...

    Holley Sniper progressive linkage stumble?

I'm trying to see if this is just my imagination or do I have a part throttle stumble? My car was recently retuned because I added the progressive linkage. The secondaries don't open until after 2000 rpm as you can hear in the video. My issue is that the engine isn't as smooth as I would like...

Front suspension suggestions for better tracking

Once again I turn to the wisdom of you guys with years of experience. I finally have my car *almost* the way I want it. I swapped out the auto for a Tremec TKX 5 speed, I have a new rear end with a powr-lock differential and Hotchkiss subframe connectors. Previously, I had added Borgeson...

Give me some ideas for the dash panel

Curently, on my car, the area outlined in red is painted....at not all that well. Looks like whoever did the job left some runs and drips. I could sand it down and repaint it but I'm also looking for other ideas. I'd really like to cover it with some sort of vinyl fabric (similar to leather)...

    Welding torque boxes question

I have a set of torque boxes I want to have welded to my already finished car. Can this be done with the car on a lift, i.e. the suspension is unsprung, or does the car have to have the suspension loaded during installation? Thanks

My Duster is under the knife....TKX going in

The shop that's doing the install sent me a few pics. I'm looking forward to being able to row the gears! I never liked the 727 transmission.

Who here is good at reading spark plugs?

I pulled one of my plugs just to take a look after putting about 900 miles on my car with a Holley Sniper and Hyperspark distribuitor. My intial thoughts are that I have a touch too much timing but otherwise I think it looks pretty good.

Thoughts on how to fix a depression in the roof

This isn't an "ordinary" dent. I have a round spot on the roof of my Duster that has settled about 1/4". The spot is about 2' in diameter. I suspect that whoever built the car used a lot of bondo there and it's pulling away from the skin. I ran a magnet over the depression and found no...

    Lowering kits options

I'd like to lower my ride by 1" or maybe 1.5". I've seen options ranging from flipping the mounting brackets, lowering blocks or complete kits including springs. I don't race the car so I'm not looking for the best option for traction. I just think my car would look better lowered a bit. I...

What causes my driveshaft to "jump" in this video?

I'm trying to track down a "whining" noise I can hear when driving. I put the car on jack stands, lifted the differential, and ran the car up to about 40mph, trying to see if I can recreate the noise. I didn't hear the whining sound, but my driveshaft jumps at the :37 mark. Thoughts?

[FOR SALE] Torqueflight 727 coming soon

I'm swapping out my 3 speed auto for a Tremec TKX 5 speed. The parts have been ordered but it looks like I'm still a month or so away from having the car in the shop for the swap. In the meantime, I'd like to see if there is any interst in the 727 that's currently in my car now. I figured...

    Do cylinders 1 & 2 on a 340 usually run a bit cooler?

I finally bought myself a laser temperture meter. I shot the headers on the car while it was ideling and found that my # 1 & 2 cylinders are showing temps about 80 degrees cooler than the others. I realize that they are closer to the coolent intake so maybe that's why they might be a bit...

My motor runs cool....maybe too cool?

My temp gauge (brand new autometer) indicates that my engine rarely gets above 150. Only on the hottest days does my motor show a temperature of 180 or higher. I'm guessing I should look to replace the thermostat?

    retorque heads to solve issue?

I noticed some "soot" buildup on the front of the block, just below the aluminum heads. The heads overhang about 1" over the front of the block. I'm wondering if I need to retorque the heads or just go ahead and change out the gaskets. This is a fresh engine with around 800 miles or so. 340...

Can you pop out a dent that has been repaired with bondo?

The top of my car has developed a dent in the top, almost like someone dropped a bowling ball on it. I ran a magnet across the skin and it's apparent that it's been repaired in the past with Bondo. I have no idea how it happened but I suspect that the bondo may have "sunk", if that's...
